      CfCFan99 The second referendum is specifically for people that have changed their mind and comes under the priviso that remain needs 60% to win this time. I think that's perfectly acceptable. Quite frankly I'd say anyone that opposes that is more likely to be against democracy than someone that is in favour.

      +Moo - Arrogant condescension, hmmm that'll make me take you seriously. The EEC was the model the British people voted to join, that has morphed into a union that has greater and greater political and law making powers and now incorporates states that are just not compatible with us culturally or economically. The tariffs and frameworks the EU imposes on certain industries are crippling in a competitive world market. European nations exist fine outside the EU, in fact they flourish. Finally, it's baffling to me that people are so ready to disregard their national sovereignty and self determination that previous generations spilled blood to maintain, how can they be this stupid?

    the £ crashed after city bankers gambled £20million on a remain victory, and while it crashed the euro did worse. make of that what you will. and Scotland may leave the UK... the SNP wanted to leave years ago, that's nothing new. irish nationalists want to unify Ireland, also nothing new. Cameron resigned purely of his own volition. this show is very biased. I thought one of the biggest things to come out of the results was how badly the labour party are doing, and how much they have lost touch with their electorate. if it had been possible to keep all our trading terms, but retain full political powers and cap migration levels, we wouldn't have left. but despite 4 years of effort, the EU was unwilling to reform, despite us being the 2nd biggest contributor in monetary terms. and of the few concessions we did get, only capping the amount of child benefit abroad had any tangible figures attached to it, and otherwise a few wishy-washy "assurances" with no real backing or legislation. Cameron agrees the EU has many short-comings, but we should be at the table to help make those reforms. i would agree, but after 4 years of trying it obviously is not working. unfortunately we have had to leave the EU, and now that we have maybe the EU will stand up, take notice, and make those reforms. although I doubt we will be the only country to leave now

From what i've been gathering, majority of the "LEAVE" votes came from closed minded, racist and uneducated individuals. Some that did vote LEAVE did actually have reasons to do so that are valid, but i think that if more people educated themselves before voting, the votes would have been dramatically different.

Respect our democratic right to rule our selves and control our own nation! we have taken back control and Independance is everything... no more will a forign entity tell us what to do! The people will it! It amazes me that people would want to remain when we was just a sinking ship basically.. with all the wrong holes sinking us, now those holes will be fixed, and our nation shall set sail, Full speed ahead, for better or worse we will pull through it as a nation and come to a better place at the other side... Countrymen now lets make this work, and introduce what is rightfully our right to introduce as a soverign nation!

    "Democracy doesn't work!"
    I think what he means is that having the entire population decide on some really important matter isn't always the wisest way to go. He doesn't mean "it doesn't work because it didn't get the results I wanted", it simply means that certain results are not ideal, but the population might opt to go for the less desirable choice. Obviously, in his views, leaving the E.U. was not ideal, and so according to him, that's the bad choice to make. It's a risk they took when leaving it up to the public. Big things like this should not be left in the hands of random people, many of whom may lack the required information, knowledge and insight to even make that decision. It's kinda like asking a class full of 6 year olds what they want to eat; candy or carrots. Many of them will probably go for the candy, because that sounds way better, even though having the carrots is healthier for them. They don't know, they don't care, they want the candy. So we let adults decide for them, because that's better for them. And let's be realistic, you can hardly argue that this referendum is the most democratic way to go.. well, maybe it is, but there are many, many decisions that a few make for all the others. This happens all the time. Other topics aren't voted on by the population, so where's the democracy there? Why have the public decide this particular matter and not all others? So saying that maybe this should not be left up to the people, that isn't saying that they can't decide for themselves, or maybe it is.. but the point is; this is very selective democracy, and the topic selected for the public to decide on is a rather important one. So maybe not the smartest thing. Democracy in that sense can fail to bring about the most desirable outcome, as is seen with this Brexit example. Perhaps have it as a criterion that whatever option is decided upon, at least 66% of the voters should have opted to either leave or stay. This was much closer I believe, basically cutting the population in two equally big parts, which causes this weird internal division. Hence the statement about it no longer being a united Kingdom. It's like having a hall filled with a thousand people, and you then let them democratically decide what they're going to be drinking. They can either have milk, or water. 499 people could be lactose intollerant, so all of them want the water, but the 501 want milk. So they get the milk, but 499 of them are going to have a really bad evening. This vote on the Brexit however shows us how difficult it is for the politicians. If it was left up to the politicians, you'd still have around 50% of the population hating on whatever decision they would have made. So regardless of what they would have chosen, half of the country would still have hated their guts for whatever choice they would have made. Problematic scenario indeed. Whatever they would decide on, it would never be seen as a good thing, not by the population, collectively. So it's almost as if the politicians went: "You know what, let them decide, then they can fight and hate eachother, and we won't have to deal with it." I don't think that's the intention at all, but it's a cute conspiracy theory nonetheless.

