They told us to "Eat the Rich", flaunted their wealth online and were then shocked when we took a bite.
Right on with that analogy!
Ikr their attitude was very much " its ok were rich though, cut that out!" Out. Of. Touch.
I feel like everything boils down to this.
Sarah's post was honestly about as out of touch as Steven saying that $5.99 was affordable to everyone, especially with the context of the wedding cost and her humble bragging about the damn tote bag. I get that she wanted to defend her husband and his business partners, but this was just not the way to do it. Guilt tripping people with the mention of fair wages is such a low blow, that shit breaks trust even further than the og announcement video did. If you want to pay your people fair wages, then maybe you shouldn't hire more people than you can pay fairly. Seems like simple math to me
Yeah, if your man who is part owner of a company isn't saying anything; maybe it's best for you NOT to get involved either....
@@MyKindofEntertainment Exactly. It would've been a better look if she had just joined them in their weekend of silent panic instead of turning to Tumblr
@@joanderson6880 better for her. I think exposing her true self is better for the public.
@@Greypelt7 That is so true
She relays on her husband's carisma and success cause she is not a likable person, nor successful, that's why she is upset. I never liked her and now I know why.
I find it extremely funny that she says this needs to happen for people to be paid fairly. Does Steven lim need an expensive car to live? No. No he doesn’t. Not at all
You said a mouthful right there!
Sell that car, bro!
For me, it's not just the car. It's the fact that they say they have money problems, but they have 25 employees and have also hired two new people. I'm not a businesswoman, but even I know that's not the right way to go.
Let him live in the expensive car 😂😂
@@simply_sarah04 absolutely. Agree 100%. It’s like what large corps do. Overhire and once they realize they’re fucked they pass the cost onto customers. Hell my own job does that shit.
Never a good idea to unpromptly interfere with your partners career.
What I am hearing: "We need livable wages."
What I am seeing: A Tesla. Three different wedding dresses. A 50k wedding location. Two new hires. Steven flying around to eat food that cost more than others make in a year...
What I am not seeing: Getting rid of overly costly formats that no one cares about. Not laying off staff you can't afford. Moving your business to a more affordable place than effing LA. Downsizing production cost by focusing on formats the viewers actually want (polls). Having a more attractive Patron tier system. And so on and so forth...
I have only subscribed again to see the stuff when it comes out for free a month later.
I was thrilled the first time I saw the apology but after having time to reflect including Saras attitude regarding the whole thing.
Feels like trying it again after having been cheated on by your partner. You wanna try but deep down you already know it's over.
Nuff said!
Someone described it as crumpling a piece of paper. You can straighten it out but it is never the same again and that speaks to me
Add that all three were wearing $20,000 watches in the goodbye video
She thinks paying 100$ for a tote back is fine what type of survivable living is that lmao
😂
Everyone keeps pointing out the bag when it's not that crazy of a price because it's actually a laptop purse. Mine was $85 dollars because I'm going to splurge on something higher quality to protect my laptop vs my 35 dollar purse that was triple discounted. I wish people had focused more on her apparently exorbitant wedding instead because it makes it seem like she was spending 100 dollars for something to hold her bananas.
@@lulufortytwo3884yeeepp. Her wedding VENUE alone was 60k. More than most people make yearly.
@@lulufortytwo3884it’s not that crazy, I have spent that on bags and I’m nowhere near rich. But for people really suffering in this economy, it’s out of touch to brag about spending money like that and turn around and essentially clap back about the cost of things and “liveable wages.” It’s not just the bag, it’s taking that together with the exorbitant wedding (which you did mention) that is giving “out of touch”
@lulufortytwo3884 the bag is just one excessive buy in a long list of ones she just talks about on tumblr. But yes 100% that wedding was so excessive. I understanding wanting a nice wedding but someone said she had three dresses. Shane had mentioned spending (imo) way too much on her ring
And then just rhe amount of times they post on insta about "coming back from vacation"
After thinking about it... I don't think I will be subscribing back to watcher. I have watched and rewatched the apology video... I honesty call bullshit that a streaming service was their only reasonably option. Saying that if they didn't do this they would need to shut down the channel... I just don't think thats honest.
Same.
Same here! Their justification for the streamer and it being their ONLY option...it just ain't adding up at all.
