9ths, 11ths, and 13ths (upper extensions, as they're often referred to) can really add a lot of personality to chords. Another smart way to use them is to remove some of the lower notes in the chord, then take an upper extension and move it down an octave. So you might use 1 5 and 9, but with the 9 brought down to a 2, so your end result is 1 2 5. This is still basically the same chord, but it will have a distinctly different quality to it. Taking notes from a chord and moving them up and down by an octave can give you a lot of different textures out of the same basic notes.

Such a fun video, and I love the editing style! I've recently started experimenting with putting reverb on drums, it really makes them come to life. @@christhescientist It absolutly works. After other Tutorials i feel overwhelmed. After this one i just started making music. Thanks again for your work.
Some songs are from the game itself and in my opinion it should stay that way. Oldschool dnb cant be remastered or remake. Itll sound too modern tbh. Still great for show this vid for people that have the ambition and drive to make this art!
Allow me to retort: Old school DnB CAN be remade and CAN be remastered. Remember the software we have today can replicate every process and sound used back them. There's no such thing as not being able to recreate that sound. Allow me to show you how in future videos, but stil I respect your opinion my friend

Would be rad if you did an analysis of Machine Girl's soundtrack to Neon White. It's clearly drawing on influences from PSX/Dreamcast era DnB but it has lot of other things going on too.
That's a great suggestion, you're right about the influences and style. Definitely lots of layers to that soundtrack like you mentioned. It's interesting how stuff from our past can evoke such emotion out of us
What program is being used to actually construct the tracks? I have been trying to get into this stuff but keep getting overwhelmed in Ableton, ProTools, etc. free versions.
That is a great tune! Thanks for putting me on to it, yes this sub genre has been growing like crazy recently. I think in part because of the mixes being posted on RUclips. Thanks for the compliment fam! Very glad you enjoyed the video, grateful that you took the time to comment those positive words
How this happened? I'm talking about the return from d&b and jungle. Til 2021 almost nobody liked these genres. They were kinda underground, except at the UK.
I think due to the fast paced nature of the genre, also the saturation of other genres. People getting tired of hearing the same things over and over again. Also the early rise of Pinkpantheress affected this, introducing younger people to these genres. As for this particular sub genre, people enjoy the nostalgia they felt when hearing these. Hence why so many mixes have appeared on RUclips
You’re very welcome my friend! Glad this could be of help :) I’ll have lots more videos coming soon, but feel free to check out some of the other ones on my page

First thing I thought was Ridge Racer Type4. Hands down one of my favorite race games of all time, and one of the huge things for me was music, I loved playing RRT4 not only for the game itself, as it was quite short and as many games back then, always the same track orders and always on the same storyline regardless of the team you picked, but it had great dynamics and it was one of the few that got good drift mechanics, sorry got let go for a second by good memories 😅… I loved playing the game for the pleasure of the music, which was a lot of jungle, Japanese style, but jungle nonetheless, which Need For Speed 4 also had some and caused the same effect on me, I just wanted to race and listen to awesome music. Good video! Almost forgot, you brought all that nostalgia of Windows 98! 1k points for that also.

I'm as much a producer as someone who's gone for a few games of 5-a-side could call themselves a pro footballer, but this has really given me a little kick to make another attempt at it. Very concise, to the point and informative. Amazing work mate thank you, glad to see it's done really well you certainly deserve the attention. Look forward to checking more of your content!
What a lovely comment to read, thank you!
Everyone starts from knowing very little to nothing mate. Self teaching/learning is the best way, if you go to college or study it aswell as do it as your passion/hobby you’ll pick things up over the years. Just because you haven’t released anything doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t a pro.
@@Deleted11100 I actually did manage to luck out and release an EP with an artist I look up to on remix duties a few years ago while I was learning and collaborating with friends, but unfortunately life and health reasons put a stop to it for a long time. I'm feeling it coming back though mate! I'm all over the shop but I've made it a goal to get at least one track finished again this year and see where it goes from there. Just finding the space and time is always an obstacle
Man this windows interface is rad. Wicked tutorial 😄🙏🏻
Wow.... I’ve been subscribed to you for multiple years, so thanks for even acknowledging this. This was such a full circle moment. Thanks for your kind words and I would love to connect with you in the future
@@christhescientist Happy I found your channel, your work is awesome! Keep it up and don't be shy to reach out 🙏🏻
Would love to see this channel grow with quality video like this
Thanks a lot, there's so much stuff I want to upload. Really looking forward to these next few videos and hopefully building a community.
