Thank you. I had a seniors' dance gig last night (NYE). We were a 3 piece plus female vocal doing mostly jazz standards. The week before, at the run through, I learned the pianist was into cha cha for our instrumentals. I can play clave, bosa nova, and rhumba, but the only experience I had with cha cha was 8th grade band back in the 60's. Your video gave me a very simple, yet distinctive rhythm to play. We did Tea for Two and Never on Sunday. People danced and had a good time. 🙂
Very happy to hear that!! Fantastic! It's a noble thing to play for dancers... I'll bet you hit it out of the park, and I'll bet they loved it! Happy 2024 and thanks for writing!
I am glad you are showing how to play cross stick correctly. Too many pro drums are playing it incorrectly. Hopefully none the new drummers will copy them.
Great ! Thank you very much for this awesome video. Great instruction. Very clear and so easy to understand. Thank you again for good works Giny ! :) :)

+Jacques Milman Thanks for digging my videos Jacques! I appreciate that very much. If you are interested, I have a lot of other material available on my website --> www.gkdrums.com/store
Your pretty, and great hand percussion techniques. Now I know how the hands look while playing. Usually the hand percussions are behind the singers etc. so I can't see how they do it. I also liked the way your toms sounded. Well played.
Hi Gina. Try this. Do the clave 2-3 on the cross, same stuff you are doing with the hat, don't change it. Then try to put the kick on the 3 and 4 beats only, just for the heck of it. Then let me know. Cheers! Great video.
Gina Knight.. all other vids from various people.. tried yours first.. didn't get it.. it was ;late long day way tired.. all the rest Failed.. so went back today after trying a 2 conga double paradiddle with: sounds ok to me.. except, I'd be trying to teach my fellow vets at VA rec therapy/drum therapy session 1-2pm one day a week.. so had to K.I.S.S...the 4& with the paradiddle (LL)..simplified it.Tried alt : ;@ the beginning first half measure..*(1-2&) R-(r)-L- with accents on the LRL.. . Accented the 2, Open tone..ghosted the 3 &/rr..Then the 4&/LL (altogether R,r-L- rr-LL) and it rocks Thank you again.. my group is already used to the Latin R-L-R-L with accents on the LRL thing.. ..got a compliment from a fellow Vet when he wanted me to play a Bossa Nova ..I had intro'd it to them a week before.. and he liked it.. I was asked to sing something to make it more musical.. I brought a boom box with Santana album played a song with Michelle Branch that day too.. *(never figured all the group could keep the beat with a recording.. not true.. everyone did pretty good.. I planned on just listening then trying the drum beats.. but amazing it was all good.) I sang Girl From Epa Nema.. hummed it kinda and it worked ok.. I am only a member of the group( about ten of us) not a teacher.. we had fun that day. I love the Bossa Nova
hi, gina! I really am impressed by the way you take the time to reply to comments that are posted. thanks. I have a request. have you made any videos about playing with brushes? if not, please do sometime. hope you are well!
+Ronald Sperrazza Hi Ron!!! Thank you so much for writing -- I enjoy communicating with anyone that appreciates my little videos. ;) Yes! Actually......I have about a 12 minute video on brushes. It is #7 "Bonus Features" here -------> drumlessonsgirl.com/store Take care, Ron xoxo
Hi Gina, have you ever used Axis bass drum pedals before? I have an old pair of DW7000s that I'm looking to upgrade. The Axis have stellar reviews but they're very expensive. Would love to hear your thoughts! Hope all is well.
Great lesson. Is it possible for you to do a lesson on singing and playing the drums at the same time? How many instruments do you play? Would you ever play the alto saxophone?
+Jonás Carrillo Hi Jonas -- everything is for sale on www.gkdrums.com/store I suggest you get the Latin Chapter. It has the Samba and Bossa Nova, and it is $2.99 Thanks!! :) :)
For not being a güiro or conga player, I still appreciated the demonstrations! Very helpful for someone to understand their importance when learning chachachá. Just a quick tip-- your bass drum pattern is not incorrect, but it is a more American pop/jazz chacha interpretation. Try playing on the "and of beat 2" and the "down beat of 4", and I think you'll be happier with the way that it grooves with the bass guitar and clave. Saludos! +Gina Knight

Guess What? I Gotta FEVER.
And the only prescription... is more COWBELL!!
+KINDLE ;-)
Thank You so much for making me better....[ & being hot too ! ]...lol
:-D :-D
you'd call the "congas" it's Spanish, not Greek. Love how I can tell you really love and repect Latin American music and culture. Un abrazo.
+Alexandro Rebollo XOXOX Thank you! :)
+Gina Knight ☺
Curios: Why do you play conga left handed? :-o
Are you left handed?
+SAHBfan Actually right handed.....self taught on the conga, so that's just how I taught myself ;)
Ok
You've got a lot to offer here, and it all grooves. May I suggest you loosen your wrists. Less stiff, more finesse. ;) Check out the Moeller method.
You know that "Guantanamera" is a guajira, and not a chachachá, right?
Great lesson, and that's coming from a Cuban drummer lol.
Gina, no not congi just conga's.
Your mic setup has a weird echo on it. I feel like a dog is licking my ear :S
