This song "hits me in the feels", because I've been that way. For over a decade of my life I spent being in love with martyrdom, until I finally got "sick and tired of being sick and tired". And yes, as an English speaker as my first language (I know enough conversational Spanish to get by, and now living in AZ I'm learning more subtleties, at least of "Mexican Spanish") I had to read the lyric translation to make sure what I thought I was hearing was indeed what I heard... and that just made the impact more solid. How they come up with this stuff still astonishes me, considering their background and home life... but they nail some pretty dark subjects in their writing. And I love it!!

In my opinion the lyrics are more than anything about stopping feeling sorry for you and saying goodbye to what torments you (your martyrdom).
    A great message!
The Girls are specialists in transmitting emotions and if in Spanish it is stronger like a storm in the desert.

Many, many years ago (Pterodactyls still sailed the skies) I played Spirit of Radio for a friend as they had never heard of Rush. He commented after a while that the drummer was awesome and never stopped. I get what he meant, the fills were always different and interesting. Pau does that in this song its not rinse and repeat. I think Dany's vocals really show her skills here. Ale as always is perfection on the Bass, especially at a couple of transitions, just candy for the ears. I am really starting to think that because they're sisters there is something special added and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Great song! I actually like that they did it in Spanish. Too many artists just roll over and do it in English. Further, musically it sounds like music traditional to Spain. It's a nice touch. Worth noting on the premiere probably 2/3 of the livestream participation was in Spanish. Oh side note. Reacter you may have heard of, David Heretic, just had a fundraiser for St. Jude's. Deal was if they raised 1000 bucks he'd bypass his very long request list and review the Enter Sandman blacklist cover. The ladies even made an appearance in the comments. (All the profits they make on the cover go to Save the Children). Anyways in 4 days it reached 6500 bucks. We were all like yeah 10000. But it stalled until last night. Somebody threw in over 8000 dollars to bring it to an even 15000, and David suspects it might be a certain 3 ladies we know and love.

When Dany sings "Tu vida triste, mártir tonto, di adiós." Man, It hits me. It's a different emotion than hearing Pau sing Black Holes. But, emotions flood during that final "Say goodbye" It's a tough call but, I might still find this to be one of, if not my favorite song from them.

You could almost say that is another reason they are called the Romance Languages. They allow you to feel the power of the emotion behind the words. The Warning has been doing that very well. Their three previous videos demonstrates the maturity of their sound invoking that power. This new one is just the cherry on that frosting because linguistics is not needed to feel the soul of the song. If you do understand the lyrics, it just makes it that much better. As for their instrumental talents, OSN you said it perfectly in previous reactions. This is a true power trio. As much as I adore Ale on bass, and love Pau on drums/vocals, I have to pay homage to Dani's play, especially at the end.
For those that are interested, these are the major Romance Languages (listed in order of most to least like the original Vulgar Latin): Italian , Spanish, Romanian, Portuguese, Catalan, and French.

    Lyrics in English:
Sometimes the obvious things are the hardest to see
You suffocated with your bare hands
When everything points to someone finally coming to rescue you
    You find yourself abandoned again
    In your martyrdom, drown
    It is your destiny, surrender
You try to find an explanation deep within your being
And you fall back into the void
At last you secretly realize that the pain will stay
It will be your new life of martyrdom
There is no turning back, you cannot escape the fire at your feet
And in the dark, you will lose yourself
    In your martyrdom, drown
    It is your destiny, surrender
Sometimes the obvious things are the hardest to see
    In your martyrdom, drown
    It is your destiny, surrender
    Learn from those who suffered
If you have to live in fear
It is better to die in the hands of a goodbye
Your sad life, silly martyr, say goodbye

Your usual good analytical review, its a great video, well produced.I agree about the emotion by singing in Spanish having read the lyrics I don't know that the emotion would come through as well. There is a video of them performing this when they were on tour in Argentina and it is worth finding, so not a new song but I think very much anticipated by some of the Spanish speaking members of the Warning Army.

I couldn't agree with you more about certain languages and their impact when songs are sung in them.
And I wrote something very similar earlier today to one of your colleagues about this song here. Some songs don't need to be analysed down to the last detail, you just let them sink in. And this song belongs to exactly that category for me. Both the instrumental and especially the vocals have a strong emotional vibe, even if you don't directly understand what it's actually about.
And at this point a big thank you for including Band-Maid as an example, because for me Saiki (together with Miku) has also a very special way of conveying emotions through her singing in Japanese without me directly understanding the lyrics. The vocals are just as important as the instrumental part, which is why I love this band. But maybe I'm just imagining it, because I have a general affinity for Japan and its culture. I don't know. 🤷🏻😏
Anyway, thanks for another great video on TW and greetings from Germany! 🙏🏻

Could not have said it any better myself. I don't speak Spanish but that does not stop me loving and feeling the passion. Your native tongue is something very special. I'm Welsh and feel honoured I can speak Welsh, it's my first language. Singing in Welsh is tricky without sounding cheesy. In English you can make any sentence up you want and the word still flow together. In Welsh that doesn't work. But singing the national anthem before a international rugby match then boy there is nothing like it. So when I heard this song I could hear and relate to that passion. This might be better than Choke and Evolve which are both great songs. They did warn us that Choke wasn't the best song on the EP/album. Boy did they tell the truth. Which is refreshing because bands do oversell their new material and when the album is released what they said doesn't always match up with the songs. I'm really looking forward to the new EP and the next one.

