That sponge is matching over the filter, to protect it.
@Ovis1892. First of all, thank you very much for the comment!!! I really didn't know what that sponge was used for. I also received it with the other vacuum cleaner for which I bought a separate hepa filter. Thank you!
The sponge is for wet vacuuming. Hepa filter is for dry vacuuming.
