for sure that's what i am looking for but this is the first step in map and we are looking forward to see more videos about map, thank you Maynda and Phil.
Thanks in a million. Great content. Awesome. Very well explained. I couldn't find this explanation--simply put anywhere else. Great teachers are hard to find. Grade: A++💥
Thanks so much, Phil and Mynda! I am hoping you would be able to give me some hints on how I can do the maps by region in NSW only. I need to represent the map for NSW which includes 7 regions: Greater Sydney, Hunter, North Eastern, South Eastern, North Western, South Western and Western. Thank you.
Amazing!! I have just enabled Power BI, so I will start off with UK maps. It takes me back. My first use of Pivot was to sort out historic sales data into sales territories when I was sales director for Wayne Kerr. I wanted to assess if the sale persons targets were fair by looking at the historic order book. If I had access to a map back then, my MD might have had half a chance of understanding what I was doing. I went ahead in any case----!
Hi Mynda, thanks for all your powerbi videos. its realy help to learn, im requesting you please do DAX formula vidios, and also some realtime senario videios, I belive you will do ,,,Once again Thanks for your valuable support.
Thanks, Phil and Mynda, I am hoping you would be able to give me some hints on whether there is any way to add a label to each state in custom shape map.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub At 6:07 you discuss how to get the conditional formatting to sync between the map and the table, by putting the max/min value for Shape Map. New version of shape map already puts the max/min value BUT this does not sync it with slicers anymore. UPDATE - OK, so it's one of those strange things where if you remove the max/min numbers, and then enter them again, the colour sync works. Hope this helps new users
Regarding color coding - what if there is more of categories I'd need to show? I'm currently working on a project that might have up to 15 different categories which should be shown on custom shape map. Is there an option to do this, or should I look for some other than shape map solution?
You'd have to use a different map visual that recognises cities or longitude/latitude coordinates. Try the 'Map' visual as opposed to the Shape Map visual.
Hi Mynda and Phil, I have a Queensland map which Has 13 regions which have drawn up in CAD. I want to embed that in a spreadsheet and then link data as a filter to each region. Does the same method work?
it's great to watch an english tutorial as a German - I learn a lot about Power BI while practicing my English. How do you say - to hit two flys with one stone? ;-)
Is there a version of Shape Maps with bubbles?? I want to create a map of the US with bubbles but removing the ocean so that the shape of the US shines on top of the powerBI background i've chosen.. Is this posssible? Thanks!!
Not sure. Check out the custom visuals market place to see if there are any new charts that will work for your needs: appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps?product=power-bi-visuals
Hey, thanks for this video! I still cannot find the conditional formatting tho. Theres no place where i can put in a formula and no since its a newer version it doesnt look like what is shown in the video. Can someone help? Is a special license needed?
Super helpful video, thanks! :) Anyone else not able to see the Data Colors settings in the menu? I have only populated the Region and Colour saturation fields
Hi Mynda, I am grateful for the work you do and Many thanks for the great lesson. On this lesson I was expecting to see the legend on the side of the map that show the saturation on the map. so is it possible to have a foot note or key legend on the side of the map to show the density of population that match the color on the map description? i was doing similar visual but could not figure it out on the shape map. Thanks1
There aren't any labels for the map, which is why we add a table. In practice the map won't generally be on its own. It'll be used in conjunction with other visuals which will give you that missing information like state/territory names.
Thank you, Angela! Unfortunately, the shape maps aren't available at the city level of detail. You could try the 3D maps and use longitude and latitude: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-3d-maps
Hi Mynda, Thanks for this channel, I follow your videos from your first video itself, I learnt a lot from you virtually 😊😊😊. Now I have question or doubt here. I have huge data starting from Jan-20 till date ( Running), it has month and Quarters defined in it, whenever I need power query processes all the data which is time consuming job. Is there any way where I can select date range or Quarters to narrow down search criteria. Please suggest. Thanks and regards Sanket
Hi Sanket, you can filter out the data in Power Query that you don't need to import to your file. If you have further questions please post your question and sample Excel file on our forum where we can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum
This shape map doesn't have labels as an option. If you want to see a map with location information you can use the Filled Map which has the locations labelled.
You actually DID NOT share the file. That can be uploaded to POWER BI. This is simply a demonstration. Rule 1 of teaching. A person learns more by PRACTICING. You provide no files to practice.
This video isn't teaching you how to get data. To practice shape maps you don't need to upload the original file. You just need a Power BI file containing data you can use. If you want to learn Power BI, please check out one of my step by step Power BI report videos in my Power BI playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLmd91OWgLVSKQlDJaOF1XmKghKturU5qK&si=_cjR2rYY8WFAVFbf

I can't remember off the top of my head, but if there's not an obvious option in the formatting pane, then I'd say not.
Unfortunately the Conditional Formatting tricks don't work anymore on the latest version.
The Conditional formatting tools have moved, but they should still work.

Don’t think so. 🤔
Thanks for the video 😊, you mentioned a link for the github repository - where can this be found?
The link is in the Power BI file you can download from the link in the video description.
Hello , thank you for this video , but how we can add label
s on this shape map please ?
Hello.
Great content. If I want to go one step further and locate cities of Australia as a drilldown option, how to get the cities map for australia.
You'd have to use a different map visual that recognises cities or longitude/latitude coordinates. Try the 'Map' visual as opposed to the Shape Map visual.
What should I do if the country I need is not in the drop-down list?
you saved my day!!! thanks!!

Am not having the conditional formatting option in shape map visual can anyone help me out
Nice video Mynda, thank you for sharing! I have benefitted a lot from your channel! Keep it up! 😊👍
Happy to hear that, Vijay!

It looks like you can only set the fill colours in the formatting tab under Data Colors. It still has the same effect as that shown in the video.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub I can set the color for each of the (over 200 different) values, but not for all of them in a formula or a colroing rule😕
Hi, is it possible to reflect province/district names in shape map format?
Not for most countries. You might be able to for the USA. Make sure the column heading reads 'County'.
Super helpful video, thanks! :) Anyone else not able to see the Data Colors settings in the menu? I have only populated the Region and Colour saturation fields
Nevermind, I was able to fix the issue by going to File > Options > Global > Preview Features > New format pane = unchecked
Glad you liked it, Dan!

Use the + icon in the right of the chart when the chart is enabled.
