Thanks for all the great reviews Mr. Krause. I came back to watch this and the Arturia Audiofuse16 reviews since I'm considering upgrading to one of them. I think it should have been questioned why Audient calls it Evo16 when there's only 8 inputs. The Audiofuse has 16 inputs (as you mentioned in the other video). Kind of sneaky of them ? 😁 But whichever I choose I am sure I´ll be happy.

Love your videos thanks. My only comment would be that, RTL aside, the 18i20 3rd gen has the same / better figures in your tests than the EVO16 and both, sadly, need 80ohms or higher headphones - and yet your overall tone in the 18i20 3rd gen review is one of - 'it's average, nothing more nothing less' - quite disparaging - whereas your overall tone for the EVO16 is very positive. Also - please can we have colour bar charts for the RTL - it's one of the most important features for those using MIDI when choosing an interface. Thanks again - your videos are fantastic!
Was noticing the same. Also an unfortunate drawback to YT videos like these overall - the need to sell/grow their channel can disrupt and skew (we're only human afterall). @@JupiterStudio1 no, only 18 inputs on the focusrite - fair point, but that's not the reason the review gives for one being better than the other. That's obviously quite objective - if you need 24 inputs over 18 then go for the EVO 👍🏼
Thank you - as usual an excellent review and real data. I always like the way you mention if a measurement isn't perfect whether it will have a real world impact. The combo of the two units seems like a neat way of getting a large number of inputs if you record live bands or other situations when many mics and line inputs are required. I often wonder what would be involved to add to an interface switchable headphone impedance or a boost button.
Hello. It’s the first time I watch one of your videos I really appreciated your job. It’s very well done, objective with tests results. Thanks a lot for that. Just a few questions : how the latency can be shorter with higher sample rate ? Same with the buffers. In your description, higher is the buffer, higher is the latency. Thanks in advance for feedback.
Julian, informing viewers that Audient sent the devices to you is a “disclosure”, not a “disclaimer”. A “disclaimer” would be if you for example told your viewers that you take no responsibility for their hearing loss if they set the volume of their monitors too high when listening to your tests. 90% of RUclipsrs make this mistake, even native English speakers, so don’t feel bad.
hey Julian, would you consider testing DJ controllers with audio interface? they come with separate main and headphone outs and some with mic and/or line ins. enough to measure there and a whole product range to feature from 70€ to infinity and beyond. anyone else only reviews the jogs and knobs and features, you'd be the first to talk audio quality in that field metrics to include: are outputs in sync or delayed to each other? what kind of headphones does the headphone amp want to drive? are master levels hardware or software controlled?

Hi Julian, I need some advice on an audio interface I am a keyboard player and I do live piano bar evenings but they often ask me to also do karaoke evenings and therefore I would need an audio interface that has four easy-to-manage microphone inputs and midi connections. The audio interface should allow me to take advantage of this function even if I only use the PC with karaoke file management software (in my case Winlive Pro Synt). So I should have both the connected microphones and the one I play from the PC come out of the audio interface at the same time through a DAW into which I can also load some VSTs for the voice (not only reverbs and choirs, but also effects to modify the voices) all in real time. The final configuration should be: PC - audio interface - real-time management DAW - karaoke software. I had thought of the Behringer umc404hd, Audient Evo 8 (but it doesn't have MIDI connections) and the M-Audio Air 192/14. I know the first two, I saw your reviews, but not the third. Can you tell me something more about the M-Audio Air 192/14? Which one do you recommend? Thank you
That was awesome! One question: I thought about using Earthworks Mics in combination with this interface. The condensor mics have a very high output signal and I am a bit afraid that they are too hot for these pre-amps. Has someone tried that combo?
Hello and thank you for the review ! I would like to know if the Balanced line outputs are DC coupled, so that they can be used with software like CV Tools/Bitwig etc for interacting with hardware synthesizers that receive CV? And if yes what is their Voltage range?
When controlling the SP8 through the software, does the SP8 need to be connected to the PC over USB-C or does it somehow communicate the gains and such over ADAT?
I am thinking of buying evo 16 but I am not familiar with the technical terms. I'm currently using Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 OHM and I don't know if it will give the right frequency tray for it, I'm thinking of buying a 250 ohm headphone for the future, can it offer them to me without problems and at a very high accurate sound.
