I remembered being so sure of what I wanted to do in university and what job I wanted to work with when I was in high school. After having several mental breakdowns because I was scared if not matching my family’s expectations, I went to a completely different field. But even then, life took a turn, I moved to a different country, I prioritized other aspects of my life, and now I’m 28 and restarting my bachelor degree in another country and taking classes I had taken when I was 20. But I’m pretty happy with my life, because I got here making the choices that made me happy, instead of focusing on what others expected of me.

I don't know if anyone will see this but everyone has a different journey in life. For example, I got married at 21 and graduated college at 26. My friends did the opposite. At the end of the day, you have to be happy with your decisions but just know that not everyone follows the same course in life. ❤️

I returned to university last year at 24 with a plan and changed majors 1 month in. Its been hard and so much mental energy spent worrying what other people thought of me and my choices, but its all working out how its supposed to. I am so excited about my path and the next steps

  • @iloveyouuuu135

It’s so easy to think that “everyone has a plan.” When I went to college, I was sure I was going to law school right after getting my political science degree. I started studying for the LSAT my senior year and I was like, “There’s no way I’m doing this.” My dad was mad but I didn’t care. After graduation in 2018, I moved to Washington, DC, worked for a major news media organization, and I now work for a major hospitality company. No one, and I repeat no one has everything all figured out. Life does not care about our plans. You will find your path, and there will be twists and turns along the way. Embrace them.

Reading through the comments I realized how many of us planned our whole life and now we are doing something completely different.
Throughout high school I always said I was going to be an architect, I even took a bunch of classes related to the career; my parents were very sure and happy of that choice. Until one day I saw one of my friend’s proyects that was a chromatic circle, and that was when I said NO (mind u, I’m not very artistic); it was pretty hard to accept that architecture was not for me, that I needed to replan everything.
I told my parents about it and how I wanted to switch to culinary school, this was on my last semester of high school, and they said NO. That I was way too smart for that path. Eventually, I took a test to find a “new career”; and that was when I found my current career, aerospace engineering, completely different from all my other options.
I’m going into my second year of uni, my parents still question my choice, but one thing we all should remember is that it is our life and future. Really think about it, process it and if you still can’t make a decision, do not worry. You will find the right path for you, don’t be afraid of changes🤍

I’m an engineer that has worked w architects before, I think your decision is very practical and will still give you some freedom to switch up your career in the future if needed. Cooking and design can also be great hobbies.

I think we may have the same life? I had wanted to be an architect for as long as I can remember, when I started architecture school it really wasn't for me and I dropped out after 2 years and started an engineering apprenticeship! I have one year of my 6 year degree left (I've studied part time) and I have just started a new role in environmental analysis which is super fun. It felt terrifying to drop out of university at 20, but now I'm 25 and much happier in my chosen career 🤍

I went into university with the mindset of doing one thing for the rest of my life. I thought it was what I would enjoy and what I truly wanted. However, during my first year of school is when I found your channel. It is also when I added an online nutrition course to my schedule as an elective (I really didn't think that I'd enjoy it). With my newfound love for food and the way it affects our bodies, as well as your inspiring videos that motivate us to pursue the things we love and do it without regrets, I changed my entire life path. Hi Linda,
I am nearly 30 years old and I finally found a career I love. I went to college to become a dental hygienist and end up dropping out. Yes, thousands of dollars down the drain and all the years of studying and crying semi wasted but I rather enrich my mental health and what I like to pursue more. Whoever says "wow, she wasted her time" guess what, SHIT HAPPENS! that's great if those people can pursue their goal, congrats, but do not look down or even comment negatively on someone else's choice! Keep pursuing what YOU want. At the end of the day, it's what you want - remember that!

i once read that getting to know what you don't want to do is just as important as getting to know what you want to do with your life. don't think of those years as 'wasted' years but rather time spent finding out that you didn't want to pursue that career, time spent finding your own path. i had a similar experience, two years of engineering went down the drain, but now two years later, i am a third year business major and i am also a much happier accomplished and alive person, and i may be behind for many people's timeline, but on mine i am right where i am supposed to be.

I haven’t known what I wanted to do with my life for most of my twenties. I thought that the thing I’m good at should’ve been what I aimed for. I wanted to perform and I had every intention to be a performer as my job for most of my early twenties. But now I’m rounding the corner of 27 and approaching 28, and I’m in a team support role at an accounting firm and I’m happy with performing being a side hustle. I enjoy it so much more now that I’m not putting pressure on it to be my career. If I get paid for it, that’s just a bonus now. But it’s taken me until now to realise what I truly love to do as my job is archiving and information management. I love looking at the most mundane shit just because it’s old or it’s something I see every day that was produced however many years ago. I’m so excited that this job supports me and for the first time I really feel like it’s a place that can fulfil me, but I don’t take work home with me. But I actually feel excited about my job and excited about what my future holds in this field! I’ve never been so enthusiastic about work.

