@CookieMonster_ - Celiac disease means she avoids gluten. However, she also was diagnosed with HS so she avoids sugar and red meat most of the time as well.
Thank you for sharing your story and spreading the word about Celiac Disease. I know how challenging that can be to hear that news as a mom. My daughter was diagnosed at 1 year old....19 years ago. I was diagnosed at the same time. I had stomach issues for years, including those 'sharp pains' and went undiagnosed for so many years. I teared up listening to your son say that the sharp pains were gone right away. He's right!!! We feel better right away
As a person with celiac disease also diagnosed with the condition as a child, getting rid of all of your dishes seems wasteful and over the top. A good scrub should eliminate any contamination on dishes or containers.
My celiac was diagnosed after it was discovered I had not only anemia but also bone density loss which my doc thought was odd as I wasn't in menopause yet. But this is what happens when you can't properly absorb vitamin D or iron for example. Glad that Dylan's son is on the mend.
I’m 61 years old and after years of gastrointestinal issues I finally was diagnosed with a mild form of celiac. For years my “tummy” troubles were dismissed as emotionally triggered. My symptoms became so severe that the doctor finally went in to look with an endoscope and that is when my celiac’s was discovered. So, lesson learned; keep seeking answers if symptoms seem more than emotionally triggered.
I have had celiac disease for over 10 years now. Stayed away from gluten, however, still had severe rash and intestinal issues, anemia, and joint pain. Gluten is one kind of LECTIN. Once I started eating lectin free, the inflammation, joint pain, intestinal problems, rash and blisters subsided. This is a serious autoimmune disease. You must follow a strict diet or eventually your organs may fail.
I was diagnosed 10 years ago. I have chronic iron deficiency anemia and bone density loss. Right now I'm just hoping that the new GI doctor I'm seeing next month will take my Celiac diagnosis seriously. I have had people who thinks it's a fad, but I have to educate them on Celiac Disease. My family has been wonderful about cooking gluten free to keep me safe. It's something that I still struggle with. I did have a really good experience eating at PF Chang's last night. They have some of my favorite things gluten free. They are very careful not to cross contaminate food.
I’m about to get my endoscopy on Monday to be diagnosed or not.❤ I am 99 percent sure I have it but I won’t stop eating gluten until I’m sure. It’s DELICIOUS 🤤
Something that I didn't think of checking for gluten is hair products. I kept getting a rash on my hands and lower arms. My daughter's shampoo had wheat protein! It could be in anything! Make a habit of reading all ingredients in all products!
I believe that a gluten free diet can improve any person regardless of having a celiac diagnosis or not. If we want to improve/prevent GI issues, we should avoid the smallest amount of gluten and seek alternative gluten-free options, as those products made of gluten are known to cause issues overtime.. of course I’m biased because I’m a type one diabetic and never wanted to do an endoscopy for a diagnosis.. having one autoimmune compromised illness can increase likelihood for other autoimmune like celiac
My niece is very sensitive to gluten… even after going gluten-free and also getting rid of pots and pans. She still had a rash on her face couldn’t figure out what it was from. Well, they have a dog, and the dog would give her a kiss, and the dog ate gluten and it’s food. I passed it on to her so now the dogs gluten free thank God they figured it out. Is
I've lost weight, I'm already regularly under 115. I've had a loss of appetite, but eat so I won't starve. I've eaten various food and my stomach would feel like someone punched me hard, then kicked me. There's much more I yet deal with. However,no Celiac disease per a test in 2017. Clear endoscopy in 2020. Yet have issues. I'm also mostly vegan, about 90%, and not my choice; my stomach chose for me.
you would really think in one of the biggest cities in the world with the best doctors in the world it wouldn't take MONTHS to get him a diagnosis, especially since it's just a simple blood test....Poor guy. Glad he's better now!
It's not about location. Most people with Celiac are actually misdiagnosed for years before they get the proper diagnosis. Symptoms can mimic other conditions and most doctors don't look for it here in the US. In the UK though, where they have their NHS, every child is tested before they go to kindergarten.
The average time it takes to be diagnosed is approximately 12 years. This is because there are so many varying symptoms it’s hard to pinpoint. You could have 100 patients display different symptoms but all have the same disease. I was diagnosed in my mid 40’s. The doctors thought I had a brain injury, a tumour, MS, the list went on and on. I couldn’t remember simple words or names of people I knew well. My hair started falling out, I was very tired and grouchy and then experienced anxiety for the first time. Old age was the thought as I had no stomach issues. Tingling limbs, canker sores, blurred vision, unable to balance, headaches, the list goes on. See a doctor, take a test that comes out negative…rinse and repeat. I couldn’t absorb much, needed iron and vitamin infusions. Took me over 2 years to feel more than a 6/10. It’s an awful disease. Very challenging to eat out, folks don’t understand and because of the gluten fad many do roll your eyes or equate their non disease food preferences to celiac. Luckily there are many options available in the grocery store. Unfortunately gluten free food is very expensive. I feel for people with low incomes who have the disease. Considering 2 million Americans have Celiac, you’d think we’d be better educated on the disease
@@mccullochmike agree, I think as autoimmune disorders get more and more common, doctors need to up their education on them! I'm sorry you went so long without answers because now it's a simple antibody blood test.
Great information but she can help out her family even more not just Calvin by becoming whole food plant-based. It takes out so many things from the diet that could potentially be causing irritation in anyone. And the thing people don't realize is any type of oil not just olive oil or coconut oil is bad news. No benefit at all from it at 170 calories per tablespoon plus it ruined your endothelial
Glad this vid points out that celiac disease is very serious, and not the same as gluten sensitivity. Great to see Dylan's son feeling so much better.
My kid was diagnosed at 5, and is 21 now. Shes happy, healthy and living in the dorms in college. Its going to get easier I promise.

Almost 28 years old, and have been diagnosed for almost a year. It’s no joke!!

Be careful all chips, all ice cream, all cookies has gluten
What a darling young boy.
What a charming young man. Great job parents.
I’m glad Calvin is feeling better.😊
I value so much when they share a real case from their crew. Thank you so much 😊
I Love Craig cause he ALWAYS asks great pragmatic questions!!!
I was diagnosed at 10yrs old after years of suffering. Back then very very few doctors knew about it.

They probably donated them or gave them to friends or family.

My sister is experiencing this right now. I’m going to recommend testing for celiacs!
@@BambiBryant Good luck. Hope she fines answers soon.
He’s just so cute. We all remember when Dylan was pregnant with him.

Thank you for doing this story, and mentioning the eye rolls that come with mentioning you need to eat gluten free.
So happy he is healthy

My brother was born with celiac

Was he also seronegative on blood test ? Glad you found out.

Maybe the today show listened on the backlash for the stupid post they made on the "gluten free diet water" brand
I think we can all agree that nothing is more annoying than parents who have kids with food allergies

Oh poor kid of a millionaire who has an ailment that 5 million others have.
Shame on you Dylan for giving private health info about your child! This won't ever go away so his future schools, employers, etc will see this.

Who cares? So, he’s allergic to bread and donuts, it’s not like he has cancer or a brain tumor.
It's more than that. It literally damages the small intestine.
This is a chronic disease. if untreated he could die from malnourishment.