@MyKindofEntertainment Yeah their finances make no sense. I still have so many questions about this. They said if they stuck solely with youtube and doing what they were already doing they'd go under. Well they're kinda still doing that everyone or most are going to likely wait the month for it to be on youtube. They'll probably have no more subscribers than their existing patreon members which also weren't enough financially. And they say advertisers were restricting what they could put out on youtube but all their content is still going to be on youtube all be it a month later so they still have to meet advertising standards. Are they going to spend more time and money editing all these videos for youtube. They don't seem to have solved any of the original problems they claimed to have had so how's it going to be sustainable longterm and will the company therefore still go under. If this is the solution to aaaalll problems then were the finances ever really that bad??. Plus the original video was yeah were doing all this stuff were hiring new staff putting out bigger and better content we need more money to continue growing cos were doing all this amazing expensive stuff sooo streaming service. Then the apology we have no money we can't keep our heads above water we dont want to lay off staff we were verging on closing down sooo streaming service. Which is it guys🤣
Same, i pulled out of their damn patrion too
Agree 💯
The apology seemed disingenuous
So no I'm fine being done with them.
Trying to throw the employees under the bus lol like they can't pay them ... Ridiculous.
What's crazy is, they have 25 employees, yet they still hire independent contractors to film them on site when they shoot at haunted locations. Like no one on your staff can operate a camera??? I agree, they need a manager to budget for them.
All of this!!!
Seriously. They desperately need a CEO with actual business experience/education or, if not that, at the very least a qualified CFO. However, I have a feeling they wouldn't like the solutions someone in those positions would recommend...
My theory is they hired too many ppl, economy isnt doing well, they live in LA so its one of the most expensive places, then they are overspending. Its catching up and like they said they dont want to lay their friends off
Agreed! Shoot trips to Food Lion for example used to be well 'not too bad' swipe that MVP card and watch the price drop, but now the 'discounts' on groceries at the cash register barely make a dent. That's why even though I can afford Watcher TV, I'm not paying for something that isn't even in my Top 5 RUclips channels to watch ya know?
They could literally make that content anywhere. It's not location specific anyway. Maybe live within your means
None of this is the actual issue. It’s that they built their business model during Covid. When everyone was stuck at home watching RUclips. They assumed this was natural growth after leaving buzzfeed. When in reality it was an inflated number of views. That how you end up cash poor, with too many employees four years later.
Their biggest mistake was making Steven their CEO who thought nothing of blowing their budget on stupidly expensive meals and traveling the globe. Who essentially let Ryan and Shane spend money, on all of their nerd tech. They have what we call; a Julie Taymor problem. There are creatives that work better with an MBA reining them in. Think the Lion King versus Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark.
And once you hit a certain number of employees you have to start providing benefits.
One of the best responses I saw was “shut up Sarah”
😂
Second comment, but yep seriously. I got two young kids and just left homelessness. We got evicted cuz my partner was laid off during my pregnancy.
Like we may now be stable , but living in Florida with two kids as younger parents , I can't afford shit. So the fact she said the words "survivable wage" with the life style they have. Ooooo killed me . I'm not sure how I feel anymore about them
This situation reminds me of the backlash Oprah and The Rock got when they did some video about donating to Hawaii after some disaster that took place.
all I can say is that what she thinks doesn't necessarily reflect what her husband thinks, but aside from that I don't trust any of them lol
You missed the tags she added, that was the most frustrating part for me. It was like "#I think most people think all youtubers have mr beast money #this is not the case" like yeah no shit Sara. Do they think we're stupid? Great vids on this btw
Mr. Beast got that money by not ripping off fans. Maybe they should take a page from his book. You want money like Mr. Beast? This isn't the way.
Dang, I gotta go back and look at that!
the tags were pretty insulting for sure
Yeah the tags were what really pissed people off
The tags were so stupid. You don't need to be as rich as MrBeast to still be rich
They just rich people, talkin rich 🤡
Cha-ching
Sara's post was a bit out of touch. When I was growing up, my family was one paycheck away from living on the streets. We didn't have money for $100 tote bag or for a wedding venue that is 50K. We still don't. We live within our means. But she doesn't appear to have a clue what true survival on a tiny paycheck means. Otherwise, she would spend her money more wisely. It definitely appears that they don't know how to manage their money. The Watcher, just from their 13k Patreons alone, are making about $90,000 a month. That is way more than what I make in a year. And this amount does not include the ads from their sponsors, live tours, or the merch they sell. I realize they have about 20 to 25 employees and maybe all of that revenue doesn't go very far, but why do they need so many employees? These are just observations, I don't know exactly what all of their costs are. I can only speak on what I see as an outsider looking in, but something doesn't appear to add up.
