    The film is not new it is Kodak Vision 3 250D 5207/7207. As far as the remjet layer goes they are probably producing it without that layer in the first place. However you can remove that layer before shooting it if you wanted to. You have to run it through a bath, dry it and respool it. Some motion picture labs used to do this. I remember that the cinematographer Gail Tattersall did this a few times as well as having the anti halation layer removed from Kodak Double X 5222/7222 B&W film (cinestills BWXX) and shot it in a camera with a polished pressure plate to cause even more halation. Personally I've only shot one roll of 400D so far and and when the highlights go they really go. Oddly enough I think this is technically reducing the dynamic range of the film so "Dynamic" might not be the best name. Still fun though.

      Interesting take. Im surprised to hear so many people say its 250D when Cinestill clearly states that its not. Misleading information like that opens them up to a tremendous amount of legal issues so I doubt they would knowingly mislead the public.

      It's probably ok, since Kodak produces this "for" them.

    Got myself some 4 rolls from the crowd found. Still haven't shoot any. Waiting for spring/summer. Here in Finland winters are bleak and days are short so I mostly shoot black and white like hp5 pushed 2 stops.

    I've got a couple of rolls of 400d shot but not developed yet, one in 6x9 and one in 35mm. The results I've seen from folks like you has me pretty excited to see what I get out of mine when I have some time to develop and scan em'
    its definitely something I'll be shooting more often this summer.
    well maybe. I've got quite the backlog to work through

    The thing is its not a new emulsion. Its Vision 3 250D that has had its remjet removed .

      @@wildechap Im not a contrarian so dont take this as argumentative but I have a few 35mm rolls here and it doesn't say anything about it being repackaged motion picture film nor should it be rated at 250. Theres a white box that says coated in the U.S. but thats about it.

    • @wildechap
      @wildechap Год назад

      @@RobbieMaynardCreates i guess it's not written in every box. It says the film was made for ecn-2 and can still be processed as such. I know it's not much but both 250D and 400D also produce the same results when shot side by side, at either 250 or 400 iso.

    "entirely brand-new emulsion".... just no. Did shoot a lot of 800T... Halations are fine, from time to time, but not in every single shot.
    Portra400 here in Europe isn't more expensive, and I would prefer Portra anytime over any Cinestill film...
    There are not a lot of companies which can coat emulsions by themself, Cinestill is def not around these...
    Cinestill is ok, and I respect what they are doing for film photography in general, but there is so much jumping on a strange hypetrain....
    nevertheless, keep up the great work Robbie! thx!

    • @RobbieMaynardCreates

      Europe got Portra 400 for cheap?? Damn, you guys are lucky. As for the new emulsion, I can only go by what Cinestill tells us and they say its a new emulsion.
