Ex cult member, this song hits so hard. It's hauntingly beautiful and speaks to the darkness behind purity culture and the patriarchy. Absolutely incredible
Thank you, that means so much to me to hear that
there's darkness behind everything. everything has ambivalent qualities. It's our narrow sighted view of one or the other that determines what it becomes. Declaring the patriarchy as "dark" is no less valid as pointing out the matriarchy has it's dark torturous elements as well. There's a reason why mother nature is a matriarch that destroys and creates. Just because something isn't perfect, doesn't mean its dark. It means what we are looking at, or how we are looking at it, makes it dark. Don't get stuck in the ideology of thinking how something seems is the only thing it is.
@@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse Let me ask, how is patriarchy good? And what real life examples do you have of matriarchy being "torturous?"?
@@frankiemillcarek6976 how is patriarchy good? Well, for starters, are you currently running on a treadmill to generate electricity to communicate right now? Are you using technology that youd never in your entire life be able to manufacture on your own? Are you currently possessing the ability, if someone were to assault or steal from you, something humans have suffered from since before we could speak, would you be able to call an entire structure of law to defend you and your property at a moment's notice? Are you able to spend money to get things you want? Are you able to send someone who tries to kill you, to jail?
Patriarchal qualities are, order, security, wisdom, courage. Matriarchal qualities, are compassion, liberty, truth and freedom.
Theres a reason why the statue of liberty is FEMALE and the founders are FATHERS.
What examples do I have of tyrannical matriarchy? How you seen the show Mean Girls? Have you been raised by a narcissistic single mother and two older sisters? Have you seen the movie Cruella or the Devil wears Prada? Fiction, yes, based on real types of woman. The same types who would construct a tyrannical matriarch, as they do by default with their personality disorders. The same tyrants of Mao and Stalin and Hitler, exist within the female population. Unless you're under the sexist impression that woman are harmless.
@@frankiemillcarek6976 is have to agree
Paris… you are slowly giving me the courage to leave my abusive relationship. Thank you.
Hope you work up the courage! Nobody deserves to be abused. Don’t let them control your life just because they lack control in their own.
You've got this!! 💕💕💕
We're all rooting for you 💕
We are rooting for you
You got this big hug
Good luck, you deserve better! ❤
you’re fueling my rage against the patriarchy we live in, thank you.
What does the rage do for you?
How are you helping society by being angry?
Also, how do you suppose that you destroy the patriarchy?
Is there a way?
Can you describe what the patriarchy is or its effect and how this was caused?
@@lethalslaughterband5498 this is a music video not an english essay
@@nicoaha1064 eh didn’t stop me from writing one in the other video.
@@lethalslaughterband5498 rage and fury has given women our rights, the slave can’t kindly ask for her rights she must take them. If you ca n nor grasp how anger and frustration move people to action and change, I fear you have never interacted with another human in your life time as anyone with any level of empathy could understand that if you are upset enough you will seek change. You destroy the patriarchy by first recognizing it and it’s sins, then you expelled those sins and those who seek to continue to commit them, through education, law, entertainment, and yes anger social consequences and unbridled passion for the cause. Your obsession with women being happy or indifferent to our suffering is the patriarchy, the patronizing tone you take to the Rae male side of your species you were born from is the patriarchy, your arrogance and blatant ignorance or disregard for women’s feelings and what can come from our anger is the patriarchy. For example feminine rage has killed and yet you don’t can’t grasp how this could lead to change. You devalue women so heavily you see our rage as something to poke fun at and not fear, you embody the patriarchy clearly in just that one comment but like always you feign ignorance of how the power imbalances throughout history effect modern life for women.
@@lethalslaughterband5498If you're just here to try and shut people up about their very reasonable rage against centuries of systematic oppression you might as well just leave.