When dude said 100s of thousands per season for a show like Ghost Files...I was floored. I mean yeah the travel, location fees, post-production, etc. add up but to spend THAT MUCH? How much are they spending on their other shows that don't require all the travel and stuff?!
I felt this. My step dad was military so there was always a paycheck, but growing up we couldn't have what we wanted when we wanted it. My sister and I remember having to wait to get the popular LA gear sneakers til they were really on sale. Our mom did get them but we had to wait a year😂
@@MyKindofEntertainment I go on paranormal investigations. That is what I upload on my channel. Big places like a prison or asylum are about $1500-$2300. I really have to save for those. Other places range from $200-$500, and they allow for up to ten people for those prices. So for $250, a team of ten can investigate the Sallie house. And you usually lay out a sleeping bag and stay overnight at these locations. Some locations do ask you to end the investigation at 2 am or so, which does require hotel expenses. But they made their investigations sound really outlandishly expensive. I'm not trying to throw shade at them, but I just feel that something doesn't add up.

If what she says is true, to choose to over hire and not being able to cover wages is a business problem. Realistically, they already have as much creative freedom as would be possible in terms of the shows they want to make and how much they want to spend on them. If they can’t cover wages, why did Adam and Andrew just get hired? I understand they want to grow, but the books are theirs to balance, not ours. Not sure what more they could be asking for.
Also, I really like Ryan and Shane. But things like the food content especially are not exactly revolutionary. I saw a more recent video on their feed about trying British snacks for the first time. I watched at least 50 of those videos on RUclips back in 2012.
This is pretty much my exact take too. It sounds like they made poor business choices and we are expected to foot the bill so they can make the content THEY wanna make but not the content that WE want to see
Yeah, I don't know the ins and out of Watcher but maybe it's a nepotism thing where they wanna bring aboard as many as their old Buzzfeed coworkers as possible but as a result; they are overextending themselves financially
Rachel hollis pulled that bone head move too with over hiring. She said she had 60 people. What happened she had to fire all but one!
I think Sara and everyone at Watcher really just missed the point on all of it. When literally EVERYONE ELSE in your industry can make quality content with their same budget then something’s wrong with THEM! They fucked up their business with not only separating themselves from their fans but also basically putting out a statement to their whole industry that they have NO idea how to run their own business! Now every advertiser is going to try to low ball them and no one is going to be asking to work with them because a business that doesn’t know how to separate their feelings from their business is literally a business doomed to fail. Now they apologized but its only going to be a short time before they HAVE to try some other way to get more money because they have basically paid to get their own website out to get ZERO money from it (patreon is getting it for free and i can’t imagine anyone who wasn’t on their patreon is buying into it now. No one is going to want their merch after this and people are already asking for refunds to their live shows. They are fucked financially.)
Yeah, I wish we knew what live show tickets and merch sales are like now...
Her post pissed me off so much that I'm still sour.
Yeah some people still say they have a bitter taste in their mouth even after the apology video
why not just admit that they just wanna be rich? oh right cos that would go against their core personality traits that they're using to rake in views. it's ned fulmer 'wife guy' just in a different font
I was thinking the same thing!
Shane and Sarah's $55,000 wedding, I got married at the court house. "Eat the Rich" smh.
That was just the cost of the venue. Some people have been saying it’s closer to $250k in total
@@mun3698 Holy crap
Good grief 😟
I honestly find it hard to sympathize with the Watcher guys, because no one told them to have so many employees and to travel to all these locations for their videos. I get that higher quality is what they wanted, but they shouldn't have taken that plunge without knowing for sure that they could sustain it in the long run.
Exactly, take a look at the books before making these huge purchases
No offense to Shanes wife but i tried to watch her on one of the shows where they mix like drinks or whatever but her personality is like totally the opposite of Shane but if Shane is happy im happy but as far as paying for 6.99 nah im just gonna wait for it to drop a month later as Ryan says Free Food definitely tastes good
Opposites attract; Am I right?
Totally agree. But the woman in the show where they mixed drinks was Ryan's wife Mariella Scott.
@@MyKindofEntertainment I guess so
@@tiffyj right im getting the two mixed up
I think what added salt to the wound is that Shane's wife not only said the 'survivable living' without considering how many luxuries they (her, her man & co) enjoy and post about on social media, but also she was a little patronizing when insinuating an audience that has followed these guys from 2016 and is an avid youtube consumer can't tell Mr. Beast has more money than most youtubers tbh. So obviously Tumblr were (and still kind of are) ripping her to shreds in the tags (which makes me feel kind of bad for her tbh 😅).
