Have been using this controller for a year now. Haven't had any problems and Rekordbox has been getting better and better with every update! Love this controller❤️
Just bought one of these and love it...i learnt to mix on vinyl then moved to Traktor and had an S4 for a while but this is a revelation to me. And love how it integrates with Rekordbox and it now being on version 5 it's superb. I had a pretty fun and messy night the first night I had it. Great fun. And this review helped me decide over the DDJ RR...still watching in now after buying one :D
I just bought this controller and i'm lovin it! Also i love rekordbox dj software. The performance are amazing. I used traktor pro since 2012 with the s4 mk2 controller. But this is definately a upgrade!
omg, i just watched so many review which do not talk about everything, or talk slow, or talk like the audience never used a Computer before! super style you have in explaning speed an all that!
I'm not a dj per se but I've loved music my whole life and wanted to indulge that love so I've just brought one of these controllers 2 days ago. It's an amazing bit of kit and it's all abit overwhelming right now with all of the options and things it can do but I'm having fun playing around with it. I play hip hop so more difficult than with dance music but I've thrown myself in at the deep end and I'm looking forward to learning what I can do with this. It still makes me smile you can dj with no physical media, I grew up with vinyl and then cd but now you can do everything you could with those and much more besides without ever handling any kind of physical media at all.
Fantastic review. I own the DDJ SR and it works wonders with the Rekordbox 4. Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to get rocking on it again. Also awesome track. Thanks guys.
the should have put the browser button where the booth button is located. also there is no dedicated mic control you have to use one of the chanel the you use to play your music that is a negative for me.
is the RX worth it in 2023? I found one for a good price. Not sure if I want to get it though considering it may be hard to re-sell later due to the newer controllers.
I bought this controller after watching various reviews and off the back of the DDJ-SX2 hype train, and I feel somewhat disappointed with the product, and I'm surprised that none of the expert reviewers picked up on some obvious downfalls of the RX and Pioneers lack of consistency across their product range in general, like the games industry completely honest reviews do not work out well for the vested interests at stake. - The jogwheels are far too stiff (like a CDJ2000 platter set to heavy) so large jog adjustments are hard work (a big push results in little movement) and a full backspin is impossible, the resistance of the jogwheel should be at least 40% lighter. In general the jogwheel should've been a downscaled version of that on the CDJ2000s set at medium resistance. - The up faders have LOTs of resistance, would it have been hard to simply make the channel faders like those on a DJM900, the EQs/filter knob feel near enough the same as a DJM as you'd expect. - The headphone level and cue/master controls should've been placed on top in the mixer area, this has been mentioned in various reviews and was an obvious issue when contemplating a purchase, but the knobs on the front are not prominent, they feel fiddly to me and I have smaller than average hands. These are just the issues I noticed out of the box, before even plugging in the controller. I'll provide more feedback after some indepth testing, but at this point it's likely to be on ebay within a week, seriously considering the MC7000. Although without ordering it I've no idea if their jogwheels are any better, but lets face it they can't be any worse :).
Would you guys consider doing a full walk-through as this video on the DDJ - RR? You have a short version on the RR already, but it would be hugely beneficial to have Steve do a full review on all the various features
Hi I recently shifted from Traktor to rekordbox 5 and I'm totally loving it. I aspire to play in clubs with pioneer gear mostly so I like the idea of doing things just once but the thing which got me thinking here is that should I go for ddj sx2 as its compatible with both the softwares serato and rekordbox ? So I would like to know if SX2 equally functional with rekordbox like the RX ? I don't mind buying rekordbox license . Ive never used serato but idk rekordbox is still a new software I guess .
Hi Sarvesh, if you want the functionality of both programs, go for the SX2. While the integration might be a little tighter between Rekordbox and the RX, being that they're in the same ecosystem and designed for one another, if you think you'll want to DJ on Serato, stick with the DDJ-S series of controllers :) Here's our opinion on the SX2 - www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews/pioneer-ddj-sx2/
i like this controller because the color is a bit different but the problem is i am used of serato dj and its still the best software with me hope they will make an rx2 soon that will support serato dj.
Yeah, it's a great controller but you have to be dedicated to using Rekordbox DJ - not sure if they'll make one that supports Serato DJ moving forward, but they might! :)
this thing is great if you cant afford 3-4 decks. i play 4 decks dnb sets with it and its pure fun, you just need sometime to get used to the deck switch
I was thinking about buying the XDJ-RX2 but I hear people saying that it has a terrible sound quality. How does this controller or the DDJ-RR sound please? Is it true that Denon and Roland sounds way better than Pioneer? Thanks and keep up doing those great reviews 🙂👍👍
DDJ-RZ? Is that review coming? Can you include some sequencer stuff too. And any workarounds for using the SZ to get the missing functions on the RZ. Thanks!
For the price you have to pay for this expensive Pioneer Controller, why is the Mic XLR input on the same line channels of 2. I don't like that, can you have both Mic and Music on the Channel be used together?
