There’s a reason traditional army thought from centuries ago believed you needed a 3 to 1 advantage if your enemy was in a defensive position and you were attacking it. You learn real quick that dynamic entry, even with a high level team, will get mowed down if the enemy has any semblance of an idea that your coming... in force on force training that is.

    • @TheSuspectOnFoot
      @TheSuspectOnFoot 6 лет назад +47

In today's CQB, it's 6 to 1 compared to a traditional "open" area like a forest where it's still 3 to 1. This applies when the enemy is equally trained and equipped and knows that you're coming.

This is why when we deal with things like Fallujah in terms of door breaching and clearing. It would be really nice to have a heavy duty shield that is heavy enough to be moved in to absorb the bullets of any potential combatant inside. While it still is mobile enough to be used in that limited roll. Once you're done using it for the building. You can just strap it to the side of a Bradley or Humvee for ease of transport. It's save a lot of Marines lives but I can see where it'd be a little bit impractical as well. I just think a good old fashioned heavy piece of metal with a spalliner Could do wonders for taking those first couple of bullets.

My grandfather in WWII said room clearing was tossing in a grenade first and then spraying the room with automatic weapons fire. When I got to do force on force, it was doorways where things usually went south. First two guys got hit, blocked the doorway, the guys behind them hesitated long enough to pretty much turn the entry into chaos. We also find some interesting ways to defeat entry teams which I won't share here for OPSEC reasons. If you recall the Oakland incident, 1 perp killed 4 cops , including two SWAT team members with an SKS. The perp didn't respond in the fashion the team had trained for.

During WW2 it was very uncommon that there would be civilians present in an urban area during the fighting, and even farmers would leave upon the arrival of the danger. If they didn't leave on their own they were sometimes ran out by the troops, for their safety. Of course these weren't combatants disguising themselves as civvies and attempting to blend in with the town folk. It was a very different mentality at the time. They were soldiers proudly wearing a uniform with a conscious that would want to avoid getting civilians killed, even on the other side. When the enemy was headed for a town they would clear out the civilians ahead of time and take up defensive positions as well as perhaps set up ambushes up the road.
These days it would appear most of these low life's couldn't care less about the lives of innocents around them and won't hesitate to hide among them.

In the absence of hostages the way our military clears rooms is stupid. It risks our shooters unnecessarily, if you you do not have offensive (Low Frag) grenades and will not give your soldiers the option to frag and clear from the outset you shouldn't be in that country in the first place. Like most everywhere we have been for the last 16+ years. Civilians and cops are an entirely different and separate issue, i'd err on the side of keeping cops as hamstrung and disarmed as possible given their eagerness to use violence and tendency to use a SWAT teams to brake up poker games, child support warrants, or any time someone calls the cops on their neighbor because he is growing marijuana in his garden.

Thats because it cannot be done safely. Theres a reason the title says its a bad idea, and the door is called the fatal funnel. Unless you have trained enough to be able to do it completely from muscle memory, please dont even attempt it. Thermals cannot see through glass, wood or metal, and it can be hard to distinguish obstacles if they are the same temp as the surroundings. Night vision gives an advantage in the dark, but you sacrifice your field of view and depth perception.
Ashor Yakhnis limited penetration may be better for 1-2 person clearing and better target acquisition/more precise shots. Or if the squad is less experienced or unfamiliar with each other. Not recommended if the enemy has automatic weapons, explosives, or there are a lot of them. The best you can do is have a strong pointman that will make the decision of how far to go in, and everyone who follows keeps up and doesnt go past.

Since nobody is supposed to be in my place at night but me, I'mma light their ass up. Last thing they'll see is a blinding flash.

Trust me when I say thier is no perfect technique or tricks you can learn to prevent death or physical harm. This is why tactical teams wear heavy body armor and way many SWAT teams use a body bunker (shield). With constant practice and training all we can do is minimize our risk. Example wearing a bullet resistant vest increases your survival rate 40%. Pying from outside a doorway from one side of the door frame to the other side of the door frame decreases casualties 40%. The FBI reports that 40% of the time a perpetrator is usually hiding in one of far corners of the room waiting to ambush you. Get the picture? All you can do is increase your chances of survival. It's a numbers game.

