    Thanks Tim for all the effort you put into this. That was the missing piece of the puzzle.
    That Komodo sensor definitely holds up so well and iso 1600 looks good. I think its pretty even with the p6k to 3200. Which I now use for doc style projects with natural lighting envolved.
    The colorshift towards green is there but that matches the helium perfectly and makes grading the two together much easier.
    Helium for these detailed monstrous Shots and Komodo for the action on that new Ronin RS2. What a killer combo 🔥🔴

    Hi Tim,
    Can you please do a comparison between the ked komodo x VS the red gemini. Maybe include Sony fx6 as well. Thanks

      in LL? no camera is holding up against gemini in LL

      @@morucek Sony Venice? I think if you have a bit of control, like on a normal shoot, Mostro and Helium would be better due to the pixel density. the Noize is so small in 8K

      @@morucek Based on this review. For the price of a Komodo vs a Gemini, the Komodo does a hell of a job.

    Any chance of getting a less compressed version? I'm watching the 4K and it feels like RUclips is just using all the bandwidth to render the Gemini Standard noise because it is more contrasty, the noise in the other cameras is not well represented because it looks like a fixed image that and blurred and removed by the heavy youtube compression. I'm literally trying to look at the Komodo noise and it looks like a stuttery still image with the noisy parts blurred out most of the time because it is not even trying to render the noise due to lack of bitrate to dedicate to it.

    Komodo is soooo goood! clean and detailed. nice grain period. color is well balanced as well.

  • @SOMEONE-ME
    @SOMEONE-ME 4 года назад +2

    Problem is that shadows are so crushed in Komodo compared to other cameras. Noise is there for Komodo as well, but just crushed to black, so it's less "visible".

    I still can't get over how bad most REDs color shift. It's crazy bad. Green for days!

      It's pretty extreme, but no cine camera is meant to be used above 3200 ISO; even 1600 is pushing it. There are much better choices for low-light shooting.

    Were you using the same lens on all of the cameras? In your 300% crop, the Gemini is MUCH sharper than the other two. Is there a reason for this?

    Thanks for the test!
    It seems the komodo shifts to green a bit at high iso. You can see it clearly at 1:40-1:44 moving to 3200 and 6400 and above. I don't see the same shift on the other sensors. Am I crazy? If you see it too what do you think that is? Regardless, impressive performance

      Definitely more on the green side and matching Helium than on the Magenta side of Gemini

  • @chrisphillipsmedia1

    Tim, it almost looks like the Komodo noise levels looks almost ( as the Gemini at the higher ISO's just with less shadow dynamic range and detail. What do you all think? I was thinking about getting Gemini because of the cleaner low light images, but this test makes me have pause. However, I need the higher frame rates, so that still may make me stick with a Gemini.

    somehow it seems to me that the gemini has here in STD more noise than the helium. but in PART 2 - ISO noise it seemed that the noise of the gemini was finer than helium. how is that possible? or maybe i am wrong?

    It does strike me that Komodo with a speedbooster could be the best low light RED ever.

    • @jonravid3234
      @jonravid3234 4 года назад +4

      you know there is a speed booster mount for the Gemini making it FF as well right? Gemini is still the low light king.

    • @noahyv
      @noahyv 4 года назад

      @@jonravid3234 yes but the ABT Speedmount alone costs more than half of a komodo body and only works in 4k on gemini... I am a gemini owner and have considered it but it just doesn't make any sense and doesn't necessarily seem like it would be much better than komodo+speedbooster. Gemini LL in my experience is only about 1stop more sensitive than gemini STD anyway. Komodo seems it may sit between the two both for DR and sensitivity so the 1stop sensitivity boost would probably put it just ahead of gemini LL for both.

    • @jonravid3234
      @jonravid3234 4 года назад +2

      Noah YV maybe you should watch the video again with a calibrated screen buddy. The Gemini is usable in 12,800 with noise reduced while all the other cameras are already too noisy. Also the Gemini clearly have more dynamic range than The Komodo , both in highlights and shadows. Low light mode gives you 2 more stops not one, it’s well explained by red .

    • @noahyv
      @noahyv 4 года назад

      @@jonravid3234 no, LL mode only gives you 2 stops less highlights, and that is how the LL base ISO of 3200 is arrived at so that it matches the response curve of ISO800 STD. Measuring shadows noise is much more complicated and depends where visible noise falls throughout the response curve and how and where a particular person or scene is sensitive to it.