Hello, What can you say about sound quality and is it any good comparing to djm 900 nexus. Have you had a chance to compare it to ddj-rr and ddj-rz and is there a big difference between sound quality?
Totally agree with the comment made about the pitch control sounding weird, it's terrible for using on vocals trying to match them in with another tune. If you go past +/- 8 on the pitch you start to get a distorted gargling/robottie background noise, it just renders this feature useless. It's worth mention that it's nothing to do with the DDJ-RX controller, it's actually an issue with Rekordbox and Pioneer have been made aware of it. I just hope they fix it. Sad state of affairs when this option works perfect in VDJ and not with Pioneers new flagship system.
+Digital DJ Tips - With regards to the pitching issue, this is the response I got over on the Pioneer DJ forum from one of their Pulse agents: "What kind of tracks are you running? With most software you're able to get to around 8-10% without serious artifacts, even rekordbox. Beyond that, I would personally use another software to perform the stretching for the best quality". Bit taken back by that response if I'm honest.
Really really interested in getting these decks but still not sure if they are appropriate. I'm 16 (Turning 17 soon) and have been Djaying with DDJ SB's for two years. I am bored of my SB's and want something more fun and exciting to mix with. Would these be too advanced or would they be just the right fit for me??
+Myrydian it would be great for you! I'm the same age and have the same controller (SB). I just upgraded and I didnt understand all of it but that gave me room to improve. Over the month ive owned ive gotten way more used to it and it has some awesome features! if you have the money its definitly a great uprgrade option!
hi quick question..if I buy this controller, what functions will I NOT be able to use unless I purchase Rekordbox DJ? I will be dissapointed if iv then got to spend another 100 pounds on software to get the best from all the featurs
Hey Alex, with this controller you'll have to use Rekordbox DJ (it's made for it) - we'd say look into the DDJ-SX or SX2 if you want similar functionality but the ability to use Serato DJ as well: www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/04/review-video-pioneer-dj-ddj-sx2-serato-dj-controller/
Digital DJ Tips thanks. quick question. how do i switch on the needle touch search function? In the video it is dissabled while the track is playing and thats how mine is but i want to be able to use it while queing ? cant find it in the settings
guys guys... I have a Allen Heath43 just purchased an XDJ1000 MK2 (1) and was saving up for the second XDJ...... I really like rekordbox, and was thinking about swtiching (selling my mixer, etc)... what do you think? I love the quality of my mixer, and the XDJ has been great .. but another $1,000 for another XDJ seems a little too much. this thing has everything thats needed... Can anyone comment on quality? Comapring it to the CDJ / XDJ series...
Hello, I'm looking for some help and advice before I buy some extra equipment for my Pioneer setup. I'm already running Rekordbox with my Pioneer DDJ-RX, I'm looking to expand by adding 2 Pioneer XDJ-700 cdjs to this setup but I'm unsure whether this controller is supported by the product and I will be able to use the additional cdjs as decks 3 and 4. There won't be any overlap with Rekordbox from the controller or XDJ-700? Please could you help me further with this? Thanks in advance
hi digitaldjtips thanks for the great video..just wanted to ask about the DVS capability, basically if you are sure that the controller is DVS ready when the software gets updated?..and also to connect 2 turntables it will have to be on the channels 1 and 2 which is the central ones in the mixer?..because it would make more sense having the turntables on 3 and 4 as the turntables would be further away position wise..(leaving the jog wheels for 1 and 2)..is that the case? cheers
+Hugo Nascimento As of Rekordbox 4.1 - it's DVS ready. For the DDJ-RX, it has CD inputs on channels 3 and 4 and phono (turntable) inputs on channels 1 and 2 - so depending on what you were using for DVS (records or CDs) that would determine which channel you plug into. Hope that helps :)
i bought a rx on the black friday, i come from a Pioneer ddj t1 and i think the rx dont have too much sensibility on the jogs, there are any option to incress the jog sensibility? (i see a jog sensibility option on the rekordbox configuración but it seems that is the same)
Hi I have a xdj-r1 and buy the license for rekordbox dj but in the performance mode I have only control of the deck's but not the mixer only a channel is heard the two tracks and the one in a single CH button to listen to the track Of each channel, it is only an achievement to listen since the other channel does not work and making the manual control from the device is not visualized with the diginal control of rekordbox, please help me to configure the program well so that I can use it to one hundred percent 😭
Hi, thanks for the video, very informative. Is it possible to run a Maschine as a stand alone to one of the channels without a second external sound card, similar to the way you can internally route it on S4 and DJM 850/900/2000? Also, this is probably redundant but are the effects post-fader? Thanks in advance.
As a new dj is it safe to use rekordbox? i have been using it for a while now but im worried if i end up doing big things that i intend to do such as festivals and clubs, will i be able to use my kit seeing as most other djs will be using serato and traktor?
