sorry,,this is just my own opinion.. traditional marital art ,back on the old days,, is not for recreation or sport or even business.. it's for defense and kill,, yes KILL,,and total outlaw,, although its has health benefits too. . MMA, JKD is base own TMA too.. IN my country, if you kill someone with bare hand even for self defense,,you will end up in jail..and authority don't care weather you're MMA or TMA expert..
I understand the safety issues. But in goju ryu.. you pay money ( big ) to train for surviving real life encounter. The muscle memory when your heart is pumping adrenaline is essential. So the nuts are squeeze.
That's actually his son so it's a special circumstance. I don't think that's something he'd demonstrate with anyone, but Okinawan Goju Ryu is friggin deadly, they train to control, knockout, maim or kill, and it's about bringing power to the vulnerable parts of the body, precisely and with conviction.
How does the Okinawan arts differ from their source material (mainland Chinese arts)? What techniques or training practices were innovated? My question is what is different in practicing Okinawan karate vs the Chinese White Crane it is said to come from?
What the heck is that dance "hemisphere balancing" dance thing that guy is doing at the end? It looks very interesting. Where can I find videos or books about this? Also I like that guys uniform better than the traditional gi. Looks more comfy and cooler
I never saw Lyoto Machida do any of this bullshito. I'm 45, fat and out of shape. I'd beat the crap out of this karate 'master'. Any random man you grab off the street would kick his ass.
+Scott Humphreys Yes, you did see Machida do all of this, along with Stephen Thompson and Gunnar Nelson. Butthurt MMA fanboys like you just can't stand getting debunked.
Scott Humphreys I play Wutan Kung Fu, i.e. Tang Long Quan, Chang Quan, and Baji Quan. I started in Shorin Ryu at age eight, I have never lost a fight in my life. I only fight to protect others and myself, I consider a push an attack, so me being a "pretty boy", I got it a lot. I really hurt my school bullies, I broke one guys arm by a joint lock. I cut the others up bad on their faces. Then my mom's ex-boyfriend was cool for years, then started doing drugs and became an asshole, then he was verbally abusing my little sister, so I told him he has to leave. Well he came at me and he ended up getting lots of stitches on his face. Then he came back, said sorry, and did it again, the same thing again but this time he lost sight in one eye by cracking his retina. It does work if you play it for long hours each day. My two knuckles on each hand got real sharp from hitting bags and rope boards, they cut up their faces.
If you want to do the brutal stuff, you really need to do the real honjo undo. Not the fake stuff at the end, but makuwari with finger tips, one knuckle push-ups, sand box and lots of grip and forearm conditioning.
@@ch0wned especially in course sand, no cheating like Bruce Lee did on his finger pads but on the tips. Harden up the bones and tendon through compressive over-pressure. The secret sauce is deer musk. Super overload of testosterone into the local tissues for repair and growth. Musk is expensive so I use freeze dried bovine testi and caffeine soaked in Alcohol.
Karate is ancient mixed martial arts. Yes look like aikido, yes look like kung fu, yes look like muay thai, yes look like silat, yes look like judo etc. Okinawa was banned to carry a weapon, even king's guards have to guard a king without weapon, the only weaponless king guards in the world. Thus they have to learn empty hand fighting to survive with any daily tools. all nations in south and east asia influenced okinawan by trade, China, Thailaind, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines, etc including dance and music instruments too.
I don't think there is a better, they are different. Aikido developed out of ju-jitsu where the main emphasis is on defending against one opponent armed with a blade. All karate forms are based on defending against multiple opponents. This is why karate spends little or no time on the ground.
so the question is this. How many times will an attacker just grab you and wait for you to Pummel him or you threw a punch and or when he throws a punch will he just let it sit there so you can grab his arm and bludgeoned him?
Theses are just demonstrations ! AND its not all about fighting they are arts and for health , mind , body . why does everyone have to relate it to street or sport fighting . these people NEVER say they can fight anyone or are the best at this and that , they just train .
If the man grab you. You are in so deep trouble but he will attack soft tissue. Just look at his hands and you can till he is very dangerous. You should be more educated.
Todd Lindsey u don't need to grab the arm. Just like any animal who has strong grip, don't need to wait for arm to extend out to grab, just go in for neck, pull hair, twist head, grab the shoulder joints, dig ur fingers into the rib cages, etc...u would have to experience it to understand better how dangerous someone with strong grip n fingers is
Im gonna call bs on paralyzing someone by stepping on a toe in any way. Thats absolutely not real. Why would you go to the end of an electrical wire to halt it instead of the beginning.
Nerves are still nerves.. there is also a spot in your forearm that if pressed hard enough will send a shooting pain, if you're caught in a head lock. I'm sure a pressure point in your foot gets crushed and it'll stop you, or at the least temporarily destroy your balance.
Not really. Many of those are purposed to attack certain muscles on thighes. Tbh Higaonna isn't the type of guy who should even bother anymore. With his hands he can sink his fingers into litterally any muscle tissue. Well only if it's a really strong man with bodybuilder constitution, then he will have to chose a softer spot which wouldn't be a trouble for him.
Attacking a fat mans legs is like cutting down a tree, given enough time he will come crashing down. This art specifically teaches you how, when ,where to attack out of focus and instinct in harmony.
There are numerous techniques way better to show off than these impractical toe and finger pressure/break moves. I should know I'm a1st degree black belt in Goju Ryu
well ... you are looking at things through 21st century eyes. You have to remember that the "formation" into specific styles happened in early 20th century. They were preserving techniques of fighting from 19th, 18th, 18th and so on self-defense. You know, like when farmers were attacked by bandits on their way to market. When the chances of highway robbery was like 80%. Big caravans hired muscle just like armored trucks do today. This is why martial arts are just that - an "art". Now what I have also cried BS on is the whole certify through some empty-squat "our way the only way" organization. Many, if not most MMA fighters today got tired of that too.

This is a brilliant video. The "tea cup" conditioning is some of the best solo training.
Thank you.
nice coordination drills, I love the Okinawan arts.
what a badass -no-joke karate...I love it...

A big difference between MMA (and a lot of martial arts) - is that in MMA you're trying to win; not kill, maim, or paralyse someone.
Hmmmm... ok... how many people have you or your instructors killed?

Scott Humphreys really but I’m assuming BJJ isn’t?

Higoanna Sensei stands way ahead of the other two, the real deal. Donn Draeger called him the most dangerous man in Japan in a fight!
That stuff near the end is Kung Fu as heck! Circular, like Bagua.

The grappling and joint locks in Goju Ryu come from the Chin Na techniques in Kung Fu, specifically White Crane and Tai Chi.
