The definition of premeditated murder fits this case since Markeis McGlockton backed up and took a step toward the store. At that point Drejka premeditated shooting someone trying to get away. Just because it took seconds doesn't mean premeditation was not involved. Manslaughter is a slap on the wrist for this crime. Welcome to Florida.

I am so glad Drejka was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years. But I have to say, this prosecutor was easy to dislike. He was so angry, seemed like he wanted to provoke a physical reaction from Drejka and his lawyers, and that smug voice he used when quoting the defense was so childlike, in my opinion. This has nothing to do with anything, but it kind of looked like he's wearing a rug on his head, but I can't be certain. I actually would have preferred if Drejka got more times. The taking of that young man's life, and the separation from his kids, is worth far more than 20 years.

Have you noticed that attorney's in other trials very rarely object during a closing statement? Even if they disagree they'll usually always wait for their turn at bat and will use argument to shoot down the opposing counsel's points. It's an unwritten rule. It's very disruptive to the attorney and to the jury who are being given the final arguments of the case. But, the defence have been up and down more times than prostitute's knickers. He says this is because McGlockton was coming to the defense of others. However, Drejka had never touched, nor threatened to touch anyone.

@Erik Perez, The reason why the jury made an example of Michael Drejka is because while he was being interrogated by detectives he lied to them and said that McGlockton never backed away from him and the video doesn't lie also Drejka has a history or paper trail with the Police Department which is a pattern of bad behavior and Drejka was properly trained in the CCW class in the use of a weapon for his defense and for the defense of others. Drejka is NOT trained to intervene in situations out in the streets like a cop and he was NOT trained to approach people to enforce State laws so the courts are NOT going to be tolerated anymore because they don't want armed citizens playing a cop. Michael Drejka made his own bed now he can lay in it.