I think it is safe, yes. After all, you can always use software like Rekord Buddy to transfer between DJ software. Here's some more information for you: www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/07/rekord-buddy-2-0-public-beta-launched/ Hope that helps :-)
I can’t tell if it’s just mine but I have to press play with the volume down (double click) before I can play with where I want it to start ... maybe it’s just me
can somebody help me. I have DDJ SB's atm working with Serato DJ on a extremely underspecced laptop (intel celeron & 4gb ram i beleive). It manages most of the time but it will every now and then stryggle with cpu power and crash. With these having a larger array of effects and channels, I assume it will need more cpu power. Will my current laptop cope the same with these as it will with the SB's, or will I need a new laptop. If so, what would you reccomend the minimum specs to be, regarding I will only be using this lapop for DJing, and nothing else. I know the minimum specs specified on rekordbox is minimum i3 and 4gb ram, however that is the same for serato with the SB's, and like I say this works fine 90% of the time, so dont want to pay loads of money for a new laptop if my laptop/a slightly better specced laptop will do the trick. Thanks in advance
Hey Jack, if it's already struggling, we'd definitely recommend a new/different laptop. Here's a few articles that cover the specs you should look for: www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/12/choosing-a-dj-laptop/ and if you're going for a PC www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/07/5-things-to-consider-when-buying-a-windows-pc-for-djing/
Does it have the feature that you can use it with other software??... as other pioneer controller does?? for example ddj sr by pressing play+shift + power button and after that you can change it with key lock button....
+ Brendan Ford hey, thermal for the info... what about the jog weels... can you compare and contrast their feel and quality with the cdj line? Or even de xdj, which is what I purchased
Can you tell me if the beat jump option has any bigger sizes than 8 beats? I'm currently on Traktor with the DDJ-SX2 but I want to move to Rekordbox DJ. Traktor has a beat jump option of up to 32 beats which is really useful.
+Callum Knight Good question, we mention this in our full article review: www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/11/review-video-pioneer-ddj-rx-rekordbox-dj-controller/
I know I want to use rekordbox as my software but I'm not sure if it's worth forking out an extra few hundred quid on these over buying a DDJ SR. I can't see myself using a 4 channel mixer anytime soon, are there any other features that might justify getting the RX over the SR? Need advice quick as I'm not sure if I should cancel my RX order or not
I own an SR. The only difference is that it's a bit smaller and there's no finger slide for searching through the track. Plus Rekordbox DJ does not come with it. That's an extra 139Euro. Still it's much cheaper than RX and RZ.
Did you see the new RR? Its due out un a few more weeks! I thought about upgrading from my SR to the RX until the RR was announced. To be honest, the RR seems more like an RX "lite" instead of an updated SR-hits all the things we wanted in the SR. i dont see spending the money the point of jumping to the RX anymore, I will be an RR owner!
when capturing samples using loops from a song, does the sample need to have the master file always in the system to play or does a capture create a new file?
Hi, when I sometimes use the top level fx knobs sometimes the standard sound of the track stays in a sort of judery wierd sound and goes away if I press the release fx, not all the time but sometimes and also it wont update firmware for the hardware itself. Any advice?
The RX has more controls and a longer pitch slider for starters. You can compare the two controllers here: www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews/pioneer-ddj-rx/ www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews/pioneer-dj-ddj-rr/ :-)
It's a good controller - not that we know of though, it's made for Rekordbox DJ (though it's worth a shot looking for mappings out there. Try Traktor Bible or DJ TechTools)
I have an issue setting up my DDJ-RR with Mixlr and LiveStream. Whenever I select the DDJ-RR in Mixlr or Livestream as an audio output device (channel 1&2, 3&4 or 5&6) no sound will come trough. In Rekordbox DJ I select the DD-RR Master Output to be the output... It all seems quite obvious but it just doesn't work. I wonder if anyone managed to solve this on MAC El Capitan with their DDJ-RR or DDJ-RX. I also tried to tweak the MIDI/Sound setting and use SoundFlower but without any luck. Please help!
Not the RX unfortunately, just with Rekordbox DJ - you might look into the SX for something similar and compatible with both: www.digitaldjtips.com/2012/11/pioneer-ddj-sx-serato-dj-controller-review/
Just wondering about the Beat FX section. In the DDJ 1000 there is only one knob, while here you have 2x3 knobs to fine tune. Isnt that a big disadvantage on the newer DDJ 1000?
+ryan glen Both are good - the DDJ-RX comes bundled with a full Rekordbox license so is great for dedicated users of that software. The XDJ-RX works better if you want less reliance on your laptop (a versatile all-in-one).
Hi I have recently purchased the RX and it is amazing ..However !! Do you know if you can Alter the Pitch slider range ? I have looked on the controller itself and in Rekord Box Dj software to no avail ..Any help would be appreciated..cheers :)
+gary robinson Hm, not entirely sure, but I imagine it's controlled under the Master Tempo section on each deck, called "Tempo Range" - I know on the SX you can press shift (on the left of the deck here) and then press range and it'll alter it for you. I hope that helps :) Good luck!
