OFFICIAL: SSC TUATARA BREAKS WORLD RECORD

- Опубликовано: 26 янв 2021
- The SSC Tuatara is officially the world's fastest production car. With an average two-way speed of 282.9 mph over 2.3 miles, SSC broke the standing record of 278mph. This happened last week while testing at JBPG in Kennedy Space Center on SSC's quest to break 300 mph.

A billionaire needs to build a track with a massive straight for these cars to run on. Seems like it could be a money maker. Owners could fly in their cars and V max them. Nice work SSC
They can't just build a road out of nowhere, plus it's expensive and would require a specific area, its a long complex process, plus why would they need the little money car manufacturers would pay to use the road, they're billionaires!
Salt flats
@George Lynch Dixon That's the sad truth. Such a waste
@George Lynch Dixon Make some money, buy one, be the exception.
It's called autobahn, just fly it out to Germany

You know ... there is an other car coming ... we call it Bugatti bolide
@@Benjamin_CRISTINI wtf? The bolide😂😂😂😂

282 is VERY impressive. Congratulations on the new world record
Tons of respect for admitting to the mistakes of the previous 331 mph run
Of course it is. The horsepower and aerodynamical requirements to go 200+ MPH are obscene. The car would probably be good for 315 with a long enough tarmac
But I just can't get over that they intentionally attempted to swindle an outrageously absurd claim. It's so bizarre
*This car can easily do 300mph. Look at the acceleration when it stopped at 286mph.*
he started breaking at that point cuz the finish line was a few yards far
@@NBABY-J First record? Fake experts? What are you smoking? Even SSC North America said the first run was messed up, hence the need for a rerun even to begin with.
@@NBABY-J I dont know what "fake experts" you refer to so this is pointless . Legit issues with the first attempt were raised by some people and SSC confirmed that their results from that attempt didnt add up - hence the need for a new record attempt to begin with.
@@NBABY-J I havent said anything even close to that... I questioned your "fake experts" statement. The math by a few youtubers was rock solid, SSC confirmed. Their math also suggested that, given what is known about the car (drag/horsepower etc) would be able to go 300mph+.
@@NBABY-J You might wanna reread what I said. And how about you name these so called "fake experts" first of all? You could be referring to a cartoon or whatever at this point... At what point did anyone say that the car can not ever go faster than 230mph?
In 2.3 miles? They still need a bigger road.
Need to use that Fast 6 runway that was 50 miles long
Yeah obviously, 2.3 miles is wayy too short even for a prius
Yep earlier last year it did 249mph in half a mile, on straadman's videos

Congrats on the test! Still a lot more to go still judging by the acceleration in 7th at the end!
I’m sure that the Tuatara has more potential than that though
Pretty much, it wasn't struggeling and it kept pushing past 455km/h, so pretty sure there was plenty of air above that

@@coolmemesbudd it wasn’t even using full power though it was only using 1500 hp
It’s not the power that matters so much it’s the drag. If you start getting air up under the vehicle you’re going to get major lift and it’s going airborne. It’s a delicate balance of power and downforce that the engineers have to deal with.

The way it was accelerated to 286, makes me wonder how quick It could've made it to 300+
Which makes me wonder how he'd know the worst-case braking distance from 300+ to 0. More people die descending Everest than climbing up it.
@@EfficientRVer very good point
@Omar Williams My point was that he probably did a very smart thing, to start braking before the planned spot, whether from concerns about how the braking zone was chosen, or instinctive fear of death. Braking distance/problems from 300 to 0 might have become a different animal than 270 to 0, and doing it from 286 was a big enough jump for one run versus another, until he has a better idea of how the braking phase changes at increasingly higher speeds.. Hitting 300 or the previously claimed 331 and then having tires or brakes fail to stop the car wouldn't be good. Building up the speed a little more each run, rather than going for a big jump in speed, might avoid a disaster by having things go a bit wrong but not fatally wrong as you approach whatever the disaster speed is. There is pretty surely a speed at which something stops working as hoped. He took enough chances as it was. Having fans wish he kept his foot on the pedal longer, isn't a good enough reason to do so.
Neil Armstrong was asked 1000 times whether he was scared going to the moon. Usually the answer was about confidence in equipment and training, focus on mission, that a little fear is useful for being super alert to danger, etc. But one time his answer was more along the lines that "Putting my pink little body into a tin can on top of a huge rocket full of propellant, with some parts made by the lowest bidders, and then leaving Earth way behind, was of course scary. No matter how good you are at flying it, you can't be sure you'll make it home to the wife and kids OK. We knew it, but loved doing the job we signed up for." I'm paraphrasing, but definitely remember the "pink little body" part as a direct quote, which I cannot now find the source of.
@@EfficientRVer I'm not disagreeing with you, but in these scenarios most braking is done by the aero above 200mph. Wheel braking above those speeds is generally unsafe outside of purpose-built race cars. Both drag racing & land speed tests use chutes to slow down to a safer speed to use wheel brakes.