Coming from Labour and now going through every other song. Every song is literally so good I’m in love
Samesies.
These videos are basically entire movies unto themselves.
me three, she's actually so good 😮
Labour is amazing I love this song too some of my favorites
SAME, I love her music now omggggg
same and I´m obsessed
The way I relate to this. When she said " Devil he calls me, he seems to be enjoying the fruits of my labor that came to me too young, when he stole my virtue, I'm glad it serves you that I was born a daughter and not a son" that hit me deep in my soul.
"I'm glad it serves you that i was born a daughter and not a son" should mean a girl who has been molestared from her father?
@@gennaronarducci1333 by an authority figure or a person in power, at least. The point (as I understand it) is that the fact that she was born female - a daughter, a girl, a woman - is the excuse used by men to take advantage of her. If she had been born a son, she would be much less likely to be abused in general. It serves the men in power that a woman is born a woman.
To me it gives the impression that it means serving in general as a daughter being a servant as a boy wouldn't be
Yes, it doesn't have to be about molestation. I was raised and trained to be the perfect -future- wife, I was told my parents fights were cause my mom wasn't a good wife. The amount of times I heard my dad say "you're future husband will thank me for making you learn this"
@@clarissarobynnlooovely…because it’s all about the men having a good life being served and serviced. Disgusting. I’m sorry you went through that.
"Screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing, and I will tell you now that I'm not even singing"
Those lines gave me chills
It's giving Midsommar and I love it
My thought as well
Yaaaasss
YESS EXACTLY
the visuals really add such a somber, bitter sweet touch to the lyrics. It's very sweet and just the right amount of shocking that take this to the next level. the girls who have been before her, teaching her the dance they learned together. "For if I'm going down, I guess I'll take you with me", we need more media like this right now. I love this 🙏💕
I’m so glad it all translates ❤️ thank you so much I’m over the moon that you enjoyed it we all worked so hard!!
My love, are you the devil?
I would worship you instead of him
I have no time for confession
For I'm too busy committing sins
My love, you're something special
I never met someone like you
You'd make me fall from heaven
But I know just what I do
"Angel", he calls me
Does he know that I'm falling?
From a precipice that I tripped off long ago
"You're so pure", he says
Does he know, I'm forsaken?
The original sinner
But soon you'll know
For if I'm going down
I guess I'll take you with me
Naked in that garden
Back at the beginning
And now in your arms
You're faithless, for you pitched me
Against your holy father
And it seems that I am winning
I don't
I feel your hands grabbing my throat
As you say
My love, are you the devil?
I would worship you instead of him
I have no time for confession
For I'm too busy committing sins
My love, you're something special
I never met someone like you
You'd make me fall from heaven
But I know just what I do
"Devil", you call me
But seems to be enjoying
The fruits of my labour that came to me too young
When he stole my virtue
I'm glad it seems to serve you
That I was born a daughter and not a son
For if I'm going down
I guess I'll take you with me
Screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing
And I will tell you now
That I'm not even singing
There's no escape for some
Least of all for me
I feel your lips kissing my feet
But even so
Oh!
Oh, call me a devil
Oh, you call me a devil
You want me on my knees to pray
Or play some other pleasing role
Never wonder
Where I must have learnt it all
You want me to transgress
While I'm in my Sunday best
And all the while have no respect
As you eat it up whole
My body and my blood
You've claimed it now, so come drink up
And there's no need to be concerned
About what's left when you are done because
You've got me on my knees to pray
Or play some other pleasing role
But never wonder
Where I must have learnt it all
Thank you :)
Thank you, this helped me appreciate the song as the story it tells.

Great lyrics.
Thanks so much for posting the Lyrics!!
This perfectly describes how it feels to be in any Male ran religion not just cults. I'm a Christian and it always bothered me how there was this expectation for girls to be pure but that same standard didn't apply to men. Jesus and Muhammad made no such distinction. Men from those cultures did. Sorry for venting in the comments 🙏
Well in Orthodoxy☦ we also have the Theotokos(Mother of God) who is a center figure in our religion❤
@@mary5177 really didn't expect to find an Orthodox in the comments section. Men are also expected to be pure, Ukiko...A saintly life is for both men and women, and just because the majority of people don't acts as such, doesn't make it less of an expectation for us before Christ.
@@somevids4187 yes i know.....the Mother of God is an example for everybody through her kindness sacrafice and life....the idea is:we must have dicerment in everything and also i dont find orthodoxy to be a male centered religion since we have a lot of women who are saints....May the Lord bless you!!!☦❤
As a Christian I feel obliged to point out that that’s actually a huge and harmful misconception. It is meant to apply to both men and women, and it’s not about purity, but about sex being a special thing you only share with your life partner. I’m sorry that your church has failed to see that and is spreading that lie.
@@empressofdragons18 unfortunately religion is about the worst thing that humans have released on each other. It's done more damage and killed more people than pretty much anything else. Especially when someone thinks that their 'god' is more important than the 3500 or so other gods that have been invented over tens of thousands of years. It's all just a method of control and thankfully more people are starting to be educated to the point that fear is not the guiding factor in their life anymore.
If a man ever asked me to explain womanhood to him, i‘d show him your music and your videos. They speak to me on such a fundamental level
an actual piece of art. looks like a painting. i love the vibes, it's both fairy-like and witchy ✨
I love just how the video is using carefree motives and colours that scream innocence, and yet you can feel the darkness. It's amazing and just how it captures perfectly this surface - level feeling of happiness and innocence, but there is this unsettling feeling oozing from the video that below this illusion of innocene and hapiness there is this darkness, evil whisper that gets stronger. A masterpiece.
This hits really hard as a feminine bodied person. What got my attention though was that the dancers looked as if they were in the process of being overcome by flora. It reminded me of the Greek myth about the nymph who begged the gods to turn her into a laurel tree to escape Apollo. It's as if the dancers would prefer losing their lives/humanity over the trauma assault brings
💯
feminine body person? did we forget the word woman?
@@lisa-rr7st if they're saying "femenine bodied" is because they're not a woman, did you forgot to use your brain?