I don't feel bad at all, I never liked her, or her content and posts, and now I know why 😂 she is just as greedy as Steven, and would throw her husband under the bus if that would mean that she can get to keep her lifestyle. She knows that her husband has the charisma and personality. She is just an appendix 😂
Yeah, I just scrolled through some earlier today
Tbh I don't really follow any of the Warcher people's lives outside what was shared in their videos or was known whitin some fandom spaces so I knew Shane was recently married but had no idea what his wife looked like. Since people have been sharing some of the ig/ twitter posts they made about their travels and weddings, I've only recently realized that Shane's wife showed up in some of their content at all! 😅
@@luci8002 i was floored when I found out he and Steven have wives lol
Apparently ‘fair wages’=‘make us even richer’ for the Watcher crew.
Exactly the equation I was thinking lol
She really should of just stayed out of it!
I get wanting to support and backup your partner, but there was no way this was going to go well for her. Audiences were mad about a creator's business decison and one of their wives posting a guilt trip wasn't going to change their mind. All that was ever going to happen was that they were going to get mad at her too.
They really need a PR professional, because a professional would have warned them that the only responses should be on the channels' official social media and that friends and family should not be involved in the messaging, and that employees should only make public posts about it if managing the company's PR or social media is part of their job duties!
Seriously, if your spouse/the person actually working in the business is mute on the situation; WTH are you doing getting into the mix?
@@MyKindofEntertainment I've seen a lot of people speculate that Watcher didn't consult a PR professional before this announcement due just how many PR 101 mistakes they made in the process, and this is yet another one.
So, if I had to guess, this is probably why.
Absolutely PR 101; their sense of proper PR is as abysmal as their business practice. I think they might've hired a PR professional after the monumental backlash based on how they worded their apology and, if they did, I sincerely hope any third party who spoke out of turn before an official statement was released (read: Sara and that employee) got their knuckles rapped. It's completely understandable to want to come to your husband's defence, but it was completely ill-advised and did more harm than good. I mean, even Simu Liu posted an IG story coming to Steven's/Watcher's defence (not overtly, but the subtext was there for people aware of the situation), which is just ridiculous. Third parties have no business commenting on a fiasco of this scale, especially not before the company itself officially responds.
@@kayzmavc4596 I don't know who the Simu Liu thing was more embarrassing for!
I mean, people weren't happy with Sara Rue, but they can understand that she's Shane's wife so of course that's going to be her position. Everyone basically agreed that she was wrong for what she said and for saying anything at all, but we can get wanting to defend your husband.
With Simu Liu though...is it worse that one of Watcher's only outside defenders was a guy who has a reputation for being a thin-skinned whiner who can't take even the slightest criticism, or more embarrassing for the Marvel actor expending whatever goodwill he has left with fans to come to the defense of Steven Lim (ie: the guy on Watcher that no on subscribes to Watcher for!).
No one was saying they shouldn’t be paid what they’re worth but to go “we don’t want money from multi-million dollar companies anymore, we want money from the regular person who is our fan” is what makes her post extremely out of touch and laughable.
From everything that’s come out it seems apparent they have enough revenue coming in, it’s how they choose to spend it on their end that’s the problem and asking regular people to pay you $6 USD a month isn’t going to fix poor business decisions on their end.
The first paragraph said everything that needed to be said!
I’ve seen people on tumblr defend them saying “they’re not the 1%! It’s different!” Nah you’re in a different world when you drop $50,000 on a wedding _venue_
Plus everyone saying the implications about Steven were racist? I can’t say I read every comment so hell if I know if someone was racist in their comments towards Steven but everything I saw specified the timing to his arrival and advance to CEO, the shows he makes and wants to make, and his spending. So it’s just a mess over there right now, but that’s pretty normal.
Yeah, I don't have enough time to go over EVERY single video or comment on this subject lol
Lol tumblr is a different monster. And I say this as someone who’s been on there for a decade. Tumblr is the only place I saw any kind of support for watcher streaming. And I saw quite a few supporters. Tumblr is the type of place where people are so deep into the cool aid they can’t they can’t tell that their sweet innocent ghost bois aren’t their friends. Also don’t look to deep into the racism accusations. Tumblr loves calling people racist even though they clearly aren’t racist. I got called racist for liking Hamilton when it came out on Disney plus and also talking about a character that had racist characteristics in the past.