You make a good point about the emotional connection when artist sing in their native language. I was just thinking about this when thinking about why I've come to like Maneskin's Italian language songs better than their English language songs. Of course it helps that Italian (like Spanish) simply lends itself to more poetic lyrics than English, even in rock music.

It's funny, for me as mexican the first two or three times a listened to this song sounded weird to me in spanish. Took me some time to get it. Maybe is because I normally listen to rock music in english. For some reason seemed to me that the production quality was not the same, Dany's singing not the best. Like I said, took me a while. Can't say why, maybe because of my predjuices, don't know. Me explico.

OSN as a second view of your analysis it comes to me that the lyrics (even not straight forward in Spanish) got a meaning about the martyrdom that is to look for your destiny and follow your own path. Take for example them: they had to sacrifice most of their youth and late childhood in order to pursue their dream, which at some point it was a pain in The ass nit to go to school often and hang out with friends all the time and even not to have a love relationship even there was someone they liked but to keep going forward in their goal. Wich for most if us.... And I'm sure they were told more than once from relatives and friends: " you"re acting like a martyr, leave that thing you do". I believe that's rhe meaning of the song (but it could be different to any one also).

That is kinda odd since they themselves say all the time they enjoy and feel more free and comfortable writing songs in English, but you may have a point in the Spanish language itself being more passionate, can't challenge that part.

I originally saw this when you first posted it. I learned that when Dany did the first recording of the vocal. Pau said Noooo. Dany had dung the Spanish with an English accent. 😂
What happened to you and TW? They have a new song out May 12,2023, and a tour in Europe late May and June 2023.

I agree with you about Spanish, especially when sung by a native speaker, being a passionate language. Several of my favorite artists sing primarily in Spanish, I just have to make sure to get my translation nearby. A good example of an artist singing in there native tongue versus English is Opeth's last album, "In Cauda Venenum". It was recorded first in Mikael Åkerfeld's native Swedish, then he re-recorded it in English. On the more emotional tunes the difference is striking. I prefer the Swedish version, just again have to have the translation ready.

You are right about the lyrics. The music led me to believe there was something heroic being sung about. But if the lyric translation I recently read is accurate, it's really depressing and defeatist. Now I am actually glad I can't understand them as I listen.

It’s not defeatist. It’s a challenge to get out of the cycle of victimization/suffering. And it’s in a ‘tough love’ mode: “if you really believe this, you might as well just die and stop bothering those of us who choose to live.”

@@mmasque2052 Kind of a dangerous message for those suffering from severe depression/anxiety.(which some accuse of just having a pity party or being a victim) Unless you live with it, telling people to just get over it or kill yourself is kind of a shitty message. I don't think that's the message they were sending. I sure hope not. I'm guessing the message is not for people suffering and living in fear to just go kill themselves.

The lilt in Dany's voice is different when she sings in Spanish. One could chalk it up to the structure of the language or perhaps these lyrics, but I am not sure that is it. She uses more vibrato in this song, and it is slower than her typical and sparing vibrato use. Is it a stylistic choice for the song or a style brought about by singing in native Spanish? I don't know, but I do know I enjoy listening to this song as much as or maybe more than their English songs, and I do not speak much Spanish.

Here is a hint to why you like Spanish and other "emotional" languages for music from the web: "Romance languages, group of related languages all derived from Vulgar Latin within historical times and forming a subgroup of the Italic branch of the Indo-European language family. The major languages of the family include French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian, all national languages." The key word here is "Romance" 😉

As always The Warning puts out great music. Undeniably the best. This is a great song. But, to be 100% honest I would prefer to hear Daniela sing it autistically. To me the words would have more of an impact than having thundering guitar, bass and drums. Daniela sang the song Cielo by Benny Ibarra. It was in Spanish. It blew my mind. Martirio in acoustic would be mind blowing.

This is the one and only song from the warning I don´t like. It´s not that it´s in spanish it´s the music. Narcisista is in spanish but I like it very much, but Martirio has something to it that doesn´t resonate with me. By the way this song is at least two years old and I have seen it on a video from the latin america tour of the warning, I couldn´t stand it than, nor today.

I've been a fan of there music for 5 years now and this is the first original song I cant get into, it does nothing for me. When they came out with Narcisista a few years ago I loved it instantly, very hooky and a distinct sound to it.
