Why does everyone think my country is going to go belly up now it's leaving the EU?
God, we've only been in it 40 years, not like France where they've been in since like the day after WWII and share it's common currency.
We have our own currency, which was and will be again stronger than the Euro.
Britain gave up the least of its Sovereignty to the EU compared with other members. Our reasons for joining were not to surrender Sovereignty, but that's just what the EU became.
We thought we were just entering a single market, it was like another trade deal, but this one essentially sets us up for the very foreseeable future.
We've lost very little out of this, compared to what other members would. Simply from being far more entangled in EU bureaucracy and policy. We were always the EU's loudest and most independent member anyway.
2nd largest economy and largest military out of the EU countries. Remind me how we're fucked. We contributed more then what we got out.
Our only concerns out of this our 1. our trade. We have to re negotiate. Something tells me Europe won't remain bitter, they need to buy and sell with Britain to stay stable themselves.
And now Britain isn't part of the EU, we are open to trade with whoever we want to again. We could trade with Brazil, why not? Hell, once we're out the EU sanctions on Russia no longer apply, we can trade with Russia if Europe want to be childish about it.
And 2. The potential abolishment of the UK due to Scottish Nazi Party.

This has been a shock to all of us, even the leave voters, the intelligent ones at least.

The EU has been playing chicken with the UK for decades. France and Germany get a lot more out of the EU in terms of markets and subsidies for their industry.
Scotland will not be allowed to join the EU, because they aren't going to contribute anything to it. Even if they do join, the money they get out will dry up.
France and Germany got what they deserve. They need to blame their negotiators rather than the British people who were sick of paying in and getting nothing out.
If the new leader of Britain is smart, the first thing they will do is give everyone a tax cut, to reflect the money saved.

This is to all the countries in the EU - you're in a unified Europe under a dominant Germany. You have a think about that...

    • @eju547
      @eju547 6 лет назад

Hence the reason why, functionally, the idea of the Eurozone sought to tie Germany to a common currency (the Euro) so it wouldn't dominate and out-compete neighbouring states post-unification. The EU is an intergovernmental institution. There will always be a state which maintains more influence in any regional group of states, that hardly means they dominate. Incidentally Germany will still be a greater power in relation to the UK - even after Brexit. The problem now is the fact that we are leaving the only institution which puts a check on state/sovereign power in Western Europe; one of the only examples in a globalised world where an organisation puts the power into the hands of 'people' in international cross-border issues through the European Parliament; and the only regional forum representing member states in Europe through the Council of Ministers (who are held to account by Parliament - representatives of the people). Without the EU as a mechanism Germany would have become a regional superpower anyway, the difference is that without a pooling of power and common overlapping policy objectives at an EU level, there would be no incentive for Germany to restrain its power. This would be the case for any sovereign power, not just Germany, which was in the position to dominate without the rules, checks, and balance of power created by an overarching body.

Some of the conditions the EU wants are plain ridiculous. For example, controlling the UK military. They now see the UK as a competitor and will do us no favours. Not that they ever have! In my view, the UK should not focus on the EU and form a trade agreement with all the Commonwealth countries. In reality they should have never left the Commonwealth back in the 70's. The majority of the world's raw materials are held by the likes of Australia, Canada, etc. . Now whilst the UK would no longer be the king pin of the Commonwealth, it still appears to make a lot of sense to reform this alliance. Then add in the United States and we could then dictate terms to the EU. Wouldn't that be nice!

TemplarX2 won't happen. The EU won't just stop trading with the UK. 20% of Germany car sales alone go to the UK. You really think Germany will want to lose that market? And that's just German car sales. India and China are the fastest growing economies... the UK is now free to trade with them. Once the dip is out of the way, the UK'S economy will flourish.
We still have the 5th largest economy in the world.
Anyone who decides to stop trading with us (EU) included will just be damaging their economies.

I think this was a mistake. EU certainly has mistakes, but for me being czech (and we remember totalitarian history of Europe very well) EU is ongoing dialogue about the Europe rather than superstate. I think EU will reflect and reform a bit to fulfill it's original destiny - I think original idea of EU is to create area of shared values of liberties/democracy. I think leaving this dialogue and process is not a wise decision , even though I believe EU needs some self-reflection and reform. But looking back at Europe history I think it is a good project and if we destroy it what we will have ? What is the future of Europe not being united with those liberal / democratic principles...... I still believe EU has a future, even though there are many skeptical voices.

Did everyone get so comfortable in their peaceful little world they forgot that this peace might not be as stable as we think? I love the UK and I am very sad they left ! Not because the rest of the EU needed them economically I am sure we will be fine but because they were part of the European family and them leaving means giving in to the close minded uneducated people that actually think that the immigrants are the reason for all of their problems! It means ignoring the 48% that wanted to stay and the vast majority of young people that did not want to leave and whoms future has been altered in a way they didn't want it to! Hate to break it to you, but the 'vast majority of young people' couldn't even be bothered to vote when they had the chance. Europe has had no wars since WW2 because of NATO, not the EU (though 10/10 for good PR trying to take credit) and immigrants ARE the reason for our population exploding by over 10 million in as many years, our services struggling to cope and no-one being able to get a house anymore.