@@alexbramley195 some people sadly are clowns who will use any excuse to blame people for pointing out terrible things someone is doing and it gives the people who are actually victims of things like racism a bad look, like ffs recently I saw some idiots saying "black people are privileged" because defense for OJ Simpson in the trial for murder he committed blamed it on people being "racist towards him" completely missing the point that he got away because he was RICH not because he was black
"We want to be able to pay our employees livable wages!" Great, then cut your overinflated paycheck to accommodate your poor business practices. It seems like the whole lot of them lack self awareness: How many times has Steven tried to recreate Worth It? How many times does he post about flying to luxury places, eating food in one sitting that costs more than most peoples' paycheck? Then that damn podcast where he was talking about a new Tesla and his multi-million dollar home. Shane and Sara's wedding venue was $50,000, I wonder how much Ryan and Steven paid for their respective weddings? They're complaining about the cost of everything while living and working in the most expensive area in this country, they hired on WAY too many people for the quantity of content they record and release and then overproduce the hell out of it. I think I mentioned this on another video, but Ryan casually mentioned that he pays ten people to come out with them to the ghost hunts: why? That just seems like overkill even on the biggest of locations. The crew is going to be around the hosts, do they honestly need more than a five-person crew? Or are they just bringing them out so they can try to justify having thirty employees? They make so much damn money, but they can't even pay attention to the real world happening around them.
Oh that last sentence was on point!
And then you have Garrett Watts with Andrew, driving a car to different locations, only two of them creating amazing and funny videos + the editing, all by themselves
Wanting to pay people a fair wage is admiral but is on the shoulders of the company. And the watcher co makes plenty bank.
Yeah, take the money put into the Watcher TV platform and make that into the fair wages
I’ve been thinking about it, and lately, on their podcast they’ve been having employees replace like Ryan…I think they were trying to humanize their reasoning…but it goes back to, if you can’t afford it, you shouldn’t have it. Don’t hire too many people!
I sure as hell wish I had even the possibility of living beyond my means.
Thanks for the content. I’ve enjoyed watching.
Thank you so much :)
Charlie's video really exposed them. If you haven't watched it you should.
I certainly will!
Who's Charlie ?
I feel bad saying this simply bc I’ve only seen Sara a few times in puppet history or whatever, but I never liked her. I couldn’t put my finger on why and honestly still can’t, but this has certainly added a few reasons. 😆
😂
Why? Because she is totally out of touch with the fans . She has everything she does because fans watch her husband . She’s making fans out to be the bad guy not wanting to pay Shane what he’s worth when they are already living the good life and throwing a lavish wedding . These people have forgotten the old saying don’t bite the hand that feeds you 😒
All of what you said!
She was never part of the chemistry between Ryan and Shane. She and Steven Lim are clinging dingle berries.
Thank you!!! This!!! 😂
Yeah, kinda the stick in the mud in some videos because the dry 'humor' compared to energetic folks like Katie or Ryan and heck even Shane's deadpan delivery makes me laugh so hard when it's timed right.
Sara couldn't handle the heat and disabled her histogram
Oh she did?!
She's deleting any and all comments mentioning what she said
I saw people talking about how she was blocking people
What a coward.
If you say something, then deal with the heat if you believe that.
Even with and apology from the guys, the damage is done and Sara did not help in the slightest with her rude comments towards people who can't fork over $6 a month to a limited library streaming service. Times are hard enough as it is but people like Sara are ignorant to her hubby's fans.
Yeah, the tide has not changed in the guy's favor that's for sure
I feel like they did not expect the backlash they got
which is why they backtrack so quickly
but they pretty much had to do this otherwise they would lose
like 70% of their viewers
HAHAHA NOPE! I have no doubt they posted that video Friday thinking they did something but then sat in silence ALL WEEKEND lol
Out of those 25 people one of them should have been a financial advisor.
I had subscribed and commented on their video after watching the apology. After a while contemplating things, I still felt icky about it and realized that apology video wasn’t entirely honest.
They refuse to look inwards to address their money issues (move locations, cut down staff, etc.). And then they claim they’ll be entirely shut down without the streaming service, which wouldn’t happen if they made the tough decisions needed to run a business.
It really comes down to one thing: entitlement. It’s like having an arrogant, entitled family member in your life who’s drowning in debt, and instead of changing their bad spending habits, they expect you to somehow cough up the money and continue buying more shit they don’t need.