Life is really a mystery. This came at the perfect moment for me.
Lat year, I started uni, and despite my parents telling me to take a gap year, I just could not bring myself to (I have a passion for learning, so for me, not continuing with my education was hard to imagine). The thing was also that I had been during the last two years thinking that I was going to do Computer Science, since then I could go into animation, but it just wasn't me. So i don't know how but I applied to study political science, and I actually really enjoy it. However, the place where I am studying it is... I feel trapped, don't like it at all, have no friends, and just don't enjoy it.
So for this year I applied for other universities, that had a similar degree, and ended up getting accepted to some, but the one that stood out was one where I could study while travelling, and since I LOVE TRAVELING I was so intrigued.
But I am afraid, like SOOOO AFRAID, that I might be making a mistake. I am the youngest in my current degree, and if I continue I will be done in around two years, where I will still be quite young. However, switching to the other place I will have to do the first year again, meaning I will finish a year later than I thought. And I don't want to disappoint my parents.
This video has really help me calm some nerves, so THANL YOU FOR THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
I wish you all the best in your journey.
PS: Thank you for showing me how to make your pancakes (LITERALLY SOOOOO OBSESSED, THAT I MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT

I studied Biology for years wanting to be a doctor but ended up being an HR professional. Until I got my 1st internship in HR, I didn't know anything about HR and a profession called HR exists. Now I have 4 years experience and couldn't expect more. I get to talk with a lot of people, help a lot of people and spend quality time on myself and my family. And here I am starting my own YT channel as well.

    At 15 I thought I'd be a chef. I did a certificate in hospitality.
At 17 I thought I'd be a beauty therapist. I became certified and didn't use it.
At 19 I wanted to be a high-school teacher. Studied for one year and changed degrees.
At 23, I'm graduating my degree having worked as an Artist over the summer, and preparing to work in Human Resources at my top choice of employment. What is life?? What is a 'dream' career even? I never dreamed this, but I'm enjoying it; I found a degree I LOVE and a pathway that challenges me. Life isn't linear, our 20s are meant to be chaotic but we can't let the confusion and uncertainty consume us, instead, we have to lean into it sometimes and trust the process. Even now, I'm still confused - my life is far from planned, and I've realised that's okay.

You did not waste ANY time 💙💙💙 I took all last year off from my degree anyway and did something else. You are not confined to what you thought you were supposed to do or even what you are doing. Just keep living, loving, learning, and exploring 🙏🏽 THAT is what life is for

i had my second day at uni, and i olso changed my major so im starting from zero aswell,,, let me just say, i had my first crying session of the semester. i just feel so overwhelmed bc i dont know anyone, and everyone seems to be much more ahead than me and idk, i just feel alone and lost, and so scared that i made the wrong choise by thowing away three semesters of work in my old major... i just tried to put myself back together by trusting time to let me adjust and make new friends, but i was still wanting to cry and then this videos comes!!! literally what i needed, thank u linda for sharing, i feel so much less alone and hopefull

I absolutely feel this. I'm 23 now, I studied Media Practices and majored in Marketing, and to me it feels like I've wasted 3 years of my life. I've now graduated and I cannot stress enough how unhappy I am in the field I have chosen for myself. When I entered my second year I realized that I have this undying passion for nutrition management and dietetics, alongside personal training. I'm having to force myself to continue along my marketing path as the only way I can study under the career path of my dreams is by paying for myself so that my mother doesn't have to worry about a thing.

I know you shouldn't be under so much pressure but I'm healing thanks to you. I find strength in you and in your words and your journey. I feel so safe here. Linda, I’m so happy that you talked about changing paths because I’ve felt bittersweet about starting a new program this year. I also just finished up my third year at McMaster, where I transferred out of a more “prestigious” research program that was meant to get me to medical school. I want to be in medicine, but I wasn’t happy studying molecular biology and biophysics when my passions lied elsewhere. I decided to apply to paramedic school on a whim, and I got in and got to move to Toronto. But I couldn’t help but feel discouraged about stopping something three years in. I know that next year, I’ll be scrolling through an Instagram feed of graduation pictures and feel like that could’ve been me. Also, going to college instead of university was so stigmatized in my family, since they all wanted me to go to professional school or grad school. While that may be a part of my life in the future, I’m more excited about starting paramedic school in a few weeks than I have been to start each year at McMaster.

Omg so excited for you Linda!! I had a feeling what you were studying was going to be related to nutrition. I think it just shows that it can be beneficial to sometimes take a break from college to self reflect and evaluate what you want to do at this period in your life. It’s not too surprising that a lot of college students end up switching their majors.