Hi Julian, i have a very important question for you. My goal is to get recordings with as little rumor as possible, with an excellent quality, which sound card you recommend (as a microphone I chose the Lewitt LCT 440 pure, I think I have chosen well) but I don't know about the sound card. Some of you may need this information, I purchased an Audient EVO 16 a while back, unfortunately it had unbearable noise and distortion on all the inputs, the recorded audio files were almost unusable, it forced me to return it and the thing seriously affected my work, I ended up replacing it with a MOTU UltraLite-mk5 as my main unit, yes it works very stable and performs well, I hope that this information will be useful for those who are going to buy an Audient EVO 16.
can't you jsut expand one evo16 with another evo16 instead of an sp8? Why would you buy an sp8? It seems like a cut down version of sp8 with a price difference of 30 bucks
Thanks JK! Any imporments in sp8 and 16 about EMI problems with EVO lineup? And we still waiting for SSL12 review. P.S. Rack mounts are optional - Boo!
Gain range & dynamic ranges are kinda INCOMPETITIVE. Like a lot the fisical design and the inovative function of the 'green button'. Hate the fact interfaces have most of their inputs on the back, forcing the use of longer cables in some set-ups. At least 4 inputs in the front should be the standard.
I have a EVO16 and beringer ADA8200 adat interface. It seems EVO 16 adat output's clock is not compatible with ADA8200, the clock won't sync. I have to set the ADA8200 as clock master for them to work. While 18i20 don't have this issue.
I just got an UA 4-710d preamp and dont l ow how to connect to mt evo 16. The UA have 2 adat out and word clock too. Do i have to use both? BNC and ADAT cable? Evo 16 has only 1 word clock out so it must be the master clock?
@@SirGyver I dont have experience with any of these units but with other similar units via ADAT and in general for clocking you either have to use one or the other, but you of course need to connect the ADAT to get sound at all, so the options are for connecting: ADAT+BNC (word clock) or just ADAT cables. The UA 4-710d only has ADAT outputs and no ADAT inputs so if you are planning on using the Evo as master then you must use BNC wordclock, if you use the UA 4-710d as master you should likely be fine with just the ADAT cables.
Hm, I don't think so. ADAT is usually not supported by HT recievers and SPDIF is afaik only able to send 5.1 signals with compressed formats like DTS. And the EVO 16 an SP8 shoudl only allow PCM signals. You could ask the Audient support but think the chances are slim that it works.
Has anyone got the evo 16 working on an m2 Mac? And if so how does it run/are there any issues? I’m about to upgrade to an m2 after my old faithful iMac recently died, which also means I’m going to have to upgrade from my old faithful Saffire Pro 40.. I was going to try using the Saffire as an adat expansion for the audient id14, but from what I’ve read it seems to be a bit of a headache to get that working on m2.. So to avoid the headache, the Evo 16 is looking like a pretty tempting upgrade
One thing you neglected to mention is that the SP8 can act as a standalone DA converter, which makes it the least expensive ADAT-to-analog box on the market. The only other box that I can think of that falls in the same price range is the Aphex 141B, which appears to be discontinued at the moment.
The Behringer ADA8200 also works as a standalone converter (AD and DA simultaneously) and is less than half the price (new) of the SP8. Company aside, reviews claim it as a very capable device. Plenty of used options too: Presonus Digimax FS is a steal; or, when setup properly, the standalone mode on many interfaces can do this as well (Motu, Focusrite, Mackie, M-Audio), see Motu 828 mkIII
@@4headgaming448 Go figure I forgot about the Behringer. And, yes, many interfaces can do this but they're typically not in this price range or they're used., as you said.
@@Freez_Izzy Hi, yes, no adat out, but adat in makes more sense than adat out, and is fine for me. I don t see why I would want adat out, when I want to only add more preamps. The Evo has no MIDI capabilities. That s lame. Thanks man :)
I just asked support from audient. An EVO16 can be configured to work as an adat preamp, but the remote preamp gain control smart gain and 48v control won't be available for the EVO16 connected via ADAT.
Julian thank you Sir-ALSO below Hi if you wouldn’t mind I have a question/ request. I am starting a podcast RUclips channel soon. I was looking for advice. I will need some intro out to music something nice mellow year now opera or Chopin. I need how to mask a person’s voice as I will be posting videos/audio files of my interviewee. I want to make the Interviwee’s voice is kept private as we are speaking about important yet speaking open about private work life issues. Not cartoonie or a peculiar sound something more natural sounding test not like the person who spoke. Thank you if you have time Jason
Hey, one idea is to record the interview normally witha mic for each person. Then use a software to transcribe the audio and run the text though a text to voice AI. This way you should get a decent sounding voice. Some programs might also let you directly use recorded audio as a source to creat the sme spoke word but with a different AI language. This way your interviwees are completly anonymous. Other methods of anonymizing voice only works badly, doesn't sound that great and can usually be reverted. The text spken by an AI is probably your best bet.
