      Awesome! I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's getting into lots of new hands, so if you run into any issues be sure to let me know over on GitHub. Thanks for trying it out!

    Great stuff!!! I'm assuming there's another USB connection to the HF rig that wasn't shown at the beginning?

      Same USB connected Digirig, just swapped the cable from the FT-2980 to the IC-718. Done!

    Hey very well thought out and presented video. Thank you so much!
    Any chance for ArcOS can be used on a Raspberry Pi 4b, and if so, is there any remote chance that you would consider incorporating AllStarLink as one of the modules? Not sure if AllStarLink is compatable with your version of the linux kernel or not as I am as green as they get with regards to AllStar, but I am here because I am searching for an easier/gentler way to get an AllStarLink node up and running with my DigiRig mobile.

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  3 месяца назад

      @@opposedforces Thanks! I don't have any plans to support any architectures beyond x86_64. That means the Pi is out. As far as AllStar goes, I've not got any familiarity with it. If someone familiar wants to put together a module, I'm happy to help with any trouble shooting. I just don't want to shift my focus away from the core inclusions.

    Any plans to offer Raspberry Pi support? Or this is strictly going to be Intel?

    Couple of questions:
    1.) is the digirig absolutely necessary if there is a sound card included with your radio (I.e. QRP Labs QMX or the Icom IC-7100)?
    2.) Could I boot this to a surface pro tablet and still have functionality of the keyboard or touch screen?
    I love this idea. Just wish there was a way to get vara to work

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  2 месяца назад

      Is a Digirig necessary? Yes, for things to work out of the box, a Digirig is required. However, there is nothing preventing users from configuring the applications to use a different interface, then saving the configs for future boots. Currently, Direwolf and ARDOP do not have built-in "save" scripts. So, the user would need to write that tooling.
      Will it work on a Surface Pro tablet? I don't know. I don't have one. Since it is a live OS, you can create a USB and test it to see if it functions as desired.
      Thanks for checking it out!
      As for VARA...my stance has not changed. VARA is not open-source, nor is it an open standard. I'd encourage anyone interested in running VARA as a mode of Amateur Radio communication to reach out to the developer and pressure him to release the source code (at least for the "free" speed tier).

    This is great. Is the actual os open source or just the modules?

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  2 месяца назад +1

      @@daviesgeek Thanks! That's a bit of a nuanced question. Yes, the whole thing (OS and modules) is open source. I don't have any current plans to publish the build pipeline/tooling. The "magic" place to look is in /opt/arcOS. Pretty much everything that makes it tick is found there.

    • @daviesgeek
      @daviesgeek 2 месяца назад

      @@KG4VDK ahh yeah I guess the better way to phrase the question was exactly what you said: “build pipeline/tooling”.
      I haven’t downloaded it yet, but when I do, I’ll look in that folder. Not to say anything sketchy at all is happening in the build process, I just like it more when that’s also open source. Helps to find issues and provides more transparency to the community at large.
      Thanks though, I’m going to try getting this running soon!

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  2 месяца назад +1

      @@daviesgeek I certainly understand that perspective. I can promise I'm not doing anything weird all day long, but that may not mean much. I took the same approach as Debian, Ubuntu, and Mint..."Here's the ISO, feel free to inspect it." If, as this project evolves, folks need/ask for more insight, my stance might change. But, for now, I'm not going to release the build steps. It just invites to many problems where someone builds an offshoot that I'm then expected to support.
      I welcome any further discussion on this, though.

    I've been playing with arcOS for a day or so and it is pretty awesome. I'm looking forward to incorporating into my shack setup. The only problem I'm having (so far) is with YAAC. When I download the pre-imported tiles it seems to be working, but the progress bar stops at 77% and the D/L window disappears. Nothing changes in the YAAC window. I am using a new 64 GB USB drive for the OS. Am I missing something??

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  2 месяца назад

      Does this failure to download happen reproducibly? How many tiles are you trying to download (radius specified in YAAC)?

    • @tracy3350
      @tracy3350 2 месяца назад

      @@KG4VDK Thank you for responding. I first loaded arcOS on an 8GB thumb drive. It ran, but it was not ideal. I thought the small capacity might be the problem. So, I now have the OS on a 64GB drive. I still have the same issue. I'm trying to download using the 100Km radius setting.

    • @KG4VDK
      @KG4VDK  2 месяца назад

      @@tracy3350 I have a hunch that it did work. I just tested by deleting my offline-maps, and following your steps.
      I selected 100km radius, and the download started. It moved in 11% percent chunks, until 77%. The download window closed. The download was actually completed. To make the downloaded tiles visible, the "viewport" of YAAC needs to be refreshed. You can force this to happen by clicking the "Home" icon in the top bar of YAAC, or by using the zoom-in/zoom-out buttons.
      Let me know if this helps.

      @@KG4VDK Well, I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work...UNTIL I changed the distance to 75Km, then it worked just fine. Not sure what the issue is, but for my needs, 75Km is fine. I have another question concerning iGate, but I will post that on your Gitub page. Thanks again!!

    I’m working on running it on a usb drive I just got. I am having issues getting persistent storage to save. I’ve hit ok for the reboot to create persistent storage but it just boots back to the same message. Any idea what could be going on? I even went into my boot order and made the usb the primary boot just to see if that would help.