I'm big fan my brysonscoott I am my I'm using her RUclips mom
I could watch this forever, it felt simultaneously shocking and comforting. And the set is absolutely stunning!!! Towards the end “you want me on my knees” I began thinking of Artemis leading her girls into battle and felt such a strong kinship with the ones shown. I rarely watch music videos because so many are storyless dancing that just doesn’t appeal to me but this, once again, resembles Hozier vibe of otherworldly magic, unapologetically calling the church out while showing what could be if they weren’t in the seat of power. This was so beautiful, so evocative, I can’t wait to see what else Paris releases ❤️✌🏼
im so glad that your newest song "labour" is circling tiktok because i would never have found you otherwise.
this song is so wistful yet vengeful and i can't help but be drawn to it!
it's non vengeance is in vengeance, in that we fight to fight, yet not to bleed aloud

After dealing with religious trauma and the inherent guilt for being a woman that comes with it, I am in love with all of your songs. They feel like a battle cry and I'm ready to stand up with my sisters!
The symbolism in this is so subtle and good, I really had to comment. At the end, it's the women with other flowers in their hair adding the first white flower to her crown of laurels. An acknowledgement, the sadness and mindlessness to the women's faces when they dance around her, because they know it is something that just keeps going on and on and on. So upsetting.
This is so captivating! The purity and sweetness juxtaposed with the somber, almost ominous quality really draws on the feeling of struggling to break through the confines of the patriarchy and religious oppression. Thank you for creating this brilliant piece of art 💕
I'm late to the party, but I am utterly entranced by this song and video. I had just discovered Labour recently and am firmly now a fan. Your music and the themes of your videos speak directly to my Pagan, traumatized-but-healing soul, and your music will be a firm fixture in my life. ❤
We talk about how this represents women from past generations, but this still happens today... My mother lives exactly like this... And I love her so much for doing everything she can to help me avoid her situation, even though she can't even work a job because of all the labour she has to do. It's a full time job.
This song sounds like a response to Hozier's Take Me To Church in my personal humble opinion.
The timing for this release couldn't have been better I swear. Amazing song.
Just realized this gives huge Midsommar vibes and I LOVE IT
This song has awakened my soul, given me clarity from my religious background. Not everything is at it seems. Absolute genius ❤
I first heard her song “labour” now I’m here, her music is breathtaking, the lyrics and the style is so beautiful. wow. I know she’s going to blow up someday.
It's simply one of the best songs I've ever heard, so perfect
it's giving midsomar in a good way this is beautifull!
This is fully giving me Greek myth Pleiades vibes. Absolutely love this song and it’s power.
Hear me out, a Paris Paloma and Kiki Rockwell collab would be top tier
Doing trauma therapy for CSA and SA right now, this song has been my anthem and my comfort
This song is so powerful because of how well done it is, the lyrics, the instrumental, your vocie and the video are also beautiful. OMG, I love your music so much ❤
Can’t believe this was done on a low budget.
Fantastic 👌🏼
the last part legit sounds like shes moaning, this song is a vibe man sick and relatable
My interpretation of the video. The girls we see are all victims of SA. They find one another and teach each other how to dance. In a way, together, they are taking their power back and comforting one another.
I heard your song labor so I was like “let’s try some more of her songs “ I do not regret it. This song is pure gold
I'm obsessed with this song! It's like a subtle waltz that calls for revenge in a sweet tone
Absolutely beautiful work. Your lyrics and voice are so hauntingly powerful and indescribably relatable. It is so relevant to the world right now. Thank you for putting so much work into such an amazing song. I can't stop listening and watching this!