Thanks for the kind comment, I really appreciate it and will have lots more coming soon :)
I was like subscriber #162 lol dude's got nearly 50k now
beautiful aesthetic and engaging editing/presentation all around. I watched this video earlier while slightly distracted, but after rewatching it just now with my full attention I absolutely had to subscribe haha, looking forward to future videos! :)
Wow thanks for such a lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed it fam. Making sure the videos are fun to watch is something I care about a lot, so I really appreciate you commenting on that. Definitely, I’ll have a lot more videos coming soon, currently working on my next one as we speak.
Thank you for subscribing and engaging in my little community :)
The man, the myth, the legend. Well done on the video bro
Thank you my Brother, glad to have support from someone as knowledgeable as yourself. More coming very soon!
Producer side of the Internet checking in, this is cool as fuck
Producers unite! Thanks for the kind words fam
OMG Thank you for some finaly watchable music tutorials. This is heaven rn
You’re welcome :) I’m glad to hear you say that, because that’s one of the main reasons I started this channel. I want the videos to be easy to watch, useful and entertaining
Musician checking in and I COULDN'T find a satisfying pad sound... until that Morning Star Pad! Thanks for putting a name to that, now off hunting. :)
Also always happy seeing UK jungle producers and connoisseurs. Thankful the genre is still alive.
Glad you enjoyed it! and glad you liked the pad, I definitely had a lot of fun making that sample pack, so hope you enjoy
The editing style and succinct guidance makes this an A+ tutorial fam
Thank you very much! That means a lot to hear as I put a lot of time into making this as visually pleasing as possible, but also informative and helpful. So I really appreciate you saying that.
Thanks for the lovely comment fam :)
DUDE, ive been getting into this genre this past week, and this video couldnt have showed up in my feed at a better time. Great vid, cheers!
Perfect! Yes definitely get into it, it's such a fun sound and genre to do. I'm sure you'll come up with some amazing tracks.
Thanks for the kind comment my friend :)
So, I assume if I buy your pack I can use it for anything and everything?
without being sued?
All the pad sounds are able to be used in any of your songs and don’t require credit :) You can’t use them for creating a sample pack/reselling, but that’s obvious. So yes please feel free to use them in any of your creations
This video is what i was looking for!! Thanks!! :)
p.s. - can you make video on how to make tracks something like "Gum.mp3 - Cartz" or "Lomaji - Dancing Eyes"?
I appreciate how straightforward and simple this tutorial is! I am very much an amateur at making music and find these kinds of breakdowns so so helpful; it’s a very useful way to pick up some terminology in a digestible way and understand the “vibes” of certain genres without being overwhelmed by music theory. I also absolutely love your editing style!!!
Thank you my friend! Glad you enjoyed it :) I've got a lot more coming soon, so I hope you find the next videos just as helpful! Much love for the kind words fam
i’ve literally never heard playstation jungle before. I have, however, been super into retro style video and chiptune things so to have this now is a total blessing, so thank you!!
You're welcome Elaine! I'm glad this video reached you and definitely have a play around making this style. It's so fun and nostalgic
this is actually some amazing timing; ive suddenly become interested in intelligent jungle production, and to see this video pop up in my recommended is a godsend. really amazing video!
Perfect! Intelligent DnB is such a cool genre, will definitely have more vids covering that genre on this channel. Along with jungle, atmospheric DnB, Chill Breakcore etc.
Thank you for the kind words, it’s really nice to hear that people have enjoyed the video. I appreciate you :)
@@christhescientist hell yeah! hope your channel gets more attention, looking forward to your next video!
@@christhescientist I think you guys are mixing up terminology but unsure how :P. IDM means intelligent dance music so thats probably where you got intelligent from, but its also related to techno and not jungle although same era, but theres nothing coined as intelligent dnb.