Yeah, look at the papers and figure out if you really need to add more people to the company or do we need to spend less on this or that. I understand NOT wanting to fire people because that's not a good look especially when platforms like Buzzfeed were doing the same not long ago. However, sometimes you have to bite the bullet when it comes to cutting folks loose or making the necessary adjustments
Their viewers are not responsible for ensuring their employees get fair wages. They need to make some internal changes to do that, not put it on their viewers.
YUP! We are the deciding factor to their success based on our VIEWS! What they do with the $ they generate is up to them!
The people at watcher and their spouses need to be grateful that the fans even told them how they felt. People could have just disliked the video, unsubbed and not paid for the streaming service and left them all gut punched. The fans didn’t even have to reach out after it was put so cut and dry the way it was. They gave them feed back and the guys did something that was more fair to all their viewers, but I still think the streaming service isn’t going to do well as well as the RUclips channel now especially after hearing what Shane’s wife had to say and the watcher employee. You think we’re spoiled brats because we either can’t afford/ don’t want another streaming service? They can save their lectures for another time.
YES! The noise was so dang loud that if I was affiliated with Watcher by relationship or paycheck; I wouldn't say a dang thing!

Welcome aboard!
I know I’m broke, but to be attacked by them completely out of left field, basically rubbing it in just how broke I am that I can’t afford $5.99/month, really hurt. My opinion of them has been irrevocably altered, now I know the disdain they actually feel for people like me who they consider to be unworthy of viewing their content. Wish I’d realised they were assholes a lot sooner, then maybe this wouldn’t have been so painful.
Yup 4 years too late for any of us :(
I do like Shane and no disrespect but when she first appeared as a guest on their videos I was like...nope.
😂
My reaction too.
I first saw her on Puppet History and her arrogant attitude hit me the wrong way.
She should have kept her pie-hole shut, but after she posted, blocking people from commenting just made it all a lot worse.
She's too cowardly to deal with the fallout of what she thinks, so she ignores it.
Entitled and tone-deaf.
this happens when your art is shit, and you happen upon a lonely tall man that has massive money potential, AND you live in L frickin A

I still cant believe just how unnecessarily expensive ghost files is to create like I follow another ghost hunting channel here from Sweden and they make really well produced 1-2 hour long videos with TWO camera men and that's pretty much it. They only have around 140K subscribers are travel outside of Sweden pretty regularly and I doubt they have an abundance of money to spend, but they make it work because they're passionate about their job and take it seriously enough. If you don't have the money to produce a show you simply do not do it or you wait until you have a budget. This move was fueled by greed and it's sad to see that so many people just... forgave them after the apology.
What's the Swedish channel name?
@@vanessac1721 Laxton Ghost Sweden :) I'm pretty sure they have English subtitles as well if that's needed. Great guys I've been following them for years now.

@@MyKindofEntertainment Do!! They actually love to debunk evidence and are respectful towards the spirits. They usually just present their findings and that's it, no other nonsense :)
It is NEVER a good idea for a third party to comment on a situation as volatile as this one before an official statement is released. Based on the wording of their apology video, I get the sense Watcher got a PR person to help, and I sincerely hope Sara got her knuckles rapped by them for speaking out of turn before the guys made a statement themselves. Her coming to Watcher's/Shane's defence is absolutely understandable and a reasonable reaction, but it was completely ill-advised and only added fuel to the fire (which was already raging without her input).
"paying ppl fairly even w ads is hard" not when u do it right, ur way is obviously not working.,... r ppl dumb??
Clearly so haha
They keep employing all their buzzfeed friends and family members
Sarah didn’t help at all lol she should’ve stayed hush
you got that right
you got that right
I was an avid fan of unsolved at buzzfeed. Casual fan of Watcher, only liked puppet history. But the thing that rubs me the wrong way about this whole thing is just how tone deaf they are. We are finally acknowledging how overconsumption and flexing wealth is harmful and bad and they want to paywall content so Steven Lim can hire his Worth It friends, go international and eat the most extravagant food they can find to tell us a $800 meal isn't worth it unless it's paid for by subscribers.
Quote Mark Cuban from shark tank “welcome to the real world”.
Classic quote!
It's not so much that Sara's post deserved the clap-back, as it is that that was the response to be expected, so if she didn't want to be clapped back at, it would have been sensible for her not to post anything. I think it's actually kinda sweet that she jumped in to defend Shane, but her "defense" is just as problematic as the original Goodbye RUclips video, so... no, she didn't DESERVE the backlash, but she should have known that she would get it!
