- Both forms of the final boss of Live a Live, Odio and Pure Odio. I admit the second part could've been better, if Oboro was in Pogo's place and Akira was in Cube's place. Although Cube is a better healer overall, Akira has better skills.

half-way through this fight I realised the background you were fighting on was made up from the bodies of all the people from the second last chapter. Damn dude, he certainly got his revenge on those people.

Looks a lot more clear in the remake that the battle is fought on a floor of bodies.
IS GETTING A REMAKE WITH VOICE ACTING AND WORLDWIDE RELEASE!
They all have problems through their different periods. Especially the final character you play as. In fact he got through so much shit that he basically sold his soul to the devil and became the demon Odio. He used his new power to go into the others periods and possibly kill your other characters. Or he will bring them all in his period to show them true despair.
You play as one of the character and you can meet up the others and ask them to join you.

Yeah, I literally had this exact party except for Masaru instead of Pogo.

What a tragedy that this lost nugget, Live A Live was never given a chance here in the United States.
This was 1 of Square's most creative RPG's ever made, but unfortunately only those fortunate few who have the emulated version of this game can appreciate it.

toby fox claimed to have taken influence from the regular boss theme in this game for Sans' boss theme in Undertale however I also think he may have taken influence from this boss fight for Omega Flowey. Both start off similarly and just look real fucking creepy.
Man I completely agree. When I saw Omega Flowey I instantly thought of this too.

They are the same person, Odio is what Oersted became after he went through of the bullshit that happened to him during his chapter.

The whole game has a very power story and characters. It rivals with my favourite FF, which is FF6.
Many people do question why this never got released outside Japan. I think due to the content.
It's a VERY good game. Even my chapter has feels.
And this is why NTR is bad.

@@asazr5987 NTR means Netorare, which is basically means cheating or stealing your girlfriend (or boyfriend, thought that is considered Netori) 's love by someone else; this relates to Oersted since he loved Princess Alicia but then Straybow (His "best" friend) came and not only he stole Princess Alicia's love from Oersted (By making some huge-assed lies that he is the "real" hero) but also ruining Oersted's reputation by making him go kill unintentionally the king so everyone can hate him (Except that kid who still loves him) because they think that he is the demon .Plus, after Oersted killed Straybow for self-defence (Remember that Straybow wanted Oersted dead so he can stay Princess Alicia and so overcome it.), Princess Alicia came out and said something like: "OH NO, YOU KILLED MY REAL HERO, YOU BASTARD! I WILL KILL MYSELF SO I CAN STAY WITH HIM FOREVER!!"....And so, that how Oersted lost faith in everyone else, and so he became the new Demon King.
In other words, Straybow is nothing but an egoistical idiot that he is responsible for all the events that happened in the game.
I believe it's being referred to as a "cuck" in today's vernacular.
NTR is the act, "cuck" is the victim.

Yes, it's meant to be Saint Alicia. It was meant to partially imply that even as Odio, Oersted loved her. He revered her and didn't hold her to blame for her behaviour. She had been seduced by Straybow after all.
If you use Akira, you can hear the thoughts of characters towards the end, and can find Straybow and Alicia in spirit form. Clicking on him, Straybow will admit that it was solely his fault (thanks to his jealousy) that things are as they are.
6:07 They did this justice in the remake
For some reason, I like Lei. Her stats are pretty well balanced, and most of her attacks do not take charge time, but they are still powerful nonetheless. I mainly picked her as an inheriter not only because she was female, but I also liked her personality and how well she did in combat before.
If you see it. She quite resemble Aerith from FF VII

I always choose Oboro as leader, he's the strongest character in my opinion along Lei. But Oersted is the best so far.

