My favorite playoff run by Jordan was 1989. For those who loved saying that the Bulls were a "one-man team" then just watch as many playoff games in 1989 as possible. It felt like if Jordan didn't score 40pts the Bulls would lose. The Bulls were the road team in every series and won Game 1 each time. And they were the only teams to win a game (in their case two) versus Detroit that year.

My favorite playoff run by MJ was in 89. That was simply one man carrying a team and bringing them as far as he could bring them. That meant dropping 30 plus points each game otherwise the team would lose. In 1989 the Pistons swept every playoff series except this one. That alone should tell you the greatness of MJ.

@The Liquidator I already know about this particular season here in 1989, and what he was doing was actually stat-padding. If he so-called was running the point just as good as Magic, then maybe he shouldve stuck with that same role here in the ECF, rather than trying to single-handedly taking it upon himself offensively. Jordan never made his teammates better. Pippen was the actual point guard when the Bulls' dynasty finally took off running the Triangle Offense. He even made 1-time All-Stars out of Horace Grant and BJ Armstrong in 1994 with MJ out of the picture. The man was always concerned about getting his points throughout his career.

Michael was the GOAT before he even won his first title. Most 'milennials' who never saw him don't understand that, the rest of us do.

Randy Axelrod shut up. Look how he getting to the rim with these physically incompetent fools. Everybody as athletic as Jordan today, the game is faster, players are more advanced, even if they not playin defense, ball players don't get to the rim as easily as Jordan was smh

Hiest Ofoma smh you're a fucking idiot. All today's game is is just 3 point shooting, terrible fundamentals and mentality soft bitches who get worse at free throw shooting

I agree he is the GOAT, but I don't think he was the GOAT before his first title. Obviously his numbers and performances were incredible before his chips came in, but had he not won championships what separates him from a Wilt or a Lebron. So many of his greatest moments came in the finals and without them he still goes down as a top 10 player but at the end of the day the ring is the thing.

Hiest Ofoma - he gets to the basket because he was incredible, moron. Actually back then, the paint was clogged fool with no 3 sec. rule and they had physical play with hands and forearms on the body - and no ticky tack fouls were called. Today's game has COUNTLESS MORE DRIVES TO THE HOOP because the paint is wide facing open in spread offense every single possession! How do you fucking not know that? Do you even watch the game? Do you not even recognize how different positioning is in these videos with everybody standing in the middle on defense?
You're watching offensive HIGHLIGHTS for MJ which naturally means they are defensive LOWLIGHTS for the other team - anybody who thinks they know anything from highlights is a fucking idiotic moron!

RIP Chuck Daly, he coached his team to the conferance finals 5 straight years, 3 straight to the Finals and back to back titles with a team that was as tough as they were smart. Never a better defensive mind.

The Bulls this year weren't even supposed to get out of the first round, let alone even win 2 games in the first round. The Bulls almost beat the 1-2-3 ranked teams in the east.

  • @SECRETARIATguy224

For me the Essential Jordan games are
1989 1st Round Game 5 "The Shot" game
1989 ECF Game 3 [This game]
1990 ECF Game 3 [Bulls down 0-2, and down double digits late in 3rd quarter]
1990 ECF Game 4 [Bulls tie the series]
    1991 NBA Finals Game 3
This 88-89 Bulls team had no business even getting to the ECF, but it's just astonishing that they were actually up 2-1 in this series at one point, before Detroit just clamped down defensively and finished the Bulls off convincingly. Jordan's 89 playoff run was just hard to believe. That 89 Pistons team is legitimately one of the best teams in history, and easily the best defensive team I've ever seen in the NBA. They only lost two games in their entire playoff run, and they were both very close to the Bulls.

I can't believe how long it took the broadcasters to realize that they should, you know, SHOW THE F-ING SCORE at the bottom of the screen, especially during the final minute of a game. I can't tell you how many videos I've watched from the 80s and 90s where they literally don't show the score during the final minute of the game, so you have no idea how important each shot is. For example, Jordan's shot here. Were they tied? Were the Bulls down 1? Were they down 2? Etc. Of course, they show the score during the timeout before he makes the basket, and after he makes the basket, so I get that they were tied, but still my point remains. It still doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that it should be on the screen during actual gameplay. What if someone had tuned in right after the timeout, as they were taking the ball out? They would have no idea what the situation was. It took the broadcasters like 2 decades longer than it should've taken them to realize that putting the score on the bottom of the screen DURING the final minute of play just might be a good idea. Ridiculous.

Michael L I guess because most home TV's were a lot smaller in those days and in lower resolution video it would obscure the action to constantly show the score on the screen. That's my guess.

Mj is the best but if they ever got rid of the side carry these offensive guys would lose alot if their advantage. Its basically a carry and they go side to side and the defender has no chance.

No Mike was pretty fit and the games weren't even rigged. You see how pissed the Pistons coach was every time. The Bulls were always often 30pts behind in the mid part of the game and then Jordan, Pippin and Paxson would clean that S!!T UP by the last quarter of the game and this was with nearly EVERY team they played against. Doug took them to the championships and kicked ass, but they did fire him because he was so EMOTIONAL and Jordan was ticked off when this happened because Collins believed in more than the money, he was sincerely into the GAME!! He truly loved the sport and the drama of it all!! These were the best years to watch for men and women and kids of every age!!! Shame that we have never watched these game live or in person, but we were young and working back in those days and were just happy to watch it together with friends. This was BEFORE social networking screwed that all up of course! This was better than that Hunger games crap they've got going.

***** I only recognize the best. top ten is weak. is that the best you can do?! Jordan was capable of being number 1 but he wasn't. His ego got in the way. He could have manipulated the defense enough to get a record number of assists because the defense feared him more than they did John Stockton. The record number rings is 11, not 6. Bill Russell and Phil Jackson won 11 rings without having to take as many shots. your weak argument bores me. do not comment again. this conversation is over.
p.s. don't let me report you as a fake account holder. lol...
