2022 POLO GTI REVIEW | How Does It Compare To The Golf GTI? | 4K

- In this video I have been lucky enough to review the brand new 2022 Polo GTI and compare it against the Golf GTI. As I have a Golf GTI Mk6 it makes it a very interesting car to test and see how it really stacks up against the Polo GTI bigger brother the Golf GTI. This is the latest Polo GTI in a long line of these cars, for over 25 years the little GTI has always somewhat lived in the shadow of the Golf GTI and in this video I see if it has finally come out of the shadows.
I cover the styling, interior, drive and talk about its rivals. The day was kindly made possible by @volkswagenuk when I was invited on a year end range round up of all the models in the range. The Polo was the car that interested me the most but I did get the opportunity to test some other models in the VW range.

I’ve had this car since the 1st of Sept! Its my daily to work and my weekend car. It has enough power to take you as quick as you want but is a car you can live with!

I use a 2019 Polo Gti as a tuition vehicle to teach people to drive pupils absolutely love it and its good to live with day to day

They are a very good looking car! Not as common as the Golf GTI which is good.
You want a facelift? Cosmetic surgery is a bit risky.

I'm sure you will love it, I have the pre face lift (2018) and love it to bits, fun when I want, and practical when you want. All generations complement it , from young kids and teenagers to people in their 60s and 70s . I love that, too

Fabulous little car and look so good, a neighbour has one and I think it looks better than the golf in a lot of ways.

That would be interesting. VW offer so many options and sometimes the more basic spec is the more appealing. The GTI is about bringing thrills so doesn’t need so much.

They are great little cars. Just wish it was a little smaller, shame they have grown in size.
I loved my polo gti and with a stage 1 re mapping was super quick. I now have a golf r and belive it or not I doo sometimes question myself did I doo the right thing by swapping. I could of had a 2023 polo gti for the same price as my 2019 golf r

I think 'lacking in the fun department' is a bit criminal if it has aspirations as a 'hot hatch'. That does not mean its not a great fast car though. But a hot hatch should egg you on and make the driver take the longer winding road home not just transport fast and comfortable.
Yeah thinking about it you are right. The issue is we are now spoilt with hyper hatches. I’ve not long since driven an RS3 and a new Golf R. It taints your view on a fun hatch. I just compared this to my Golf GTI. I just don’t understand how the golf is more fun, similar power and older. Random. I do feel tho this car will sell in big numbers due to the build and the lack of competition. Cheers for your comment👍
GTI comfortable? I don't have one so I don't know but at my age I would think the sport suspension would just want me to take the short road home on these cr4p roads in Oxfordshire.
Do not like that Red detailing. Makes the car look cheap. Which it isn't

Problem with it , it has to be detuned to 207 ps to fit in the gti vag range, in polo form its not even taxing the 888 engine, if vag gave it a mid range map , ie 245 ps 280Ibs it would crush all small hot hatches but sales of golf gti would be affected. So every yt gti tester says the same . Its lacking top end fizz etc, thats the map holding it back. How many power outputs does this 888 engine have with different turbos injectors etc basically 200 to 320ps . Most folk will put a tuning box to keep warranty safe and have 260 plus bhp and 320 plus Ibs of torque. So these comparisons are pointless . Its no dig at you mate but folk dont get polo gti restrictions in the vag hierarchy .

Better Front end on the Polo, better lights, and the interior is better on the polo on the MK8 gti, new golf infotainment system is horrendous
Yeah agree with you on that! It’s a shame it’s so big but it’s a nice looking car.

He’s refering to the bit of the top, which can easily be removed and sprayed / wrapped however you like.
@@Danny-gb2kj Light bars across the rear of cars look tacky. Light bars across the front...just not, look awful. I'm either getting this or the Golf, but I will be wrapping that light bar as soon as I get it.
he means the white strip that lines up with the top of the headlights, i have a facelift polo (not a gti) and the light bar is lower at the bottom of the grille not above it, idk what that’s for and it looks ugly so i wrapped it matte black

Absolute rubbish that people don't want a manual box. I wouldn't buy this car because of this reason.
Most new cars sold in the UK are auto tho which says a lot. Can’t even get the new R as a manual.
Oh people want a manual box man, but we're a dying breed.