That's a very solid way of putting it
I think Charlie and Coffeezilla really showed how ridiculous their spending was, I think that was a huge factor, because it exposed them being duplicitous.
The fact they can't pay their people fairly anyways even with the streamer cause no one's gonna join anyway, and their patreon are unsubscribing and I'm sure less people would go on tours. Once people were like no, I think it's a clear indication that it's not gonna work no matter how much they defend it
Yeah, I'm interested to see how their most recent live show went...
A 50k wedding is fucking insane. Insane! Not that people don’t deserve to have a wonderful wedding day but damn. Also yeah it’s fucking hard I am one of many artists trying to make a living; these are creatives who actually made it…
That wasn't the whole wedding - just the cost of the venue.
The whole wedding was probably well over $100,000.
She wore three dresses, then tells people they can't pay employees a "fair wage"?
Maybe because she gets FAR too much of the pie!
Sara bitching that her husband deserves more money for his done to death ideas is proof to me they didn’t want to backtrack and only did it because their platform didn’t get enough subscriptions over the weekend. If it did their goodbye would be permanent, anyone handing them money after that deserves the 3 mid ass videos a month they get.
Yeah, and they were probably on the verge of losing WAY more people over the next week had they not backtracked!
If watcher got a dollar for each 'you know' in this video, they might have enough money to produce their tv-caliber contents without goodbye-ing youtube 😂😂😅😂😅
I think it’s greed … I feel very sad … I enjoyed watching them and looked forward to their shows on buzz feed . Gladly moved to watcher , and this is wrong … from the heart , they did US dirty …
Downright filthy...
With the march, the advertising, the packed live shows there’s no way that channel isn’t making bank, something is wrong. Like is someone embezzling or what? They need to hire a financial advisor if they are as broke as they say they are.
Yeah that should've been one of the employees they hired!
@@MyKindofEntertainment It should have been the first employee from the sound of it!
Frankly, I'm not resubscribing to watcher unless they get rid of the fat, particularly Steven Lim. Since their first announcement that they're leaving buzzfeed and beginning watcher I was stoked but it felt that steven lim was an odd addition. Never liked a single video of his. And I still believe he is a detriment to their channel. When he leaves, I'll watch their stiff
Yeah, I always figured him as the man behind the scenes handling business stuff while Ryan & Shane well; did their thing
@@MyKindofEntertainment The thing is, Steven thinks he should be in front of the camera and wants the money for HIS projects.
If he was doing the real work of a CEO, then he wouldn't have time for that. He would be making better decisions than this nonsense.
I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it here; I believe Watcher TV was always in the works from day one. Their whole mantra is creating TV level content for the internet, but that's really not what the fan base wants. They just want to see Ryan and Shane hunt ghosts and solve mysteries. Everything else is garnish, and considering some of the stuff that Steven Lim was shooting, it was a garnish more expensive than the main course. I've re-subbed to the channel since the apology, but the audience/Watcher dynamic is way out of whack now because the mask slipped and we know they only see numbers.
Yup, and we'll see what their channel numbers are in the near future
SSSHHHHHHH tumblr isn't a thing! SH!
😂
Yeah the more they leave us alone the better 😂
@@MyKindofEntertainment But in all seriousness, good video! I loved your parting words 😂
If I played a drinking game where I took a shot every time you said “you know” in this vid, I’d be dead 5 times over.
You know that's dangerous right?
She should have stayed out of it
Sara was trying to defend her husband. I can't blame her for that. The cost of her wedding... idk I have a cousin who's wedding in a very low cost of living was $100k. Where I live the average wedding is about $20k. But LA area per the knot its typical for about $50k.
Yeah, that west coast living ain't cheap!
Their wedding didn't cost $50k - just the VENUE cost that much.
They went WAY overboard with that.
Weddings here in California aren't cheap, but you can do a REALLY nice one in LA for far less than they had to have spent.
Ok but come on. They just made a recap about making watcher and mentioned how hard it all is and how they aren't business minded. That's how Steven ended up ceo because he had less content and more time for it. ( made Steven look bad tbh) ... it really sets Steven up for this fall.
They sat together and said "we messed up" ... but frankly (idk if I'm just hopeful) but Shane looked like he was tryin not to laugh.
And I was just watching a vid where someone points out Shane suggests password sharing and Ryan's like ... yeah sure and Steven just side eyes Shane.
Honestly if they didn't haves so much charm together watcher would have burned this week. It's the only thing buying them A round 2.