@@JulianKrause You are Awesome you REPLIED 🫶🎉. What programs would be able to do this? Not super tech savvy yet I research a lot to get answers Thank you again for the response and guidance Jason
The EVO 16 and SP8 are devices that have different applications, even though they are used in sound recording. Not sure why these two units are compared. One is a standard digital audio interface that can connect to a PC for recording (EVO 16) whilst the other is a mic pre-amplifier (SP 8). Need to buy both units for recording purposes where you can use functions available of both units. Unless you already have an interface and want a mic preamp.
This is an odd question, I'm sorry...What was the THD of the MOTU M2's main outputs, which are also ESS-Driven? Unfortunately, you did that review before you were quite as fastidious with every test. DC-Coupled, BTW.
I just noticed in the upper left it says "ADVERTISEMENT".................... for the whole video?? .............. so I went to check and low and behold I found a couple others like that........... what are we doing over there? .......... I almost feel "tricked"... yes, I don't think you needed to label this as an AD............. that's what threw me off, that is HIGHLY irregular and lets ad atypical also.
I noticed that too. I'm sure its just subtly a nod to take videos of this nature as being biased to being more positive? At least the test figures speak for themselves I suppose

Please Test This One! Heritage Audio i73 PRO And Dissassembly it and check the converters :)
Lcd x is bad for audient?
Possible to connect with 5.1+DTS Home Theather Receiver via Toslink?
So to avoid the headache, the Evo 16 is looking like a pretty tempting upgrade
do the MT 48
Nice review! Can you make on about Presonus quantum 2626? They say its the faster latency interface on market!
what did you get in the end?
For this price range SSL12 is better than this. Thanks for the video, great as usual :)
SSL12 only con is lack of adat out (in comparison to EVO). But totally agree.
@@Freez_Izzy Hi, yes, no adat out, but adat in makes more sense than adat out, and is fine for me. I don t see why I would want adat out, when I want to only add more preamps. The Evo has no MIDI capabilities. That s lame. Thanks man :)
Minus 4 inputs@@Freez_Izzy
what monitors do you have in this video?
Hey, these are KEF iQ1 speakers.
Can I use another EVO16 to expand an EVO16?
In my country EVO16 is $150 cheaperr than SP8.
Will the preamp gain control over adat work?
Pretty sure that should work but I haven't tried it. You could ask the Audient support, they should know :)
No, you can't. That's what the EVOSP8 is for.
I just asked support from audient.
An EVO16 can be configured to work as an adat preamp, but the remote preamp gain control smart gain and 48v control won't be available for the EVO16 connected via ADAT.
Julian thank you Sir-ALSO below
Hi if you wouldn’t mind I have a question/ request.
Thank you if you have time
Jason
Not super tech savvy yet I research a lot to get answers
Thank you again for the response and guidance

“Additional fuck button” 😂
Every interface needs that, just in case :)
svai af dai
The fuck button... I think I pissed myself just a little bit Julian, that was hilarious, you bleeding mentalist! 😂😂😂
Presonus 68C please
I wanted to buy the Evo 16 but I think I will take the Motu M6 or the SSL 12. what do you guys think is the best option? Thanks for any inputs
Audient 14.
Audient 14.
This is an odd question, I'm sorry...What was the THD of the MOTU M2's main outputs, which are also ESS-Driven? Unfortunately, you did that review before you were quite as fastidious with every test. DC-Coupled, BTW.
ich habe keine wish nicht ,ich bin zu Hause
1:38 😄
Sad that you didn't check the vst performance. But anyway thanks for the review and your work.
But with logic switching to 32 bit too, why to buy a 24 bit interface, when 32 bit is around the corner?
I just noticed in the upper left it says "ADVERTISEMENT".................... for the whole video?? .............. so I went to check and low and behold I found a couple others like that........... what are we doing over there? .......... I almost feel "tricked"... yes, I don't think you needed to label this as an AD............. that's what threw me off, that is HIGHLY irregular and lets ad atypical also.
I noticed that too. I'm sure its just subtly a nod to take videos of this nature as being biased to being more positive? At least the test figures speak for themselves I suppose
I'm waiting for an Audient ASP880 with usb-connection. I don't care for this plastic stuff with inputs on front...
rack ears are separate? lame
Bollywood analogue watch it
This output impedance and headphone output power is nothing special in 2024, no midi ... big disappointment.