This video is oddly enough a fun glimpse into the past, regarding both fan translations and emulation.
Saint Alethea seriously sounded like that on ZSNES? And it was translated as _Scent Alicia?_
Funnily enough, even though I played the more updated fan-translation, this _is_ the first time I'm hearing that awkward "WOOOOO!!" scream. The version I heard was a lot more...bloodcurdling
Pogo's chapter might be the only chapter which you can beat without translations due to the "caveman speech bubble talk"

scent alicia killed my characters
Everyone's ULTIMATE team always has Sunset. Because of his Hurricane Shot, he can dominate Odio, Lei's speed makes her Squirrel Kick do some serious damage. And Oboro's cool too, if he wouldn't have missed everytime during my boss fight :(
It's easy to believe that this could be like the Beta or Prototype for Chrono Trigger
And ff 7. Have many things of cyberpunk, ninja, martial Arts, aliens and a mad fallen hero
I did this with a level 16 Akira, solo. No Ariel armor either because I'm insane. I basically just yeeted half of my inventory at the dude and save scummed

This Battle is actually really easy. If you have the Sun Shan Quan Pupil use Xuan Ya Lian Shan Quan, let Cube or Akira heal, Sundown use the second strongest Attack, Pogo or Masaru Attack and Oboro uses Bronze Leaf.
I can see why this final boss's name is Odio- "Odio" is the Italian word for "hate".
Jeremy M is also Spanish for the same.

Yes. It's deliberate. Oersted gave into his hatred... hence Odio (Latin for Hate)

@SunsetKlD Except Cube is a robot and therefore doesn't level up.
A certain being, which is the embodiment of hate (thus, "odio", which means "hate" in Latin and Portuguese) sees their final battles on their respective chapters, and calls them to his time period (which is an amalgam of all time periods) so he can show them that hate will prevail in the end. The being they're fighting in the end is the pure embodiment of hate, thus "Pure Odio".
It's a lot more complicated than that, even more when you discover who the being is.
"Odio" is "Hatred" or the first person singular form of the verb "to hate" in italian as well

this game is cool, i like cube's story for some reason it was like a movie, all of the stories were like a movie lol.
So in the remake, when you defeat Purity, the field doesn’t disintegrate like what's shown here.
I mean, it probably was a bit too difficult to animate, but imagine if it still did that in the remake.
Pogo's Dodege also deals 999.

+Mr K There's no shame in looking up a guide for this one, if the game has one major downside it's that the game can be pretty un-explanitary with its secrets to the point of being obtuse.
The Greater Ark Maybe they were powered by a god or because after all, Odio came from a human.
Or, if you're lazy, use cheats!
My party was Sunset,Cube,Pogo and Oboro. Even though Cube and Oboro died during the boss fight, Odio went down in 2 minutes :D
I wonder if the uploader for this ever thought this game would get a remake.
Yet, I played with Yuan Jou, due to his stats and the fact i identify myself with him, sunset as leader, hence he is a pain in the neck to take him along, Oboro, and pogo.

indeed it is a freaky attack, but it has a bit of a deeper meaning to it, which I'm sure you would probably know if you played the game or read a synopsis somewhere.

This guy was tough to beat. I wouldn't have done it without Hurricane Shot.
I scared odio's Saint alicia attack. That's Image and sound effects.. so CREEEPYYYY
And in this version, the sound is altered. The other one still gives me chills today (why the sound is so different here btw? is it the hack's cause?)

Not to mention the meaning behind it, it symbolizes that defining moment when Alicia, who he thought was the one who still believed in him and could save him, instead destroyed that last glimmer of hope he had left and caused him to fall into complete despair. This is how he sees her now, and now he's inflicting that same horrible despair on the party.

I know this is a really old comment, but I do enjoy giving information on things.
The sound's so different here because it's probably being emulated. Emulators have a really hard time properly mimicking the sound effects for Saint Alicia. You can hear the sound effect coming out a couple different ways during the video.

I started playing recently, lost for the second time in Oboro's story (first time was in Masaru's story), and now I'm midway through Pogo's.
Cube's story was the most satisfying so far, for some reason.
@peacocktheking in the cavemans level one of the bosses attacks you by throwing his leaf thing at your revealing his man pole and he's constantly flipping you off in battle, yes that is just a few of the reasons lol all i read square didnt wanna touch all the racial stereo-types.

Because Square is milking Final Fantasy for all it's worth; they care more about that "core" demographic of FF7 and beyond because it nets them money.

Cube can be leveled? But cube can't gain any levels. You can upgrade him, but you can't level him. Otherwise Odio would be a tad too easy :P