Nice tutorial, cool aesthetics, subbed
I would like to hear a full version? Or did I miss it lol
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it, yes a couple of people have asked about playing the full track at the end of the video, so I may start doing that. My goal was to make this as useful and concise as possible, so that's why it's only 4 minutes long.
Thanks for the kind words my friend, I really appreciate it
best way to make frutiger aero musc. :) thanks man.
You're welcome fam, enjoy!
Your video editing style is so cool! Also I like it when creators only tell the essential stuff skipping the unimportant details. Great vid! You will be big.
Thank you so much! I completely agree, the information is the most important part of tutorials. It was crucial for me to make this video as concise and as useful as possible, without wasting time on things that weren’t of use to the viewer
I’ve watched many tutorials these past few months and by far this has been the one where I’ve even engaged through the entire video
The presentation of this video is really really pleasing to me I love your style the old windows aesthetic fits perfectly
Thank you! I'm so glad you vibed with it
Beat maker here! Banger tutorial and such a vibe. Subbed!
Thank you fellow beat maker! We stand united in our pursuit of making great music. Thank you for the kind comment my friend, it means a lot and I appreciate you for supporting me.
See you in the next one!
Hey algorithm! I'm a producer and I'm here!!
Very direct thank you! Maybe if I comment Music Producer too, it will send more to this video. Hope you enjoyed the video my friend and look forward to seeing you in the next one :)
So much info in so little time, keeps my short attention span in check, more of these genre studies please!
Perfect! I think there’s a fine balance between too much and just enough, so I’m glad it was able to keep your attention in a fun way.
Definitely! Will have many more videos coming soon, I’m working on my next one as we speak :)
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it
Yoooo thank you!!!! This style really hits and I sincerely appreciate what you've done to keep it alive and thriving!!!
Thank you for your lovely comment! It's so nice to read positive words like that, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video
Man this editing is fucking incredible bro, and tops off an excellent and informative video. I can't begin to think how long it took to edit!
Thank you! I'm glad you appreciate it, it was a really fun video to make and I can't wait to share more with you fam :)
Thank you for the lovely comment my friend, I appreciate it
Thank youu putting genres i like into words
You’re welcome! Likewise thank you for watching and leaving positive comments :) it really motivates me to make more of these, speaking of which my next video will drop in the next few days, so feel free to check that out
What’s the Bpm 🤔
Shoutout to Algorithm I finally found my type of rhythm 🙌🏾♥️💯🔥 This is personal like I miss such sounds 🧘🏾♂️⚡️
Hey glad you enjoyed it :) and the BPM for this I believe was 170, but for this genre feel free to go anywhere between 160 - 175
@@christhescientist perfect ⚡️✨👌🏾
The editing, the free downloads, the pacing, the knowledge shared is all top of the line! Keep doing this and you're gonna blow up in no time
I'm so glad you see the vision! Thank you for your lovely comment, it was really nice to read
@@christhescientist glad to be a part of your journey. Your talent speaks for itself. Just keep doing you. More jams more fun haha
That bassline is immaculate!
Thanks John! The bass is such an important part of jungle tracks so I appreciate your kind comment :) Definitely was a fun track to make and I've got so much more I can't wait to share with you
Brother this is so well presented. Whole aesthetic is well crafted as well, respect
Thank you Rhys, that means a lot to hear fam. Honestly i appreciate your postive words so much, thanks a lot
Shoutouts to George Rennie, never thought I'd see a name I haven't heard in years come up in a random RUclips recommendation. If you're reading this Geo I hope you've been doing good mate :-)
what bpm do you reccomend using?
For this particular sub genre of jungle, I'd recommend 165bpm - 175 bpm. This tended to be where most of the tracks from these mixes sat. Good luck and thank you for commenting my friend :)
nah this gonna blow up
Thanks, and honestly even if it doesn't I'm happy with the views it's got already. As long as the videos are helping other producers that's all I really care about :)
With that being said I've got a lot more videos coming soon! Thanks for the comment I appreciate it a lot, hope this vid was useful
I absolutely love your video style. The aesthetic is just so perfect.
