  • I was kindly invited along to a VW drive event to drive some of the latest models on offer. Seeing as I’ve never driven a Polo GTI before, I grabbed the keys and headed out with the cameras! Here are my initial thoughts…

    Great mini review mate ive owned mine from new since the end of may 4000 miles down the line and no complaints at all does everything we need it to do for our little family of 3 more than enough bootspace for the pram and plenty of room for the 360 spin car seat & having the 5 door is just so much easier 👌🏼 after coming from a 3 door 18 plate fiesta ST2 which was also a great car apart from the annoying little rattles from the inside of the cabin 🤦🏻‍♂️😅

    Good review, sums up the car very well without going into boring micro detail like some other reviews. I've owned mine brand new since 2019, really happy with it. As a daily it's pretty much perfect, very comfortable, nice cabin, practical, really supple ride and very nimble. As you say it's not the most fun hot hatch but it's definitely got enough to put a smile on your face. I took mine to the nurburgring in the summer and it was plenty of fun. The handling is predictable so you can enjoy it without worrying about ending up in a barrier. Good residuals and decent on fuel when you're not nailing it so I definitely recommend anybody looking for a smaller hot hatch to take one for a spin.

    • @CarFocused

      Thanks for the comment Barry! I try and make these reviews more about the driving experience rather than going into too much boring details as that can all be found in magazines / online anyway! It’s a shame a lot of people just assume these are boring, when in actual fact if you look at the bigger picture they are a great all round car. Much like the Golf too 👍🏻

    Im glad there is no crackles and pops. Much more mature feel to this car than the previous face lift. Better for late twenty year olds that arnt so immature they feel they need to race every car they see. And also wanting less attention but still cheaper thrills and practically with the recent size increase of the Polo.

    I know the engines had an unreliable rep but I think peak polo gti was the 1.4 twin charger. The polo, Ibiza and fabia that used the twin charger were very different cars and annoying that VAG trimmed the vRS from the fabia range which I think has diluted the Ibiza and polo into less fun variants.

    • @boycie64
      @boycie64 9 месяцев назад

      I have one of the twincharger Polo GTIs and I completely agree with you. An absolute lottery in terms of reliability, but what an incredibly fun little car it is. Truly captures the original GTI ethos of a car punching well above its weight… which has been well and truly forgotten with the present-day bloated ‘GTI’ variants.

  • @michaelb9664

    I definitely think myself and my wife made the right choice with a new Fiesta ST-3. This Polo does nothing for me.

    • @CarFocused
      @CarFocused  Год назад

      Did you drive one then? I think the only real way you can come to the conclusion a car isn’t for you is to have a good drive in one. For everyday use / comfort - the Polo wins it for me. For fun and smiles - the Fiesta all day 👌🏻

    • @michaelb9664
      @michaelb9664 Год назад

      @@CarFocused no I didn’t actually, however for the reasons of fun and smiles (which is exactly what a hot hatch is for IMO) is why I wouldn’t consider the GTi.
      I don’t think DSG has a place in a car like this - the next class up with the Golf maybe, but a I want a small fun car with full driver involvement.
      Considering how the future looks in the car market for petrol heads I thought grab a new ST while there is still such as thing as a petrol driven manual transmission car that makes all of the right noises. Now the Fiesta is being killed off so I’m glad we got it when we did.
      Your reviews are excellent, I really enjoy your content I think the way you’ve conveyed the Polo just further cements my own perhaps biased opinion of it. It just comes across as too refined and perhaps a bit boring and un involving to be fun.

    • @CarFocused
      @CarFocused  Год назад +1

      @@michaelb9664 mate that’s perfectly reasonable! Now is indeed the time to buy something like a Fiesta ST, because like you say, the days of a true hot hatch are numbered 😢