    I voted Remain in the referendum (*hides quickly*). I was 18 and it was the first time I'd been able to vote in any sort of political vote. Before I voted, though, I researched what was happening and came to a conclusion I thought was best. I know a lot of people in my age bracket did the same. It was their first public vote and they didn't want to seem stupid. Very few had strong connections to a political party so they weren't influenced by what that party was saying.

      What Kind Of Society Are We?
      Since voting to leave the European Union I have been very disappointed with the amount of people who voted to remain, in particular young people, saying they feel ashamed. Based on the fact that they believe everyone who voted to leave did so because of immigration, even though this isn’t true.
      However I would like to add support to those who voted to leave because of immigration in a sensible manner unlike the sensationalist propaganda thrown at us by both sides in the lead up to the referendum.
      Immigration is essential to any successful economy but as with anything that is successful it has to be controlled and it has to be managed. It is not about colour, it is not about what language you speak, it is not about what country you are from and it is not about religion. It is about numbers. I would ask all those who feel ashamed to think of HHE. I have many friends and acquaintances that have come here from foreign countries and I have the same respect for them as my British friends and colleagues. However the fact is that the number of people wishing, trying and succeeding in coming here is far greater than our infrastructure can cope with. This has put unsustainable demand on our HHE.
      Health: Our Health service is buckling. Stress and moral amongst its multi-cultural workforce is at rock bottom as we struggle to cope with the sheer volume of people who need care. There are many reports that the strain is leading to highly skilled doctors, nurses and surgeons, some who have come from abroad now looking for positions outside of the UK. If we cannot provide adequate care to our citizens no matter where they were originally born then what kind of society are we.
      Housing: We are experiencing housing shortage on a scale that I never thought to see in my lifetime. This has led to a market where young people have little hope of ever owning their own homes while at the same time financially crippling them with rents that are nothing shy of daylight robbery. If we can`t offer our citizens the safety and security of their own home then what kind of society are we.
      Education: Every successful, peaceful and rewarding society needs a good education system. Our classrooms are packed to the rafters, often with children from many different countries who do not speak English as their first language but we don’t train our teachers to be multilingual. As with the health service this is driving some very skilled and educated people away from teaching. If we can’t offer our citizens a good education then what kind of society are we.

    The Pound is on the same levels as it was in Feb. The FTSE is at its best all week.
    The leave vote hurts the Euro the most, that gives us leverage over them. This means we can get the deal we want. Ghana have already approached us for a deal within a few hours, Australia's PM has said he is interested in trading. All of the Commonwealth, particularly Africa is interested in trade.
    As long as the Tories dont fuck it up there are very good and prosperous times ahead.

    Josh says "Democracy doesn't work" and everyone applauds. Even though he was only joking, isn't it amazing how many people hate democracy?And what's Adam the Australian citizen talking about.. Who's he getting Angry with? Why in a democracy would someone get angry with people who have a different view to them? That doesn't sound like he or the audience are very democratic, it sounds like they want to dictate to people who they deem to be less intelligent as them, and call people with different views hateful names and get angry with them. Sounds a bit like bullying, sounds a lot like a dictatorship is what they want and I'm not sure that's a good thing.... Oh and it was really 52% not 51%...He's right though, people have been using food banks for the past few years. 0 hour contracts etc.... And all this has happened inside the EU, so people have thought it can't be any worse to bring about a change. And 2 weeks on, Australia, New Zealand, China and now the USA all want to have free trade deals with us. The markets are raising above pre Brexit levels, the £ started to make a come back. Students might have to get a visa to live and work in other EU countries. Which may take them about 2 hours so stop being lazy.Oh and by the way can people stop confusing Europe with the EU! Europe is 51 countries and the EU is 28 countries. So we still are and will always be in Europe,

Same for remain, people vote out of their own interests, what benefits them. These intelligent professionals in power could do what parents do and ignore the children who demand icecream before bed. But they can't cause the people aren't children, and those in charge are out of touch idiots who have millions stashed away in an off shore account. We were fucked either way.

    that was a pretty good speech, but to answer some of the questions here in the comment, most people assume it was a protest vote because of the geography of the vote, places that were more developed, like cities and high-end towns voted remain in a greater margin than they voted leave, areas where i live, like the south west, North wales, and Northern England mainly voted leave of a huge dissatisfaction with the government, there are videos of people who voted leave explaining this on RUclips. next one, you are right to point out the whole "democracy doesn't work because i didn't get the result i wanted" thing, but honestly tell us you would have backed down if the nation voted remain, in this country there's a law stating even after a referendum of election, a political party/group can continue to protest their point, and considering the mass division of the electorate, a second referendum could have helped to stabilize the country further, or divide it further, but either way, we'd have a clearer image of what'll happen next, and how to approach it. last one, please don't get too toxic, this is a very divisive topic, and the last leg has been pretty balanced on their view in this video, it's just an opinion after all, we don't need to get so violent about it, just calm yourself.