Never been a fan of this incessant step off line talk. Most bullets will not exit the body in the same direction they entered, which completely invalidates that mind set. And your not really making yourself a harder target either, put that energy and brain power into putting accurate rounds on target, not trying to walk backwards at an angle, which isn’t making you as hard of a target as most would think. Not saying not to move in the direction of cover if it’s within a couple of steps, but the off line garbage is ridiculous. If your receiving accurate fire then the fastest way to make yourself a hard target is get smaller(take a knee or hit the deck) and return fire. If there is a piece of cover a step or two away go for it, but that’s not stepping off line, it’s just taking cover. It’s a misunderstood idea that stems from getting out of a kill zone. Just because someone starts shooting at you, doesn’t make it a kill zone and doesn’t mean you need to start skipping and frolicking to an angle away from the threat. Your going to walk off line backwards right into his buddies muzzle. Dumbest tactic I see guys teaching these days, well between that and the idea you need to tea bag your buddies shoulder when he yells reloading. It’s a toss up. As for clearing a room, there is a more aggressive version typically associated with an assault element. From a military perspective there can be time constraints, which will have you moving from room to room very quickly. You are correct, as an individual unless a time constraint is presented, it might not be the best to just go storming room to room. Doesn’t mean however that you can’t clear the room or shouldn’t, just apply different tactics. You will typically be able to clear 95% + of any given room before committing to that room. Begin clearing the room from outside peing off those corners. You will then clear that last small section as you begin committing to that room. This method can and should be used going in and out of any unknowns if there is a probable threat regardless, unless time constraints are present, even then just do what I said but faster. You can use this same method leaving the building, if needed. Unless the time bomb you planted is going off bringing the building down and Tom Cruz is right behind you. In this case just bolt through that door with aggressive abandonment.

Thank you so much for making this clear!!
I tell people all the time they are dumb when they talk about "clearing" their house at night, or "clearing the location" in any situation, just because they go to the range and shoot a few mags here and there... It is pathetic how many people think they are some sort of "John Wick" just because they own a pistol and an AR that they will MABEY shoot 1,000 rounds through ever. And not even while moving, not even while in shoot houses, not even under stress... Just flat range, shooting at targets and they think they are going to "clear a building"... It just makes me shake my head and laugh to the point where i can't even bother correcting them anymore because it happens just too often. People watch too many Hollywood movies, and think they could just roll on in and take over a building with their "tactics"... 95% of people who shoot do NOT have what it takes to even remotely even the odds.. And most of them would just get smoked, or become so scared in the moment they would just wait in their bedroom and call 911 anyways... Which is what i advocate... Unless you have children on the other end of the house to protect, then stay in your damn room and wait to ambush the intruder... Don't walk out and let him do the same to you just because you think you can... Stupid people man... Stupid people...

I know this is just some game but in airsoft as well, everyone is all tactical and kept saying stuff about clearing rooms but its easier said than done.. the one defending always has upper advantage. Thats why swat or military use heavy body protection, shields, different types of nades or even a drone and 90% of the time they come in to clear” rooms they fail lol, imagine irl

as silly as it sounds, have those people buy gas blow back airsoft pistols and go head to head with them. it aint real, but it sure as hell will open your eyes when you can barely hit your target from 15 feet away without the actual chance of dying, all the noise, ect ect.

To be fair, in many/most room-clearing scenarios that any civilian might conceivably actually be engaged in, the target will almost certainly be equally ignorant and fearful and probably not waiting to ambush you. But then again...you can't know that for sure until you clear the room...

If you did not get these all in one day and you may be wondering what I'm talking about. Head on over to patreon and search warrior poet society also a link in the description. There you can sign up and get special content that doesn't come to you tube or at least early releases of videos. For as little as $1 per month you can become a patron. However I encourage you to consider upping that. I personally do $25 a month. In reality it's not that much but I believe in the mission of the WPS and John Lovell so I am pleased to be able to support him.

I would think that even if you had 30 guys and there was just one jerk with a machine gun you are essentially forming an orderly line to get shot until he jams, misses or runs out of ammo.

During my last SWAT training before promotion I was the bad guy in the shoot house. Using simunitions I was able to shoot each one of the entry team on their first attempt. OODA loop completion was my advantage. At the end of the day they got to shoot me bloody (fair payback), those rounds found bare skin. Ouch. Flash bang or surprise multiple entries with distraction, works well.

Hi John, I find there are few if any reason for non-law enforcement to clear a room. I have also seen law enforcement (especially federal level) clear a structure they don't need to. If there are innocent people trapped in the building that's totally different. But just bad guy or mutiple bad guys containment works fine. Then you have the advantage. You have options. I also do not understand why the families of debilitating gasses are not used more. Quick, and clean. Yes some risks to the bad guy but you are going to shoot him/them anyway. I guess I must be in a minority there. As for the feds. Well they like headlines. Have to justify their existence I suppose, or they really are in it for the kill. Sorry this is so long

He is absolutely correct, that is why the Military Operations in Urban Terrain has a 80% casualty expectancy. We were taught that if the enemy is in the room and wiring for you, the first two people in the room are dead. That is why the SAW gunner is the third person in a stack. If the first two die the SAW Gunner dumps 200 rounds into the room. I was in the infantry and took part in the invasion force into Iraq.