Both are solid - here's our full opinions on each: Pioneer DJ DDJ-SX - www.digitaldjtips.com/2012/11/pioneer-ddj-sx-serato-dj-controller-review/ Denon DJ MCX8000 - www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/04/review-video-denon-dj-mcx8000-controller-mixer/
The EQ section feels close, while the line faders on the RX have resistance (unlike the DJM range), the other key difference is that the headphone controls are on the front with the DDJSX and RX range, where as on the DJM range the controls are on top (far more optimal in most peoples eyes).
Man, thanks for the info. How about the jog wheels, can you compare and contrast with the CDJ series, or even the XDJ seria which is what I purchased. . .
My first impression of the jogwheels is a bit negative after using CDJs or even a cheaper Denon MC6000 controller, because both of these allow for big adjustments and backspins, the RX has much heavier/stiffer jogwheels (like CDJ set to heavy), you can apply a full force backspin and they hardly budge, you end up with half a backspin, which I find disappointing.
+DJ Unknown No comparison but here's our full reviews/opinions of each: DDJ-RX - www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/11/review-video-pioneer-ddj-rx-rekordbox-dj-controller/ DDJ-SX2 - www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/04/review-video-pioneer-dj-ddj-sx2-serato-dj-controller/
+Stu preach Hmm...beyond just getting all your settings right, not sure! Best place to ask such questions is on the Digital DJ Tips Forum (www.digitaldjtips.com/forum), where the whole community can see your issue and hopefully help you :)
+Digital DJ Tips thx guy will sure check it out! i love this controller and it the closest thing to a cdj you can get and my next controller i want it to be in that field! rekordbod box dj is a really interesting software and all but still can't seem to pull me off Vdj8 I will give it time to grow more to see what will happen!
+Sacha-yves jean-louis The DDJ-RX and SX2 are pretty similar, it mostly comes down to your choice between Serato DJ or Rekordbox software, and that will help you decide :) Let us know what you pick!
Watching this in 2019, when this is no longer a current model and there isn't a direct replacement for the SX yet, with the DDJ-1000 appearing more equivalent to a Z than an X, although priced closer to a X. Looking on Ebay and the RX seems to be a decent way of getting a high end controller for Rekordbox. The SX is also apparently supported in Rekordbox? Does anyone have an opinion on whether the RX is still a good option in 2019? Also, does the SX offer disadvantages in Rekordbox over the RX?
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the response. The DDJ-10000 appears better than the RX and priced competitively, but I wondered if it was worth trying to pick up a RX on ebay, potentially for less than half the new price of a DDJ-1000.
i get the whole "trying to get into the DJ Software" field but i think at the end of the day. Traktor and Serato will be a choice 90 percent of the DJ's will choose.
+Jose Lugo I only want the RX for practice purposes and for house parties. I like not having to do cue points on Traktor AND Rekordbox to play my real gigs. This is the closest thing to CDJs that I can afford. Literally every venue in San Diego has CDJ-900s or higher.
+Života Stefanović You should be able to :) For Rekordbox DJ, requirements are OS X 10.8 - 10.11 updated to the latest version, Intel Processor Dual Core 2.0GHz or higher, and 4GB+ RAM. For Serato DJ, there is a few more system requirements, so I'll link you: serato.com/dj/downloads#min-specs
+DJ M The biggest difference is software: DDJ-RX is a Rekordbox controller, and the DDJ-SX2 is well-suited for Serato DJ (hardware now upgraded to support Serato Flip/Serato DVS, also compatible with external hardware).
Only a partial backspin I'm afraid, the jogwheels are heavy, even if you put a lot of force into a backspin they hardly move. They should've been about 40% lighter imo.
Digital DJ Tips Yes that is what I mean. I believe the answer sadly, is no. I think you can only apply the color FX to external inputs which is a huge bummer on this controller...
+Kyle Waugh No specifics on memory cues, but it does feature 8 hot cues, sampler, etc. We explain in a little more detail under the "In Use" section of this article: www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/11/review-video-pioneer-ddj-rx-rekordbox-dj-controller/
After playing around with the unit for 2 weeks I wouldn't recommend it, well not until Rekordbox get's sorted out, too many issues with it to the point where you wouldn't want to be playing anywhere live.
I have upgraded to the Rekordbox RX from SX2 Serato I am loving all new features apart from some issues i'm having with the sync and tempo changes. I don't know if these problems can be adjusted from the settings but when I used to sync tracks on serato, I could control both deck tempos at the same time to adjust the pitch control on either deck. However, on Rekordbox if I sync deck 2 to deck 1 for example, I will not be able to use the pitch slider on deck 2 aswell as deck 1 to adjust the tempo change..(I can only adjust it on the deck playing and not both). This is confusing me as before I was able to do this on the fly on either channel when matching tracks with large BPM ranges. I also seem to be having issues with wide +6 +10 +16. Sometimes the pitch will just flick to 'wide' and it will cause a big problems when i'm live in a mix Any ideas on how to make the crossfader on either channel set the MASTER tempo for that deck to be controlled ??? (I'm having to do it manually through the software at the moment)... AND how can I keep the the decks from changing to WIDE and remain locked on +10?? sorry very confusing hope you can help. Overall fantastic controller and software.. Cheers.
