I think we lack comedians talented enough to be as funny with the subject matter as you must be to skate above the PC horseshit. When you get gigs for having the right political opinion, you never have to learn how to make your own mindset and viewpoint incredibly funny. Patrice had no other choice, and as one of the most naturally comedically talented people of all time he made it happen. I don’t expect this from most comedians, because they simply never will be the legend Patrice is. RIP to one of the true greats.

humor is often a shield against the uncomfortable truth. That's why self-deprication is such a big thing in comedy. Sadly, he knew he wouldn't be able to turn shit around, not as easy as shoving that misery into his routine. Funny and sad at the same time is the best comedy as far as I'm concerned. Funerals tend to be better too with a few laughs, for similar reasons - good thing Patrice provided us with more than a few ;)

Patrice was the sharpest knife in comedy. The guy just never stopped. I mean, on O and A, he spent the entire day roasting everybody. It didn't matter if they had Queen Elizabeth on, he'd have roasted her hard. That's why he was a murderer. That's why Bill Burr is as great as he is, because he had to endure that, and had to learn to dish it back. He'll tell you that he couldn't stand up to that, but I think he became a tougher comedian because of it. He's carrying that torch hard.

I had never really heard of Patrice until I saw some other RUclips videos recently; this guy was at least a full decade ahead of the curve for what comics would be facing. The "culture wars" and the battle over whether humor is free speech or not, and what kind of humor constitutes hate speech...? Patrice was thinking about that battle and fighting it at least ten years before it caught up to other comedians. He's scathingly funny! I'm super impressed at how he can make you laugh AND be uncomfortable by thinking about how shallow, weak, and inconsiderate I am as a human being. From what I've seen, he's one of the most honest comedians to hit the stage.

I love re-watching them, but the first time is always my favorite. I just set aside everything I know about comedy and let him kill me. What an effortlessly masterful set. I just love when a comedian's material, delivery, persona, honesty and humanity all come together into one integrated performance with nothing out of place. As soon as I saw "Elephant" I thought, I have got to see this guy in concert...but alas gone way too soon. RIP

The End of the clip when he returns for his ovation is priceless. There real needs to be MORE comedy clubs. Patrice is making people laugh in heaven EVEN in the other state of Hell is hearing the rumbling from Heaven. RIP

I thought I had seen all of Patrices’ specials, the grainy videos, all of them. This is a gift!

Patrice was and is such a legend in comedy, it’s hard to believe any can fill his shoes. It was always amazing to hear the reverence for Patrice from various other sharp, witty, famous road tested comedians talk. They talked about how formidable O’Neil was for THEM - when they got together and start going after each other with competitive trash taking.
Patrice was the undisputed king even in the toughest rooms around. Their is no heir to that crown.

@Alex Dahl it's easy to blame people for stealing jokes but common sense that's just a general idea that people don't get fat overnight may get interpreted in different but similar jokes

I miss this guy so much. Every fucking time I watch one of his sets, or hear his interviews I feel like I lost something I know I can't replace, and I'll probably never find again. My favorite comedian's favorite comedian. Straight legend.
