Worked at Mcdonalds where Truck restock blocked half of the turn after the speaker and window 1 (cashier) …. In order to operate drive thru we had to close off the parking spaces along drive through to turn it into a driving area and the driving area became a post order que for a single window drive through, but we would at least Make some attempt to mark it out and also verbally instruct those at the order speaker.
Every franchise restaurant in my area has a competency crisis. Workers are visibly high, give me attitude, or mess up my order because of the language barrier. Doesn't help that a Whopper meal costs $15 now. I wanna work at one of these places for a few weeks and see how the fuck they operate this way.
I have a theory, people that work those jobs are typically in the 16-25 age range, and people that age are the first generation that grew up in a world dominated by social media. So people aren't socializing the way they used to, and they never develop basic face to face communication skills. They also aren't developing any sort of motor skills because a good chunk of their time is spent scrolling a social media feed, so you see people struggling with tasks as simple as opening a paper bag. It's wild watching them work, their hand movements kinda look like a toddler that has to hold a drink with two hands because they haven't figured out how their fingers work.
Quickest way to set of Mark Wahlberg is to bring up his rap career as Marky Mark. and the quickest way to set off Ken Patera is to bring up the McDonald's arrest. It's like dropping napalm on active uranium.
I work for a soft drink company. So, I go through drive-thrus everyday. I finally asked a friend who works for Mcdonald's as a Manager. I asked her what is the deal with the service you get these days. She said and I quote. "Dude, Nobody wants to work anymore. We basically take any warm body we can find to fill the schedule." I laughed my ass off. And I told her "OK, That explains it. Cause its like a fucking circus. Just trying to get a value meal. LMAO." I feel for ya Kev! LOL
What’s crazy is I have a college degree in graphic design and now these fast food places or Home Depot are paying almost as much as I made for years. I made a bit of money in crypto and just said F it & quit during the pandemic. If I ever go back to work I’m going to be like Kevin Spacey in American Beauty and work the job with the least amount of responsibility for 75-80% what I made working late till 7-8pm every night trying to meet deadlines and making wishy washy clients happy. It burned me out.

Drive throughs of any type are supposed to be for convenience and to save time. The people who operate them are never the brightest or nicest. Why put those people in a position that's supposed to make life better for others? They just don't care.
It's pretty universal, I think, that quality and service is rapidly declining at fast food places because corps and franchisees keep trying to squeeze more and more and more out of every dollar. I worked in the taco mines for 4 years - the POS system could literally spit out a receipt showing you if the store was making or losing money, down to the current shift. I feel like it's really not THAT hard to take care of your employees, offer a decent product, and NOT charge an arm and a leg, but what do I know
As long as their franchise fees and purchase money come in on time, corporate often couldn't care less. The franchises are left out to dry, and if the service is bad at one it'll stay bad as long as corporate gets that franchise's money. A lot of deep pocketed crooks will own a franchise just to launder money through it. These are often run horribly yet somehow stay open.
There's a chain called Portillo's that has drive-thru lanes with employees standing outside, taking orders and payments in person. You'd think that would solve all problems. But I got stuck behind a minivan where the driver decided to let a little kid (probably 5 years old) place the entire order. It took over 10 minutes. The line of cars behind me was out to the street.
This is whatnthe dept of education has done to kids. When i was in my late 20s i worked with many people coming up (late teens early 20s) that couldnt do simple math without a calculator.

People are missing that the McD/CVS stories are less about Kev having a bad experience and more about when he called out their mistake they basically gave him the thousand yard stare or some long answer that misses the point completely. The problem isn't the service but that they don't think critically or care at all about fixing something easily correctible that's creating a bigger problem for everyone (including themselves) than necessary.
I had this problem at a local Burger King (in the UK around 2 weekends ago) ... was done dirty and had no choice but to walk in and make sense of it all ... 10 mins later I walked out even more confused and deflated ...
Tacobell is way better tasting and for you than McDonald's at this point. McDonald's is hardly classified as food. I get the familiarity aspect but its near the bottom of fast food options today and its not even cheap anymore to justify it. The $5 meal being the exception
The problem with that is they prioritize drive-thru, because managers get in trouble if their average times are too high even if it's not their fault. So they'd rather let customers in the lobby wait for 20 minutes to shave off a few seconds and sometimes you'll end up getting your food after people that you were there before.
That's funny I was just at a McDonalds drive thru and the guy was just plain rude and told us to pull up so we could give our order. P.S. I would much rather go to Texas for Authentic Tex-Mex rather than Taco Hell

Lower level jobs don't pay $hit anymore, making it hard to find good workers and hurting morale, and more and more service jobs try to get away with short staffing.
If you live in a major city, especially during peak hours, it's easier to go inside and order. If it isn't traffic getting into the drive thru, then it's some other bullshit like this making it a jarring experience just to get fast food.