+EX3MPTION Well, the problem is that you're using sync. The CDJs use Rekordbox to set grids and those grids along with the BPM information control the sync. You can only move the master channel. The other one follows the master. If you want to move them independently, just turn sync off and match the numbers or beatmatch the traditional way. Why would you want to control the tempo with the crossfader?
+EX3MPTION Sorry for the delay in answering, if you still have issues I'd suggest asking our Digital DJ Tips forum what they suggest: www.digitaldjtips.com/forum Typically though, sync follows the "master", so will follow whichever BPM that track is set to. We always recommend not matching anything further than +/- 5 BPM, as the track will seem strange even with keylock and sync on. You could try meeting tracks in the middle (eg speeding one up +5 and the other down -5), or other mixing techniques (scratching in a new track regardless of tempo, starting one and stopping the other at the same time to have a change in energy, that sort of thing...) Best of luck :)
It should! You can always ask Pioneer DJ support to make certain, but as long as it meets the minimum and you don't have tons of programs running on your computer simultaneously, then it should work fine
Same deal, R1 works without laptop, RX doesn't. R1 isn;t a very good controller as it is limited in what it can do - if you want a non-laptop controller, the XDJ-RX2 is best.
Digital DJ Tips so the full version comes with this. Does the sb2 give a intro version meaning u have to buy full versions ? Doesn't that mean u save more buying sx
Looks like the DDJ-RX have them sound colour FX and the DDJ-SX doesn’t have any, Reckordbox has features that Serato DJ doesn’t have ! Is the RX better than the SX ?
@@digitaldjtips I was personally hoping to get a ddj400 to begin with but it's proving very difficult to get my hands on one at the moment, so was going to get a mid range priced controller to hopefully learn on and keep for a couple years longer, still trying to work out what's best for me
+Nicolas Helt Serato has teamed up with Loopmasters, they often give out free sample content to Serato DJ users - have a quick look on the Serato site - serato.com/dj/content/loopmasters
I have one problem with DDJ-RX. I wanna adjust how long my effects should be, let's say that I want I 1/2 echo. And also I can't match the bpm of the effect which you can do on most of the mixers
Fml this was one of the best product reviews I've ever seen. This dude basically taught us how to do every damn thing on that kit in 22 minutes.
:) Thanks man - glad it was helpful
Have been using this controller for a year now. Haven't had any problems and Rekordbox has been getting better and better with every update! Love this controller❤️
Great stuff, glad you are enjoying it :-)
Just ordered one of these. Can't wait to get my hands it. Been using Rekordbox DJ on my DDJ-SR and it completely re-invented it.
Bring on the DDJ-RX
I think there's a ghost in the digital dj tips studio. Between about 5:18 & 5:20 the crossfader moves by itself... Spooky!
thats spooky..
lol nice.
oh yeh - spooky
Dam DAT was a Littile weird tho
Umbreon at least I got what you meant lmao.
Great stuff, we're glad to hear that you are enjoying your new toy :-) Thanks for sharing!
I just bought this controller and i'm lovin it! Also i love rekordbox dj software. The performance are amazing. I used traktor pro since 2012 with the s4 mk2 controller. But this is definately a upgrade!
Nice! Yeah we dig it too 🙌
Tell me what the core differences are between the Traktor and this? I would like to learn more of your opinion.
Awesome tutorial had my RX delivered yesterday and switched from 2decks and. Basic mixer.... So really needed this tutorial. Thanks
You're welcome Lou! How are you liking it so far?
Digital DJ Tips really good. Leaning everyday thanks for asking ✌️
You guys are brilliant, keen to see more reviews on upcoming pieces of dj tech. Keep it up
Cheers Louis :)
omg, i just watched so many review which do not talk about everything, or talk slow, or talk like the audience never used a Computer before! super style you have in explaning speed an all that!
Thanks! We're glad you found the video useful :-)
personally, i dont use the crossfader. i set all channels to "A" and use upfaders. :)
In that regard, it's a lot safer to set the channels to "THRU" so the crossfader doesn't affect the channels at all :)
I'm not a dj per se but I've loved music my whole life and wanted to indulge that love so I've just brought one of these controllers 2 days ago. BEAT JUMP!! Something I wished for a long time now
I've got these decks there brilliant
+agentmrp Awesome :)
+agentmrp can this use serrate dj?
Just received mine today, its amazing and sometime feels like too much options but all in good sense
Nice amit!
pioneer website has specs
Fantastic review. I own the DDJ SR and it works wonders with the Rekordbox 4. Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to get rocking on it again. Also awesome track. Thanks guys.
