- Australia Day 1999 was a significant day for the preservation of diesel locomotives in NSW. On January 26th, 1999 ownership of locomotives 4803, 4916 & 44211 was transferred from FreightCorp to the NSW Rail Transport Museum. To celebrate the occasion a special tour was organised using the three diesels. The empty carriages were hauled from Thirlmere to Enfield by 4490, where it was detached and replaced by 4803, 4916 & 44211. Passengers boarded the train at Lidcombe and then travelled to Hornsby, Lavender Bay and Gosford. The tour then headed south via Enfield, where 4490 was attached to the train and then proceeded to Thirlmere, with stops at Liverpool and Campbelltown.
What an operation. Imagine all the noise complaints from the residents.
Gawd Bevan ...... How much more of this have you got stashed away? I know that you must realise that this is Aussie Historic Gold. 1999 and such good quality for that time !!!!! Thanx for sharing .
I just love seeing Sydney 20 or more years ago and the trains thanks for sharing

Fantastic video, looks like it would have been a fun tour
Nice video
I'd like to see if the 48 and 442 had their buffers back on during restoration I'd imagine they did.