(Also I'm pretty sure they had to let a few employees go during covid so like... how many did they have before yikes.)
also, no body's talking about Ryan saying he wants to make content that doesn't have to have them in it.... does Ryan want out? His whole vibe during the exit vid to me read giddy and like he knew this would either blow up in their face or take off and he seemed fine. Shane was the one saying "if this is the last time on yt then what a ride" like he wasn't sure this would take off.
Yeah, I believe I watched that video too and I think the question of whether or not they were MAKING money came up which it did and Ryan 'joked' about how NO, but then he ran it back by saying with staff, increase of quality; we're doing something here and we're grateful for it
She also works at blizzard so yeah
But like yeah they need a buisness advisor because i think they get so excited to do thing that cost alot of money that they ??? Forget to do actually better content????
Yup less is certainly more. I mean I get their drive to do 'higher quality' content, but do they have enough SUCCESSFUL series on YT that would translate over to a streamer? IMO no; not yet anyway...
She’s pregnant they need money for the baby and it’s expensive preschool!!
Better layoff some staff then haha
Just having no empathy on the plight of the common people shows how insensitive she is and your platform is not even a basic need. I understand that you need to earn money but so do us and not everyone is willing to subscribe for a streaming service for the amount that you specified that almost on par with known streaming services like netflix and disney+.
Yeah it's not even a competition I'm not choosing Watcher over any other platform I'm already paying for
Lmfao bruv they spent a 55k on her wedding lol she acting like she poor da fuq
😂
People make mistakes. They’re not perfect. What’s important is learning from your mistakes, and they obviously did. Everyone is making it sound like it’s so easy to run a business when most of us haven’t. It’s not. There will always be mis-steps and mistakes, but they are willing to listen to our feedbacks and readjust. As for people claiming staff were ‘clapping back’. I was defending them on IG and YT, so people started claiming either I was a staff member or Steven’s burner account. An angry brain is not always reliable
My guy… saving their asses bc their career depends on it and they wouldn’t be able to have their rich lifestyle isn’t learning from their mistakes…
@@localabsurdist6661’Saving their asses’ is nothing more than just a perspective, not the truth. Of course, my perspective that their apology is genuine, possibly the most genuine public apology from any other channels, is also not the truth. But that’s the truth I believe in. The way everyone is making it seem so ‘matter of fact’ not knowing the difference between their personal opinion and biases is immature and irresponsible. Again, angry brains aren’t reliable, but it’s also dangerous with lazy labelings and matter-of-fact assumptions
Eh...
But, my dude, a brain that is also hooked on a parasocial relationship is not reliable either.
@@nicholruaya8120 I’m not defending them because of a parasocial relationship. It’s more like I’m an adult who understands and accept the fact no one is perfect and people will make mistakes. Depends on the level of the mistake, I believe in forgiveness. For anyone who would claim anyone would only apologize just to save their asses is the type of person you can never win with because they are the unforgivable type. I’m not cynical like that.
Can you just focus on the 3 founders and not drag someone whose not part of the company?Targeting a woman with her own opinion (it may be right or wrong) is a low blow sir.
Except she involved herself in the matter and many online have pointed her comment out, not just this dude.
Even a Marvel actor inserted himself into the matter. Sara and him could keep their comments to themselves but no. They made the choices to say something, that’s on them.
She has been a public figure on Buzzfeed and has appeared multiple times on their channel. She has a massive following on Instagram and Tumblr. She is/was also an employee at Watcher. She’s an artist and made art for some show… she’s anything but what you described her to be
She involved herself in this HAHA
She stepped in it, just saying
An opinion she posted publicly in her capacity as the wife of one of the founders and a frequent guest on her channel. She therefore has stakes in whether or not the channel continues to make bank.
Sarah NEVER should have spoken on it 😅 I saw her comment and it ruined my view of her. Girl, of course you want to believe in them….YOU’LL PROFIT FROM IT 🫠🫠
😂😂😂
I’ve been watching the boys since the first unsolved. This has all been unbelievable…
I completely agree. It was very insensitive, especially since Shane hadn’t said a word at that point. They should have just gone to the drawing board and lowered their budget first before trying this extreme. But the Watcher fans would have paid $6 to watch the security footage of the weekend in their office. 👀 they could have made millions.🫣
MAN!!!! If they charged $50 for that footage; I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Just to see the panicked looks on everyone's faces as the comments rolled in, bloggers posted about it and other RUclipsrs not to mention the TikTok posts...
@@MyKindofEntertainment exactly🤣 They’d be millionaires in no time. 🫣
