    I have been in the market for an outdoor security camera for a few weeks now. Your video could not have come at a better time. I do prefer the Eufy over the Ring. Such a difference in the picture and audio quality.

    Does Eufy has any plan to connect the camera to Base station? I have a base station 2 and I would like to have recording to the base station so as to prevent loss of footage in case the camera is stolen.

    This is close to a perfect camera. A wider field of view would be great but the combination of features is hard to beat. I would love the ability to have it integrate with the home base to avoid having to pull video from the camera itself when reviewing footage (potentially using even more battery power)

    Been researching security and doorbell cameras for a couple days now for the front of my house and garage but eufy definitely makes a strong case. Thanks for the informative reviews and side by side comparisons. Really helpful.

      What did you end up going with?
      Debating on getting 2-4 cameras. I need one for the front and back yard. Front of house faces north, south side gets back sun exposure. However, I live in MI and it gets -30F in the winter and no sun. I have outlets outside. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see. I'd prefer not drilling holes through my home or walls but ideally no batteries to change outside etc.

    I love your videos Steve. I’ve been trying to decide between the Arlo and Eufy cameras for my house and I think this new S40 just sealed the deal for me. The only knock is the lack of base station storage.

    About 7 years ago I bought a full camera system for my house. It was supposed to connect to the internet where I could see it from my iphone but I never got that feature to work. I bought the Ring door bell and loved it. I bought a Ring spotlight / camera and love it too. I have since removed the old camera system and need to add more Smart cameras.

    Can the eufy be charged with a cord when there's not adequate sunlight to charge it up? If so can it be plugged in for charging while the eufy camera is in use? Lived with ring doorbells had my own blink cams and now considering this camera for it's all in one features. Also can the eufy recordings be reviewed in the app or does the card have to be reviewed with another device?

    • @805bigchris
      @805bigchris 2 года назад +2

      To answer your first two questions, yes and yes. While charging my eufy camera, it was still capturing motion and live view was still able to be used. But the solar panel is well made. My camera has stayed at 100% even after putting the most power draining setting. Just make sure it gets some kind of direct sunlight

  • @ryanmilliron2061
    @ryanmilliron2061 3 года назад +1

    Steve DOES one thing you got to consider Ring has the ability to daisy chain with other ring spotlights and motion sensors to trigger the camera sooner as well as add more light, which Eufy does not have to my understanding. Stinks Ring is 1080, but PIR sensors are not the best with straight on motion so being able to set up a Motion Sensor out further than 30 feet or so, allows you to have better motion activation as well as the Wall Solar Motion Light to add mor light to the area.

    • @eitelify
      @eitelify 3 года назад +1

      @@shanew7361 I actually really like them. I like the crisp image quality (for a wireless camera) and notifications are great. In fact, I've set mine up to get the text with the thumbnail and every now and then when there's perhaps "prolonged" movement, I'd get the text notification first to alert me to the movement and then when the movement is done, I get the thumbnail. I'm looking to get the solar panels for them though because with them set on their highest setting for motion detection, the battery lasts ~ 1 month (in my case anyway). But my biggest gripe are the activity zones. I don't know why with these camera's they decided to use blocked zones.

    Awe, man... so many choices with the Eufy brand. I do like this camera, but, I also liked the Eufy 360 Floodlight Cam 2 Pro you recently reviewed.
    I do, however, like the fact that this SoloCam S40 has the built in spotlights and a solar panel. Of course, not having to hardwire this one is a big plus.

    I actually use two different camera systems as for my exterior cameras. I use two separate cameras for my interior cameras.
    For my exterior cameras, I first began with the Maximus cameras via the Kuna app. I have a porch light camera, dual camera doorbell, and a floodlight camera above my garage door. The second camera system are the Wyze cameras.
    For my interior cameras, I use SmartThings cameras and they are connected to the SmartThings hub mainly to be part of our home’s security system. A new camera that I’m about to get is the MyQ camera which will be placed somewhere in the garage and connected to the MyQ app to coincide with the MyQ garage door opener and Key by Amazon.
    I’m looking to possibly replace the Wyze cameras as the so called PIR sensors do not really capture motion nor person detection activity too well. I do give Wyze credit for being a introductory camera system that is affordable and a good starting point for the first time smart home device buyer.