Lmao underrated comment 😭❤
So while a lot of people have commented on the somber ominous quality of the song. I feel there's a much more underexpressed feeling of seething resentment and anger.
My wife is an ex fundie homeschooler and showed this to me and while I do not have the experience of being manipulated by a religious system. I've all too well seen the affects and lasting marks it has and I get much more of the feeling of hatred and resentment than I do somber.
You're the quiet roil of a storm, and yet it's always in the eye of a storm when you realize you're in the most danger.
This is one of the most captivating songs I've ever heard in my life
This is wonderfully done. It creates a melancholy feeling of comfort yet still being shocking. Excellent work!
You’re writing is beautiful! The song really feels like a journey, everything about it is so fluid. This is really a masterpiece. I found it at like 2AM on spotify and cried, partially because I was tipsy but more because the song is AMAZING!

I’ve loved this song for so long on Spotify so I didn’t even realize there was a music vid. This was pure art. This has inspired so many scenes in my writing, especially the ‘innocent’ woman to more sinister magic part. Fantastic! 😍😍😍
Just found her and I'm obviously hopelessly enchanted. The lyrics, the vocals, every bit of it. Now to see if number 3 hits the same. ✨
this is amazing. i was raised by a mother who went from being into the occult to being an evangelical xtian, and began being awful and hateful, especially when i came out as a lesbian @ 14 and then transitioned when i was 21 (in 1995 and 2002 i'm ancient in trans years lol)
and oof this song packs a punch!
so glad to have stumbled upon your music.
I’m sorry u are so indoctrinated as to think Christianity supports doing that to your child. Maybe if she was a better mother u wouldn’t have had such a hard time and been so hateful towards religion all the while glorifying cults. Maybe I’m misunderstanding idk. I’m not even Christian and this comment makes me so sad. I hope u are happy with your life and your life choices bc ppl like u are always hollow
"xtain" - look who's hateful now - it's YOU!
Wow you are really strong🥰💪
This song is my new addiction
Gave me chills the first time I heard it
Hits home for me , I came from a very conservative Christian home and I’m glad I left and found myself
There's such a quiet sense of rage and anger in this and I feel it so deeply. A still, whispered fury over a long history of crime and oppression that still marches along today; in the too-clean, polished suburban streets and the white marble halls of hypocrisy. Where they speak of justice like it's a finely wrought blade with a jewel-encrusted pommel, instead of the roughly hewn stone blades and whittled-to-a-deadly-point sticks; they think justice is a delicate system of skewed laws and rules that favors them at every turn, but it is not. Justice is the breaking point of desperation and survival. Justice is the finality of too much, too long and all the horror and bloodshed and toppling of empires that comes after. They mourn the bloodshed of this correcting scale, never understanding that it is merely the fruits of their own labor; the inevitable harvest of all that they have sown for so, so long.
The fact your music is such a vibe but the lyrics are relatively dark and carry such strong messages is amazing! Im in love with your music now!
Every song by Paris is always almost hypnotizing, and always beautiful, and haunting, and I love every one.

I feel like Paris Paloma really sings for us, to be honest
What is apostate
This fits so well.
Today...women are to work full time, raise their children, run a household, be the organizer...and somehow not loose themselves in the process!
Men well go to work, come home and "help" with the children for a few hours and are praised! But if the mother did that we are called lazy. We don't work...we're lazy....we work then we do not love our children and allow others to raise them. We make less then the male coworkers because we may want to start a family...
Grrr
Beautiful and somber which contrasts the bright and soft seeming visuals. I love the juxtaposition and almost threatening nature of the lyrics. Such a neat idea, I hope this gets more views!
I feel your music is underrated, the sounds and vibes you bring are very unique. Keep up the good work.

I think she sings about Lilith, the very first woman before Eve. Just like Adam, she is made from loam and therefore equal to him. But Adam wanted her to serve him, she refused and fled from the garden of eden. God tried to bring her back with the help of three angels, but Lilith refused. This made god angry and he cursed her. Later when she met Lucifer, he made her into a demon. And ever since Lilith was painted as an evil woman, who eats children and is the godmother of all witches.