    Could anybody who happens to read this explain something to me? Why is it such a big taboo to say Democracy doesn't work? Or heck, let's take it one step further: for a person to say they want a better system? Isn't the point of the Freedom of Speech that you should be allowed to argue for *anything*? And *especially* the things that are uncomfortable to most people? Speech that (almost) everybody agrees with doesn't need to be protected. It's the fringe voices that do.
    Not that I'm saying there shouldn't be a (very, very small) limit on the Freedom of Speech, mind you. But that is only because any type of Freedom, as paradoxical as it sounds, only works if it's being limited.
    But back to Democracy. I personally think it's heavily flawed. There is very little indication that "the People" actually have sufficient knowledge to be able to make informed estimates as to how their decisions regarding political matters will *actually* affect their lives. That is why we invented the *Representative* Democracy in the first place. We choose people that *represent* us (or at least they are supposed to) and that have the *expertise* to make the decisions that we, ourselves, are ill-equipped to make.
    Not that a Representative Democracy is much better than a Direct one, of course. There is a reason why politicians always turn out to be lying, manipulative bastards (bastards, in this context, is to be taken as a gender neutral term. Although, generally speaking, I have a feeling that women in politics tend to rate *slightly* better in this regard -- but that's beside the point). And it's *not* because "those in power" are inherently corrupt and transferring the vote to "the Demos" would magically make everything better. See my last paragraph for that. It's because a Representative Democracy is not about actual issues facing the population and about how to best resolve those -- instead, it's a *Popularity Contest*. And pretty much anyone who remembers High School knows that Popularity Contests are always won by lying, manipulative bastards
    So, again, the question: why isn't Josh, or anyone else for that matter, allowed to opine that Democracy doesn't work as intended?

      There is no ideal political process, they each have flaws and can be corrupted. The problem with Democracy is it's open to go in unfavourable directions and those who are elected aren't immune to bribery or other forms of corruption. The other end of the spectrum is a Dictatorship which works great if you have a great person in charge, but obviously can go terribly if you don't have a great person in charge. The term (democracy doesn't work) is just taken from a debating format where you point out flaws from one side and ignore the alternatives or flaws from the other side.

    • @lem7998
      @lem7998 8 лет назад

      Unfavorable directions? Compare the unfavorable directions of democracies to that of dictatorships.
      I cant believe people are actually considering a Dictatorship over a democracy. The old may have swung the referendum, but their parents are turning in their graves.

    • @AhsimNreiziev
      @AhsimNreiziev 8 лет назад

      L EM
      From your comments, I take it that you think that History, as found in the History Books, shows that Democracy is wildly favorable over any possible alternative. I'd say that is debatable -- especially considering there are probably loads of Governmental Models (if that is the right term) that simply haven't been invented yet, and therefore wouldn't show up in the History Books -- but OK, let's assume for a moment, for the sake of argument, that this is true.
      That *still* doesn't explain why people aren't even allowed to *argue* against Democracy. An argument for "Democracy is the best, or at least the least bad, Model of Government" is in no way, shape or form an argument for "Democracy as a Model of Government is prohibited from ever being debated". The two simply have nothing to do with one another.
      So, please: stop trying to argue for why Democracy is so great, and instead come up with an argument for why you think it shouldn't even be *debated*.

Especially since 55% voted no to independance two years go, which the SNP said would be 'a once in a lifetime vote'. They're obviously going back on their word. Not only that, but oil prices have gone down which would have been Scotlands only true trading source in the North Sea, but realisticly we would have owned it. Scotlands GDP, along with its tiny arse population and few trading resources would be a shitty country, especially in contrast to England which has always been the centre of strength and power on this little island.

    What I have to say about those people who voted leave
    Racists -_-

      I voted leave, i'm not racist. My vote had nothing to do with immigration. Nothing will change with immigration, look at the interviews with Leavers, and it was very clear that when we arrange new trade deals with the EU, that freedom of movement will continue. There are a lot of other benefits to leaving. We're in a dark phase right now, but we will come out better.

      Listen mate, nice to hear your opinion, but that doesn't mean a lot of people didn't vote because of immigration.

    "Reunite" is a bit intellectually dishonest when speaking of Ireland. The only time it was united was under British rule. Before that there were several kingdoms on the island.

      Keep having referendums until you get the result you want. Were you in the audience that clapped when that guy said democracy doesn't work?

      Democracy is the will of the people, you lost or is it only democracy when you get you're own way.

    • @junklifegames
      @junklifegames 8 лет назад +2

      "Demoocracy is the will of people" yet its around about 50/50 split. There is no significant majority to make the vote fair. There was large remain majority in London, Scotland and N. Ireland. The petition calls for a referendum to be held and a change can only happen if there is a majoirty of 60 % voting either way, remain or leave and a turnout of 75 %.