+jaybekay01 :D Of course, you're welcome!
the should have put the browser button where the booth button is located. also there is no dedicated mic control you have to use one of the chanel the you use to play your music that is a negative for me.
is the RX worth it in 2023?
Although without ordering it I've no idea if their jogwheels are any better, but lets face it they can't be any worse :).
have you changed the jog wheel settings within rekordbox?
So is this already fixed?
While the integration might be a little tighter between Rekordbox and the RX, being that they're in the same ecosystem and designed for one another, if you think you'll want to DJ on Serato, stick with the DDJ-S series of controllers :)
Here's our opinion on the SX2 - www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews/pioneer-ddj-sx2/
i like this controller because the color is a bit different but the problem is i am used of serato dj and its still the best software with me hope they will make an rx2 soon that will support serato dj.
Definitely :)
Pioneer DDJ-RX is a controller hardware it came with free software? thank you for support
You get a free RBDJ license with a DDJ-RX hardware purchase :)
it is nice deal and it have stand alone mixer is great deal thank you
@@jpnumarkpimenta4638 no, those would cost more than 1000 dollars lmao
DDJ-RZ? Is that review coming? Can you include some sequencer stuff too. And any workarounds for using the SZ to get the missing functions on the RZ.
Thanks!
+Mike Novelli Hello! We're currently awaiting review samples. Thanks!
+ Digital DJ Consejos cual es la diferencia entre el modelo ddj sz y el ddj rx? y cual entre ddj sx y sx2 con el modelo ddj rx ?saludos
I'm from Brazil. Here, this super crontroler is very much money.
"Noise" effect is actually fully called "White Noise".
+DJ Taranis Fair point, hopefully they'll get it fixed soon, of course there's bound to be things that need attention on any software first release
+Digital DJ Tips Ended up sending it back, got a refund and got myself the S8 :)
+WasThatDave Thank you so much!!! I needed that, i think its definitely something ill buy soon so yeah looking forward to mix on it :) :)
+Myrydian Just coming out. DDJ-RR
hi quick question..if I buy this controller, what functions will I NOT be able to use unless I purchase Rekordbox DJ?
Hello,
I'm looking for some help and advice before I buy some extra equipment for my Pioneer setup.
Im also curious about that
hi digitaldjtips thanks for the great video..just wanted to ask about the DVS capability, basically if you are sure that the controller is DVS ready when the software gets updated?..and also to connect 2 turntables it will have to be on the channels 1 and 2 which is the central ones in the mixer?..because it would make more sense having the turntables on 3 and 4 as the turntables would be further away position wise..(leaving the jog wheels for 1 and 2)..is that the case?
(i see a jog sensibility option on the rekordbox configuración but it seems that is the same)
i sure wish i could get a dutch manual or help on the program. becose i have the ddj-rx but me english is to bad to understand it good
Hi Elisa, you can likely find it here: www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/support/documents/ddj-rx/?all=1
Hi I have a xdj-r1 and buy the license for rekordbox dj but in the performance mode I have only control of the deck's but not the mixer only a channel is heard the two tracks and the one in a single CH button to listen to the track Of each channel, it is only an achievement to listen since the other channel does not work and making the manual control from the device is not visualized with the diginal control of rekordbox, please help me to configure the program well so that I can use it to one hundred percent 😭
Here's some more information for you: www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/07/rekord-buddy-2-0-public-beta-launched/ Hope that helps :-)
anyone knows if there is or there will be a newer version of this Pioneer DDJ-RX coming up soon ? I am worry to buy this and get a newer version....
Haven't heard anything yet
How many watts, number of power speaker i can connect to ddj rx. i have 1250 wats alto wofers then 2pcs 1100 wats. is that compatible?
Hey Robinson, haven't tried that specific set-up, however cross reference what you have with the RX specs on their product page to make sure :)
I can’t tell if it’s just mine but I have to press play with the volume down (double click) before I can play with where I want it to start ... maybe it’s just me

Please help. Which laptop works best with Rekordbox and the ddj rx?
can somebody help me.
+mintzas view This one only works with Rekordbox, you might look into the DDJ-SX as well for use with Rekordbox and Serato DJ :)
+Digital DJ Tips thank you.
Thank you so much for this video.
You're welcome! 🙂
when capturing samples using loops from a song, does the sample need to have the master file always in the system to play or does a capture create a new file?
Hi, is it possibe lo save loops in the sample slot using Rekordbox with ddj sx2? Cant find it out :(
Hi, when I sometimes use the top level fx knobs sometimes the standard sound of the track stays in a sort of judery wierd sound and goes away if I press the release fx, not all the time but sometimes and also it wont update firmware for the hardware itself. Any advice?
Is there any difference with the DDJ-RR except the fact that this one has 4 channels? Thanks.
