Wagakki Band is one of the best Japanese groups out there. They combine traditional instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians, and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, may be the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. Wagakki Band is the only other Japanese group that comes anywhere close to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura has more views than Gimme Chocolate. They are even better live as their stage shows are musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts.
The first song I ever heard from WagakkiBand was Senbonzakurai and I was hooked. They are my absolute favorite group now. Not long ago they even did a live concert with Amy Lee from Evanescence and covered Bring Me To Life. The lead singer, Suzuhana Yuko, sings in a traditional Japanese poetry recital form. She has been doing it since she was like 6 years old and has won national poetry competitions. Her voice gives me chills and goosebumps ever time I hear it.
Wagakki is wa+gakki, "wa" means Japanese and "gakki" means musical instruments. Also "Homura" meas flame. Inflaming intense emotions that occur in my heart, and "Akatsuki no Ito" as follows. "Akatsuki" means dawn and "Ito" means thread, so totally "Akatsuki no Ito" means "Thread produced by dawn".
One of their famous song is Senbonzakura, also try Tengaku, you will be amazed by the lead female singer Yuko!! Waggaki band is the best band mixing traditional JP instruments with metal!!
Thanks for reacting Wgakki band, your next reaction should be " Wagakki Band(和楽器バンド):Yoshiwara Lament(吉原ラメント)-Live At Tokyo National Museum", from your Japanese fans.
There is an old RUclips video of her wearing a mask with her pet cockatoo and playing the Chocobo theme from final fantasy on her shamisen. Made me laugh when I stumbled on it
Wagakki Band's been around since 2013. They're currently quite a big band in Japan, though they've kind of failed to break through outside of there, aside from a cult following. Although on RUclips, for example, they do pull in a crazy amount of views from all over the world, whenever they do release something new. As you probably guessed, the whole concept of the band is to mix traditional Japanese music with modern rock. The singer, Yuko, also sings in a traditional Japanese singing style called Shigin, as well as performs choreography associated with it. Stylistically, I'd call them more a "folk band with rock elements" than a "rock band with folk elements". Over the years, they've also experimented quite a bit with different styles. They have songs that have drawn influences from jazz and even hip hop. Yuko's the one who gathered the band together, although all members do write songs for the band pretty equally. And yeah, that's probably all the basic info about them. They're definitely a band worth checking out more. They remind me a bit of if you mixed early and modern Nightwish and gave it a Japanese twist.
You seem knowledgeable about the band. Where they supposed to open for the summer Olympics in Tokyo? I was reading a post, but it was unclear whether the person was talking about them or baby metal. or was it bandmaid? I don't remember. Do you know?
@@andrewpovey4916 I don't think so. As far as i know, it was never officially revealed who will do it, it was all speculations. I heard Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yoshiki, One OK Rock, Hatsune Miku. It was rumored that a girl pop band will be chosen (AKB48 from avex). Every artist's fans were crossing fingers, i guess. Wagakki band probably wished for it (Yuko almost confirmed it in interview, too early, imao she only expressed her feelings about it, not a certain plan). But i think it wasn't planned, or it was but something went wrong (not the covid). They were in avex label, who i know was dealing with the musical part of the Olympics, but last year Wagakki band switched to Universal. Also, they made two songs for some Japanese tv broadcasting for the Olympics 2016. If you ask me, i think this was like feeding the band crumbs, not a hint they will open 4 years later. So this may or may not be the reason for them leaving avex. Since they left, the chances were smaller, let's say. But who knows? We shall see, if the word is still on.
If the world goes back to normal, and they come within 500 miles of home, go see em - I did and it was every bit as good as what you saw & heard in this video.

Wagakki Band are awesome! These were really interesting choices for your first listen - most would have gone straight for their cover of Senbonzakura (ruclips.net/video/K_xTet06SUo/видео.html) and Tengaku (ruclips.net/video/Q2meWkWqc-I/видео.html). Those two have a huge number of views on YT for good reason. I'd add: Ikusa (Live in the USA) - ruclips.net/video/G2wr8I--ZjI/видео.html Hanabi - ruclips.net/video/u8ehD2yccTY/видео.html Cheers!
does she has some oriental vibes in her voice or do they actually sing persian style? sounds cool, would love to see this band live. must be one hell of an experience! and shes super pretty. first time seeing someone do a solo on that geisha instrument. freakin tough to play it I bet.
She sing in a traditional Japanese style using his experience in Shigin. That's why it sounds like that. Actually the name of the band means something like "band of traditional instruments" that's why there are 4 members who play these and in their concerts they all have solos.
Wow. Cool. Love variety of music. Great Reaction. 💝🎈 Please React to Katrina Velarde latest st home cover 'Somewhere over the Rsinbow'. You won't be disappointed. Thanks guys. Stay safe. 😍😘
Черный либо перебрал с фанезепамом, либо с детства за рэп и ненавидит всё струнное и ударное, даже всемогущее соло Бэни не смогло вызвать у него хоть какую то эмоцию
Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but Suga from BTS is trending since yesterday with his surprise new music video as Agust D. If you don’t know Agust D, it’s Suga’s alter ego when he does solo projects. The D means Daegu the name of area he grew up in and the “t” stands for “town”. “Agus” is “suga” spelled backwards. There’s 2 members of BTS in that video see if you can spot them😂. Here’s the link: ruclips.net/video/qGjAWJ2zWWI/видео.html

Would be cool to see Yuko and Su collaborate. They're both incredible vocalist with different styles.

@@Outland9000 Exactly!
And to think that Beni was the last to join the group. Almost an afterthought. She asked to join the band

@@ohcomeongetoutofhere So far I know them leaving Avex was simply because their contract ended.