Thank you so much! That's such a lovely comment to read :) I'm glad you enjoyed this first video, because I've got so much more I want to share with you
Bro your editing style is INCREDIBLE!!
Bro I swear music production tutorials are like 25minuets long and convey less information, drives me insane!! Thank you!! 🙏
Thanks so much! Honestly that means so much to hear as I really care about the aesthetics of the video. Yes! that was one of the reasons I actually started a RUclips channel. To provide useful tutorials that aren't difficult to watch.
Thanks for your lovely comment my friend
@@christhescientist I subscribed 👍
Bro, this is exactly the kind of tutorial i need as a beginner. many other tutorials have so much stuff going on. this format helps me to keep in mind the most important things. thanks.
Thanks for noticing, yes the way I've structured these videos is to make them seem less like a boring tutorial and more like a helpful, but entertaining RUclips video. I appreciate you taking the time to notice that
@@christhescientist It absolutly works. After other Tutorials i feel overwhelmed. After this one i just started making music. Thanks again for your work.
Nice video what daw are you using?
Thanks :) and Ableton Live
3 minutes of quality ⭐️✨⭐️🌟
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, definitely enjoyed breaking this style down. This was a lovely comment to read, thank you my friend
Gahh you gotta play the beat at the end of the video homie!! Otherwise love the vid, cheers
super helpful thank you!!!! :3
No problem! Glad this could be of help :)
FRONT MISSION ALTERNATIVE Soundtrack - 03 - Jungle
I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion
Now I just want to play Jet Set Radio.
An absolute classic, that inspired a lot of the music I'm talking about in this video
i love & listen to this genre - don’t make music myself, but was interesting to watch!! (Video was in my RUclips recommended)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your kind comment my friend
@@christhescientist 🤙 surprise us :)
tbh i think the EQ part is always the most underrated part of mixing music. making sure there's room for all frequencies kind of changes how one would view music production. for me at least
Good point, yes definitely an important aspect and something that can really change the sounds
"Tracks in this style use ethereal sounding pads" especially the... dreamcast, and... playstation... ones
i love the win95 look of the video
you’re the goat for this, quick and very thorough video
Mm. Well I’m both a music producer (I think) and on gaming yt (I think). So I think you’ve hit your target audience
Perfect! I hope you enjoyed the video fam, it was so fun to make and there's so much more I look forward to sharing with you. Thank you for commenting and engaging in the little community I have here
I subbed bro💪🔥Could you do more videos breaking down how to make beats in obscure genres? The more unique the better💯This is fascinating
Yes my friend much more coming soon! There's a lot I want to cover on this channel, including several sub genres of music. So stay tuned! Much more coming soon. Thank you for subscribing to me I appreciate it
in my quest to explore making video game music this is so freaking awesome and helpful, thank u and subbed !
I'm so glad it could be of help :) I appreciate the kind comment and look forward to seeing you in future videos my friend
It's interesting how stuff from our past can evoke such emotion out of us
I love playstation gaming content but I am very much here for the playstation MUSIC PRODUCTION
Mr Algorithm
Haha I'm glad you like it and yes the music production part is rather important. Thanks for commenting I appreciate your support fam
What program is being used to actually construct the tracks? I have been trying to get into this stuff but keep getting overwhelmed in Ableton, ProTools, etc. free versions.
It's called Ableton Live 11
One of my favourite things, sampling game music, sfx etc so this video was a vibe. Rate the visuals bro, will keep supporting where I can.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video my friend! Thank you for your lovely comment and i really appreciate your support
Awesome video. Really love the style of editing and in-depth tutorial. Got me as a subscriber now for sure
I really appreciate the subscription thank you my friend :) Can't wait to share my future videos with you
THPS 1 had a tune called Le Hot by Grand Unified and I wasn't even aware that it was part of it's own micro-niche movement! Sick video mate
That is a great tune! Thanks for putting me on to it, yes this sub genre has been growing like crazy recently. I think in part because of the mixes being posted on RUclips. Thanks for the compliment fam! Very glad you enjoyed the video, grateful that you took the time to comment those positive words
Damn. There's no way this is your first RUclips account. Keep up the good work.
