I couldn't get a SIM card as the provider is not educated enough to know what is an OCI and kept insisting on my Voter ID.When I tried to buy a plot of land the same happened as the Sub registrar doesn't know what is an OCI!
The Centre says one thing but the reality is something else.
Only in Metro cities the authorities understand what is an OCI.
The Government should educate officers at State level about OCI status.
Even banks dont give interest due to Senior citizens .
You can give your foreign passport for those things

OCI is a convenient arrangements for foreign citizens. I can operate my business in India as well as in Europe.

Technically, the govt can revoke your OCI status and deport you to the country of your citizenship.
A few Khalistanis who kept harassing Indian diplomats overseas and promoting terrorism had their OCI cards revoked and their properties seized in India.

I am an overseas Indian citizen. I do NOT think people like me should have our overseas Indian citizenship revoked for simply criticizing the government, its policies or the country itself. Overseas Indian citizens should only have their overseas citizenship revoked if they are found guilty in a court of law of a SERIOUS crime.
OCI is not an entitlement as for a citizen and as such there are restrictions for OCIs anywhere in the world. In the case of Chetan he is being deported because he was making comments to hurt peoples sentiments and cause divisions amongst communities. As far as I know he is still in India and not deported (for what ever reason).
i think OCI is good but they should remove they agriculture land clause from it...
Criticizing is welcome but some groups misuse it and leads to riots .

It happened to some Khalistanis who were promoting a revival of terrorist activities in India and harassing Indian diplomatic missions overseas.
Their OCI card 💳 was revoked and their properties 🏡 seized in India.
Some had fancy estates 🏡 and lost crores 💰. Now they are bitter 😡 claiming it was stolen from them unjustly.

I am a 4th generation Malaysian Indian. My great grandparents hailed from South India.
Unfortunately we don't have any docs to prove they are of Indian origin.

You can apply for POI “person of Indian origin” card
OCI card replaces POI card now.

Dont worry too much. They are so many illegals living with genuine Aadhar cards. Indian citizenship is not that valuable compared to overseas.

Aadhar card - yes.
But you have to have been in the country for 182 days in a 12 month period before you can apply for an Aadhar card as an OCI holder.
You will not however be able to get certain benefits and services tied to the Aadhar card which are reserved for Indian citizens.
Just to get blody mobile sim card i have to beg people to favor me.because the intelligence of the ministry say have to put foreign address, not the indian address on oci card.Disgutting. Now a days, keeping foreign tourist in mind atleast, u can buy on passport. So those,,,,,,,,, charge u more on the airport, as usual, things are more expensive at the airport. Height of intelligence, i had wasted my whole trip to show them old passport with the stamp, because that light blue booklet (chithra )has no value. Wanted to take my mother to holy places, and she expired before my next trip.. India's Beuocracy is excellent.

If you need mobile SIM card you can buy at airport. They keep photocopy of yr Passport and OCI card and issue a SIM card. It can be top it on when u need more datas.There are Kiosk of all phone service providers.

literally just carry the document with you when entering through immigration. Otherwise nothing else needs to be done

@@priyer74 you need to carry your main passport along with OCI. Immigration officer in India will ask general question about stay but nothing apart from that if you have OCI.

So OCI is for overseas Indian citizens which means for overseas who stay abroad can apply OCI which probably proves that from india so with this OCI if I travel to India no need visa anytime how longer but with this OCI I travel to Bhutan and Nepal do I need visa especially Bhutan visa is perday quite expensive so this OCI is prove that who hold this OCI is overseas Indian do I need to pay at Bhutan 250 us per day or R's 1500 per day like to know please let me know Thank you do much planing to go Bhutan beautiful country ❤ Thank you

OCI is often misused by people. Many care a damn about the welfare of India or its people (in fact some leave India because of their dislike for the country), but have vested interests in owning or acquiring property/land or in securing monetary benefits. There should be a thorough scrutiny of all OCI applications and OCI applicants should be interviewed & investigated into.
"Some leave India because they dislike the country" Is it wrong to dislike your country? there are OCIs who come to meet their family study or start businesses. why can OCI's secure monetary benefits and why should they not have property? and not all OCI's leave bc they hate their country.
Most people leave India because of lack of opportunities. In some states educated young people hardly had any industries where they could work or for that matter any Job opportunities. Take territories like Daman, Goa or Pondicherry. What were the Job opportunities. People had to either go to the middle East on ships or the West looking for work. It is simply because the Government failed them. Much development has taken place because of the huge amount of remittances sent to India. When India was almost bankrupt in 1998 it was the dispora that was asked to subscribe to Indian Bonds.Though tax free in India they were not tax free in the country of their residence and most had to pay higher taxes just because they invested in India.

My mother born in india in the year 1939. Cant get oci, becsuse in those days no birth certificates. Has a school record and cert. Not accepted. Jokers at the london embadsy are rude a...sholes.

How to get OCI card if I am staying in USA.
Apply at an Indian embassy by surrendering your old Indian passport. There might be additional steps if you were born in the USA.

The term 'Overseas Citizen of India' is totally appropriate. It is different from full citizenship of India, where you have Indian passport, voting rights and rights to buy agricultural land.