    I have the Eufy S40 Solar camera and I am using it for a small 6 unit condo building thus heavier use than a single-family home. I did a test with the spotlight turned off and covered the solar panel. I was only able to get 4 weeks of use at full motion sensor settings (sensitivity and time recording when triggered), thus I won’t be placing these in the front yard where a lot of action happens. The motion detection leaves A LOT to be desired. I’m not even sure I can type out all the quirks, but let’s just say it’s not that great. It also (like all Eufy) has a long delay before it starts recording people. I’ve only had it for one month now, so there seems to be some other quirks with it, but overall it seems to be a decent camera for the Prime Day price of 130. I also don’t believe the IP68 rating as a lot of people in reviews have said they have gotten water inside which seems to be a trend with Eufy cameras. Overall, amazing features for the price, but I’m not willing to pay a lot more to get exactly what I need, spotlight and not having to worry about battery life. Also, the solar panel will not keep up with the camera even in full sun if you have settings set to the higher settings (you know the settings you want to have on). It has a lot of limits, you can add a solar panel which sorta defeats the purpose of an all in one. If anybody knows of a better camera setup even if it’s hardwired, let me know in a reply. One of the big selling features for me is the ability to change the color temperature. I personally find 5000k to be too blinding for outdoor and indoor cameras. I prefer the soft white 2700k. Like most LED lights on the market, they don’t really get soft white so I wasn’t expecting these to be soft white. These say they go down to 3000k, maybe they do, but just know you’re not getting soft white like you would with an incandescent bulb. I do love the option though to turn it down from 5000 to 3000k. I may still buy more during say Black Friday and just add a solar panel, but I think I’m going to go hard wired with my setup. For $130 or even retail $200, it’s a great value. But it feels very beta version to me and there are a lot of other quirks that I have noticed, but heck this is becoming a novel and I’m sure I have offended somebody by now. Ha :)

    If and when Eufy makes the current Solocam line of cameras compatible with the home base, do you think it will be a simple software update so cameras can connect to HomeBase or will there be a newer version of the cameras that will be sold later. If I go with a Eufy camera system I would rather have everything on the HomeBase then have multiple cameras connected to wifi.

    How much delay is there between the motion actually occuring and when you get the notification for motion detected on the S40? I already have an older wired NVR setup that came with my house that records 24/7 but I would like to have near instant notifications to my phone when motion is detected around my house, and I'm considering this camera for that since its low maintenance with the solar panel.

    Given the camera has a near continuous power source, can it do Prebuffer (look-ahead) like the Arlo's do when on mains power? Its the thing with the 2C I don't like is how slow recording is to start

    Great to see what the Eufy cameras look like they look awesome. I have a different brand of cameras they sure don’t look that good day or night. I have know way to change the setting on my cameras. Someday I will be replacing them when we have the extra money to do it. Eufy will be the one we will get to replace our old cameras.

    So if the storage is inside the camera, lets say intruder detects camera and destroys it. There's no way i can access the recording unless i have the cloud service?

    Love your videos Steve! Will you be doing a eufy L20 or a eufy outdoor cam review ?

    How would you say the video quality is between the s40 and the 2c pro in your testing do you think the s40 has a better sensor or about the same?

    Disappointed that the Eufy Solocam isn't able to connect to the home base. I really hope that is a future feature. Will be buying though and hopefully winning to add to my Eufy system.

    Does it have a slot for a memory card? What happens if the camera gets stolen? Do you loose all recordings?

    I watch a lot of different reviews but I have to say that yours are the best. Specific, understandable for older guys like me and unbiased. I have been a subscriber for awhile but just hit the notification bell. Thank you for doing these.

    Hey Steve! Great review! How likely do you think they will enable cloud storage purchase option or home base? I am just concerned if the camera is damage or stolen how you would be able to see the last event.

      This would have been a perfect camera if Eufy gave you 2 options right out of the gate (1) as a stand alone or with cloud option.

    I always enjoy your reviews and this is another very informative one. I’m considering an outdoor security camera and these two are at the top of my list. A question-once motion is recorded, can I replay the detected motion a few times or do I have to take the sd card out? Also, can two different people in the family have access to the live view recordings?

      I have the eufy solar. No need for a hub for that 1 camera, but once you get 2 or more cams, you will need a hub station. All my footage gets saved to my SD card in my phone via the app. Its so easy to use. I also have a front doorbell cam, so the setup was super simple. Highly recommend these cameras. ALSO. Yes you can send a link for a second person to have access to the cameras, as me and my wife can both see the cameras at the same time via the app.

    Great video quality and light. I wish it could connect to the base for storage/safety. What do you think about an option to record longer video (5 mins) while the battery is above, say 50%. I think Eufy is defiantly in the lead, but make the 2 changes I mentioned and I would replace all my Eufy cams. Thanks for the great review, now off to follow you and Instagram.

    Love the solar panel to keep the battery topped off. I have a Eufy Cam 2 in my driveway that I have to charge every 4 to 6 months and that camera is advertised to last up to 1 year of battery life.
