I purchased this case as well and found that it is not necessary to split open the case at all. Simply bend the tab back and forth that you want to remove and eventually it will just snap off.
@marufruma I contemplated doing the same thing as well. Being that the tabs seem to be very ductile aluminum, I decided to just move the tab. Altering the tab might be a little easier, and is another excellent solution. If you have a means of doing this and are comfortable with it, then by all means that is an excellent solution.
While this is true, I didn't want to lose the impeding clip, just relocated it. If you just want to remove it, you are correct you can just snap it off.
I actually brought my case to work and had one of the shop guys notch a USB size hole in the existing right tab. Your method works too.