It is! :) I'm glad you liked the video my friend and I'm appreciative of your kind words. This was a lovely comment to read and I thank you
How this happened? I'm talking about the return from d&b and jungle. Til 2021 almost nobody liked these genres. They were kinda underground, except at the UK.
I think due to the fast paced nature of the genre, also the saturation of other genres. People getting tired of hearing the same things over and over again. Also the early rise of Pinkpantheress affected this, introducing younger people to these genres.
As for this particular sub genre, people enjoy the nostalgia they felt when hearing these. Hence why so many mixes have appeared on RUclips
this was such a helpful, informative, and fun video (thanks for mentioning music theory)!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!!
You’re very welcome my friend! Glad this could be of help :) I’ll have lots more videos coming soon, but feel free to check out some of the other ones on my page

Nice bro. Love to see something new for a change like this tutorial. Cool windows theme too🤙🏽
Thanks fam! Glad you enjoyed it :) Appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment, got a lot more coming soon!
Good little vid man! Enjoyed it, btw just to let you know it’s commonly pronounced A-men not Ah-men 😜
Lol I guess it depends on peoples accents as I pronounce it that way. Thanks for the kind words
what software do you recommend to start ????? !!! gr8888 tutorial tysm
Thanks! And checkout Ableton Live, it’s a great program
SOUND FORGE. That’s OG stuff.
Very well spotted! Yes that deserves a separate video in itself, definitelty an OG program used by a very talented producer who we all know. I like leaving little easter eggs like that in the videos, you were the first person to notice and comment on that :) See you in the next one fam
This was very informative thank you so much for explaining this.
You're welcome, I'm so glad you enjoyed this my friend
Thank you soooo much! I always wanted to make ps1 dnb, but because of lack of knowledge I couldnt do it and all of my tries sounded pretty bad. I was searching internet for guidance for the ps1 dnb style of music, but I couldnt find it anywhere! From all of my heart.... Thank you dude!
You’re welcome! Thanks for this lovely comment my friend :)
I'm glad this sparked some memories and bought back some nostalgia! Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it was very fun to make and I can't wait to share more with you fam
It reached me! I recently Downloaded the Crash Bandicoot 2 SFX pack from The Sounds Resource. A fantastic archive for these type of sounds for sure!
I'm glad it reached you! Yes that is a great resource, I check there regularly for samples and sounds. Great suggestion for the music producer community my friend. Thanks for engaging in my content and I look forward to seeing you in the next one! Much love fam
Been going back through some PS1, N64, PS2 & XBOX games lately and it honestly feels wierd when some games dont feature at least a little DnB
It's such an integral part of the games I agree, there's something about DnB and excitement in games that just pairs so well!
Thanks for commenting my friend!
Amazing info, thanks for the packs too. Great tutorial, instant sub.
You're welcome, glad this could be of help :) Thanks for your support fam
Wasn’t interested in making Playstation Jungle as i mostly dabble in Uplifting Trance and Happy Hardcore, But i might just give it a spin after watching this. Love the editing
Definitely! Give it a go for the nostalgia :) and thank you my friend I appreciate it
Music production is a funny thing. You can go from minimal 8bit beats to PlayStation being the core sound
Agreed! There's something for everyone and everything. I'm always amazed by the different samples and sounds I find in popular songs. These ones definitely have that nostalgic sound to them and like you said in your comment often feel like they have that core playstation sound.
Thanks for commenting my friend
This is still so foreign to me. I need to get a MacBook Air and mess around with Garage Band.
Dw, it comes with time. The best thing is to play around and experiment and each time things get a bit easier. I rememember feeling so overwhelmed when I first started, but once I learnt to just continue and keep learning things became fun!
You've got this fam and I believe in you
Not producer. A.S. in music engineering.
I like your video, and the Windows 98 look :D
Wicked produced, and I learned something. Thank you :)
This was a lovely comment to read, thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it and learned something. That's the goal with all of my videos on here, so I'm very happy to read your comment.