The RX has more controls and a longer pitch slider for starters. You can compare the two controllers here:

hi phil, could you tell me about the sound quality of this ddj rx compared to the ddj sx2.
thanks gary
+gary crumlish Haven't had the chance to fully review the SX2 just yet, but look for that soon :)
Thinking about getting this controller but does it roll on traktor?
It's a good controller - not that we know of though, it's made for Rekordbox DJ (though it's worth a shot looking for mappings out there. Try Traktor Bible or DJ TechTools)
if I plug in two phone that I could also use Controller without the program?
Can I use Virtual Dj on this ??
Is it compatible with serato?
Not the RX unfortunately, just with Rekordbox DJ - you might look into the SX for something similar and compatible with both: www.digitaldjtips.com/2012/11/pioneer-ddj-sx-serato-dj-controller-review/
Just wondering about the Beat FX section. In the DDJ 1000 there is only one knob, while here you have 2x3 knobs to fine tune.
Isnt that a big disadvantage on the newer DDJ 1000?
You are trading flexibility for immediacy with the DDJ-1000. The DDJ-1000 is more how effects work on club gear.
@@digitaldjtips i see, so as a bedroom dj not much loss there.
Thanks for replying, i Just got a 2nd hand DDJ RX for 500 € :-)
hi what would be a good started piece for home the DDJ-RX or the XDJ-RX??
Pioneer DDJ-SX or Denon MCX 8000??
Both are solid - here's our full opinions on each:

Denon DJ MCX8000 -
www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/04/review-video-denon-dj-mcx8000-controller-mixer/
do you know if its going to be compatiblle with dvs for timecodes and also for mixing videos?
+Luis Alberto Sanchez Perez Yes with DVS, not sure about videos though
Does the mixer feel like a DJM? Couldnt tell when I tried it at GC
Good feedback, thanks guys!
Does anyone know how to turn on the crossfader cause for some reason mine doesn't work? is it a setting in rekordbox dj? need help thanks! :)
I wanna see a comparison between this and The SX2

+Sacha-yves jean-louis Hello! Hard to say, you can see what our forum thinks: www.digitaldjtips.com/forum/digital-dj-gear/
+Digital DJ Tips sure will! Still got plenty of time to think about it during so, good old NS6 will do the job!
+Sacha-yves jean-louis The advantage of the Pioneer DDJ-SX2 is that you can use both Serato and Rekordbox DJ with it ;)
Watching this in 2019, when this is no longer a current model and there isn't a direct replacement for the SX yet, with the DDJ-1000 appearing more equivalent to a Z than an X, although priced closer to a X.
RX is fine in 2019, but for most people the DDJ-1000 is even better. What is it about the DDJ-1000 you don't like?
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the response. The DDJ-10000 appears better than the RX and priced competitively, but I wondered if it was worth trying to pick up a RX on ebay, potentially for less than half the new price of a DDJ-1000.
The RX is a good controller, so if the price works, you'd be fine going for it.
i get the whole "trying to get into the DJ Software" field but i think at the end of the day. Traktor and Serato will be a choice 90 percent of the DJ's will choose.
+Jose Lugo Sure, until now that could be said to be true, but Rekordbox has a lot going for it, only time will tell!
+Jose Lugo and thats just your opinion.
+Jose Lugo thats how people talked about Serato when it first came out
+Jose Lugo I only want the RX for practice purposes and for house parties. I like not having to do cue points on Traktor AND Rekordbox to play my real gigs. This is the closest thing to CDJs that I can afford. Literally every venue in San Diego has CDJ-900s or higher.
DDJ-RX is cool machine.
Can I run smoothly run rekordbox dj or serato on macbook (not air not pro the new just macbook in the name one) ? :)
Hi,
does the rx have a big difference to the ddi sx2?
Witchout recordbox and serato
+DJ M The biggest difference is software: DDJ-RX is a Rekordbox controller, and the DDJ-SX2 is well-suited for Serato DJ (hardware now upgraded to support Serato Flip/Serato DVS, also compatible with external hardware).
does this unit come with a full version of rekord box dj or is it sold seperatly
Comes with the full version :)
Is this worth it in 2021 as a semi-beginner set of decks?
For the right price I'd say so yes :)
@@digitaldjtips Was not expecting a response as this video is 5+ years old but thanks man
Found a few dotted around for £500-£600.
Could you do a backspin on these jogs like the ones on the cdjs?
Only a partial backspin I'm afraid, the jogwheels are heavy, even if you put a lot of force into a backspin they hardly move. They should've been about 40% lighter imo.
Thanks for the help Brendan!
Hey someone's got to take the straight shots ;)
Can you connect additional cdjs to the mixer? Thanks!
Yes!
Digital DJ Tips Can you use any of the FX other than the Color FX on external inputs???? I can’t find an answer anywhere...
@@oldkid2475 Hi do you mean using the FX from the DDJ-RX on other units (like a CDJ)?
