My dad if I don’t do my chores: This is taiaha
Maximum respect from Ireland ❤
Im part maori and im very proud of my culture ive been told of stories in modern times of how hard the training is that im not permitted to speak of in times not so long ago a Maori warrior was a fearless fighting machine who could fight day and night for days on end the agility strength and skill level required would have been so high anything less and you would most likely have been killed by the person training you
Moments in this I thought that's quite spooking but very passionate
came here after broxh explained
Sameeeeeee
I like spears the taiaha is so cool
Mau Rakau is something truly special. I'm not Maori or have any warrior ancestors. However I love my Taiaha and am trying to learn the combative & inner spiritual. Every journey had to start somewhere hay!
Any help much appreciated. ....Chur. 💪👍🙏
We all do bro sum we're down the line that's the only way we are all still here to this day.
Is the taiaha like a sword and short spear combined?
It's a staff.
It’s just how our weapons were, taiaha have killed hundreds of thousands
More of a fighting staff
The ātē (ah-teh) pronounced is a blade which is for striking and thrusting the (Tinana) mid section is for holding, and also blocking, the (arero) (ah-dde-ddo) pronounced is also a spear head but not for throwing it's to thrust only so it's not a spear that you throw but only thrusting and striking
Closer to an English quarter staff
Greetings brothers and sisters from Crete island Chania state Mediterranean sea ❤❤❤

#Maori Taiaha with deadly speed.
I got a taiaha its a wooden katana turned around the other way
What is this man's name? If I were to visit New Zealand is there somewhere a foreigner can learn Taiaha? I'm a mixed blood person.
You prolly gotta Maori bro, best shot is to marry a Maori gal and be honorary Ngati Pakeha but even then ion think they gonna teach u
We have Maori weapons schools of learning
Poco Loco I’m a female pakeha and I was taught in drama school
@@Lewellah sounds like your a bit of a drama queen lol.
Lol damn right, and he was a fantastic teacher too
How they carved tree without metal tools?
Tools made from Stone and Greenstone
Now you are ready for Stone Age, Logan.
Jade , stone, mixed with other things = whai
I’m curious why they didn’t edge the Taiaha with obsidian or something?
Probably because most Taiaha would have been made from Kauri which is hard as fuck wood. Still gonna split skulls with ease, without the added fuss of edging obsidian into the weapon.
@@aanton1360 I didn’t know there was anything notable about the type of wood. Thanks for the info! :)
But the taiaha already had a stabbing section, the “tongue” of the weapon. Wouldn’t it have been more effective to give that a sharper, volcanic-glass/something-similar edging?
@@randomname1251 some taiaha, would have a greenstone (New Zealand’s name for Jade) tongue, the greenstone tongue is much easier to stab through someone
Traditionally Taiaha were not killing weapons. The initial part of the warparty would approach, fight with taiaha and slash and stab leaving wounded enemies on the ground before moving on. Then, a second wave would approach usually with patu (short clubs) made of obsidian, or basalt, or pounamu or hardened wood, and finish off the wounded enemies with quick blows to the back of the skull or the temple. Those were the killing weapons. Taiaha were meant to break, they were meant to be used, adding an obsidian edge would have probably been too much time and effort that would have been wasted.
Rau uto
Wow!
😂😂😂 still waiting for your lawyer to contact me 😂😂
Wouldn't it be more useful if the taiaha were pointed at both ends?
Maybe, it was mostly a fighting staff weapon, one end used for stabbing, well the other was used for bashing, but we do have double pointed weapon called the Tao.
@@Toatekaha i love polynesian culture, greetings 👍👋❤
No, it's for breaking bone's and cracking skulls..
I heard a story about a red coat soilder boasting he could best any maori warrior with a rifle and bayonet, may have been a sword I can't remember anyway an old maori man challenged him with a taiaha and bested him in seconds.
@@zanedickson2725 wow 💪😎
Yeah was a sword also didn't respect the age of the warrior many maori warriors died young if you lived to see old age you considered very good warrior
Came here after Book of Boba Fett eps 2

This I why the British were scared of us.
0:32 That would put me off alright, to put down my weapon and call the mental hospital.
tf?
Taiaha have killed hundred of thousands, the hospital would probably take you instead
That would cut your head off, you wouldn’t see it coming
ok?
