    Mulching sounds great , I use an estate car and if i'm taking clippings away it gets full fast . . gonna have to try this . I just got a 650v mower which came with the mulch plug and I really like it so far , best mower I have ever owned .

      I have the 650 v. I find it struggles to give a good finish on wet grass.
      Apart from that a great mower.

    Pro's and con's as you have already described Rob, but personally, I'd mulch all the time, unfortunately some gardens we do are far from perfect and the customers simply want mow, blow and go and don't want any other TLC for their garden so we do some which are quite thatchy and mossy, couldn't possibly mulch those and would love for the customer to allow us to scarify and sort it out but as I say, they are happy with a wham, bang, thank you mam. We mulch a huge property and have just started it, so have started on the highest setting on the ride on mower, and each fortnight we hope to bring it down one notch but so far it's looking lovely with mulching :)

    100% mulch and double cut when you can. Even if they have a garden waste bin, also I would advise anyone who's starting up a gardening business to get a mower that mulches. Great video for those who don't mulch. Remember, always leave the bag on though when the customer is at home 😜

    Agree 100% Rob. We have run Hustler trimstars fittwd with mulch kits on commecial jobs and could not do what we do any other way. honda hrx for smaller area's too. top tip, the bigger machines mulch anything you run over including hedges, reducing arisings to a mulch. leaf blower straight back into the beds. works good with leaves too

    I like the fact that you find your own method, getting the best from your gear and caring enough about the customer to make the effort to get it right for them. Wasn't a mulcher but this has made me think again !

  • @rusrad74
    @rusrad74 5 дней назад

    Yeah I mulch, like you I have the HRX and I sharpen my blades weekly. I tend to mulch on dry days and often double cut too, but I don't mulch long grass and tend not to mulch if there is heavy moss in the lawn or if the 'lawn' is more weeds than grass lol. I do find it helps on thinner lawns too.

    I always mulch when I can. Although one of my regular lawns on Thursday had gotten so long, I’d only cut it 6 days earlier, that it didn’t mulch well. I will be back on Monday to tidy it up and Might have to collect this time. But so long as you’re not removing too much height at once it’s definitely the way to go

    Lawn renovations I normally do at the weekend. Just saves stressing trying to fit them in the week.
    Mulching. You have to be careful not to mulch diseased grass as you could be spreading the problem.
    Work load. As busy as I want to be. It's never been about working all hours to earn every last penny for me. Home time relaxing with the Mrs is just as important. I try to work to live, not live to work.

      Very wise . Sometimes at this time of year there is so much to do. My books are now closed until November.
      I have been spending time with a local lawn care / treatment company. A one man company, ex green keeper. Top man.
      Shadowing him for a day etc. learning so much. Having to cram things in.
      Looking to have another crack at the treatment side of things more than I do at the moment.
      Have a great weekend Gary.

    Great video as always rob. Im going to start mulching some of my lawns. Soon. Although in the northwest ill probably leave it for another month as its growing so fast at the moment. I did the free feed with a bag i bought last year on just my worst quality lawns and theyve really come on leaps and bounds. Funny thing was i told all my customers so They didnt moan about dead moss and most put a littke extra in The bank anyway which more than Paid for the feed and time. Keep up the good work. Always double cut my small and medium lawns and my customers love the finish. Ill have to see how the makita battery mower does with mulching ive not really used it on mulch yet. Handles everything else the same as petrol mowers. Doenst like the long wet stuff the same as most mowers. Stihl and atesia being the exception.

    • @maxwellsgrasscuttingservices
      @maxwellsgrasscuttingservices  28 дней назад

      Thanks for that. What model is your battery mower? Does it deliver a good quality finish?

    • @swatsnatch
      @swatsnatch 28 дней назад +1

      Hi Rob, it's the makita dlm532 does a good finish although you need to keep the blade sharp. And it does struggle on the tall wet stuff but being battery it's a quicker stop clear and start than the petrol mower.. I don't think the power levels are there just yet and you do have to be a little more mindful of your battery life. I carry a small inverter In My car and give some a quick charge between jobs to keep them topped up. The blower is awesome and the strimmer kombi is top kit aswell. Just the spring wet big cuts it does struggle with on the mower side.

    Depends on the grass type too. Fine lawn will get diseased with mulching. Is ok on course rye, smoothstalk meadow grassess / poa lawns. With a fine lawn fecue / bent the density is so much that is sits on the surface and causes many issues.

  • @HardingsGardenandProperty

    I try and mulch as much as possible with the HRX or Husky LB, especially from mid June to mid August.
    Do you have to change the blade in the stihl in order to mulch or just insert the plug? I have the 756 and it requires a change of blade along with the plug in order to mulch effectively, which I always find a bit of a faff and a flaw in the armour of such a quality machine.

    Nice job.your videos inspired me to increase my prices...some are embarrassingly low.you may not want to say but how much do you charge for that lawn. Obviously it may have some at the front but I'd probably charge £15 for that back lawn. ..maybe £20 if it had a bit a the front...

    • @maxwellsgrasscuttingservices
      @maxwellsgrasscuttingservices  28 дней назад +1

      That’s very cheap. For a front and back lawn like this one, I am around £35 per cut. A little cheaper for weekly. Good luck.