Digital DJ Tips Yes that is what I mean. I believe the answer sadly, is no. I think you can only apply the color FX to external inputs which is a huge bummer on this controller...
it is better with a laptop intel5? thank you for support
As long as the specs of the laptop meet the minimum specs for the hardware/software, you'll be fine :)
ok sir
Anyone know if the RX hardware has access to memory cues? Or would I have to use my mouse in the software to access?
+Kyle Waugh No specifics on memory cues, but it does feature 8 hot cues, sampler, etc. We explain in a little more detail under the "In Use" section of this article: www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/11/review-video-pioneer-ddj-rx-rekordbox-dj-controller/
can i play music on ddj- rx even i did not dowload rekordbox?
You will need Rekordbox to operate the DDJ-RX :-)
After playing around with the unit for 2 weeks I wouldn't recommend it, well not until Rekordbox get's sorted out, too many issues with it to the point where you wouldn't want to be playing anywhere live.
+DJ Taranis Thanks for the feedback! :)
I agree, I severely regret having bought this unit. It stung my wallet and it has not been a fun experience at all. If I could take it back I would.
Liam Milne why tho? From happy ddj rx owner
Fantastic skills.
Sometimes the pitch will just flick to 'wide' and it will cause a big problems when i'm live in a mix
Any ideas on how to make the crossfader on either channel set the MASTER tempo for that deck to be controlled ???
You could try meeting tracks in the middle (eg speeding one up +5 and the other down -5), or other mixing techniques (scratching in a new track regardless of tempo, starting one and stopping the other at the same time to have a change in energy, that sort of thing...) Best of luck :)
please need help, where can I buy 2016-17 ddj Rx??
Do a search on Google or Pioneer's website, you should be able to find it through those channels :)
+Digital DJ Tips OK thanks , I don't think it's out now
GOOGLE MATE
Can you do a sx and rx comparison
Basically one is for Rekordbox and one for Serato, so it depends on the software you want to use.
is it compatible for Asus vivo540s
Not sure! Probably, as long as you have the minimum required specifications for the software and hardware :)
Digital DJ Tips i look for the specs required for rekordbox and it meet the required specs. is that will do? :)
It should! You can always ask Pioneer DJ support to make certain, but as long as it meets the minimum and you don't have tons of programs running on your computer simultaneously, then it should work fine
can i use ddj rx with serato dj
Good question - no, the DDJ-R series works exclusively with Rekordbox DJ. You would need to go for a DDJ-S series controller, like the DDJ-SX :)
xdj rx 1 or ddj rx I am a beginner please help....
Biggest difference is the XDJ-RX will work without laptop, and the DDJ-RX needs one
Thank you very much for the reply how about R1 over ddj rx please advise
Same deal, R1 works without laptop, RX doesn't. R1 isn;t a very good controller as it is limited in what it can do - if you want a non-laptop controller, the XDJ-RX2 is best.
Thank you got it going for ddj rx since it’s in budget for now 🙏🏻😊
i have the ddj rb with the full version of rekordbox with it does the full version still work on the rx?
plss answer me before december i am new in dj😳
Hey Roy, yes, the DDJ-RX should work fine with the full version of Rekordbox DJ (should be included with it as well)
Yes
+Digital DJ Tips can I use the pioneer ddj Rx with virtual dj
Digital DJ Tips so the full version comes with this. Does the sb2 give a intro version meaning u have to buy full versions ? Doesn't that mean u save more buying sx
Looks like the DDJ-RX have them sound colour FX and the DDJ-SX doesn’t have any, Reckordbox has features that Serato DJ doesn’t have !
Is the RX better than the SX ?
@digital dj tips..can you use this with serato software
+ken ark The Pioneer DDJ-RX is designed specifically as a Rekordbox controller, unfortunately for fans of Serato DJ.
+Digital DJ Tips ..so answer is no..
No, DDJ - RX (R for recordbox). The DDJ SX2 is for Serato
+ken ark NO, but the SX2 can run both Serato and Rekordbox with the difference being the RX has dedicated buttons for some of the Rekordbox features.
Could I run a Korg KP3 through this? Thanks
Yes, just run the outputs through it and then on to your speakers.
Ddj RX vs DDJ 800? Which wins?
Definitely personal preference and how many channels you think you need
@@digitaldjtips I was personally hoping to get a ddj400 to begin with but it's proving very difficult to get my hands on one at the moment, so was going to get a mid range priced controller to hopefully learn on and keep for a couple years longer, still trying to work out what's best for me

The rx is the old Ddj 1000 so would be better to compare with that
What kind of case fits this?

I have one problem with DDJ-RX. I wanna adjust how long my effects should be, let's say that I want I 1/2 echo. And also I can't match the bpm of the effect which you can do on most of the mixers
can't you set it on rekordbox? I think you can choose fx time like 1/1 1/2 1/4 1/8 for echo and other fx
Why will they not make a new one for traktor.. crazy... :-(
More down to the fact that they have their own software to sell really.
