Listen to the 17:00 minute version. In 1975 that is what we did. When we would hear it on the radio, all us boys went wild. We could not believe our teenage ears.
"Love To Love You, Baby" was extended to almost 17 minutes because people kept wanting to hear it over and over. So, the producer extended it at, I believe, Neil Bogart a record executive for Casablanca Records' request.
The reason the 17 minute recording was made is because that was considered to be the average length of time it took people to make love so they wanted a song that would last through an entire session of love making
THIS SONG MADE HER AN INSTANT SUPERSTAR and fans couldnt get enough of her.,.. the Beyounce of the days....growing up in those days it was all about the queen and the clubs were just jamming... a time for fun and liberation.....weed smokers etc... drugs and sex
Didn’t need no cuss words back then... yet it was helluva sexy... lol it still is! I was 18 when this came out and I remember dancing to that 17 min version at house parties.😘
Sold over 100 million plus albums. Before Beyonce Mariah Madonna and Whitney... There was the one Queen Donna. She was the precursor for all of them. Enjoy!! To answer your question on if it was played?? It went to number 2 on the top 100 charts. I think in 7 years she had over 12 top 10 hits. 1st female artist to have 2 double albums go consecutive to #1. Chech Her Out!!
It was three consecutive #1 double albums. Live and More, Bad Girls, On The Radio: Greatest Hits. And she's the only artist with this distinction, male or female, group or solo.
Lol I remember this song and my.Mom.would always say turn that dirty song off, or am going to get the belt. Mind you I was only 5 when that song came out. Lol.
The 70's were the sex liberation decade, so that was the perfect song for that era. During the video you said "need a man blues"...well, in the Love To Love You Baby album Donna recorded a song exactly with that title, "Need-A-Man-Blues", please react to that one, too ;-)
Let's just say this was the WAP of 1976. My grandma would yell at my aunty's...."TURN THAT OFF, RIGHT NOW"! It was fire and people were uncomfortable...LOL.
Back in the day Donna Summer sold records like hotcakes Love to Love You Baby with the start of her career that put her on the map she was off and running
As a solo artist, Donna Summer was The Queen of Disco and has the catalog of hits to prove it. In that particular genre, she was in competition amongst Legendary groups The Bee Gees_and ABBA, both were from Australia. Additionally, Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" album was released during the disco era and includes Bops with a disco flare...i.e. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough...

THIS is how you do a sexy song with CLASS!!! Long live Disco and Donna Summer!! Skated my A$$ off to this 💖 Oh yes, we heard it; I was about 10 and embarrassed but loved it to death!
She was a major hitmaker in the second half of the seventies. The song that blows most people's minds today is "I Feel Love" from 1977, one of the first hits for electronic music and still a stunning song today.
I had the Album when this Song was out. One whole side was this Song. I lived at home with my Father. I would only play it when he was at work. Needless to say if he had heard it it would not have gone over well at all.
She was so ahead of her time, she was really moaning on a track!! this song was sampled by Beyoncé for her 2003 "Naughty Girl" song. You should check "Hot Stuff" her biggest hit.
Donna Summer talked about this song more in-depth over the years in interviews. She even stated that, she really did it as a joke, pretending to be the 50s movie star Marilyn Monroe during the original recording session and thought the song wouldn't even be release to the public. She even recommend that the song be sung by another artist, since she wasn't under contract yet during that time.
Yes that was her thought, that another girl should sing it, and her recording only to be used as a demo. After the recording she spent a month in hospital and another month in bed at home, then went on a 10 days cruise. When she got home she had a shock when she found out they made it into a record, and another shock when she learned that the record was already out, and she had to travel to USA in a hurry, thinking she would talk with the press and play the song in a couple of discos. So the third shock came when she learned that the song was already being played in the radio and was already a big hit. She literally from one moment to another had her life turned upside down, with no warnign at all.
Donna Summer was underrated in her time. No one could do Love To Love You Baby like she could. The song was controversial when it came out but, disco was all about being sexy.
Donna included different sounds on all of her albums. In fact before she released the bad girls album they released the single Hot Stuff without her name on it because it was a rock ‘n’ roll track and she wanted to make inroads into other types of music. A lot of people only give Giorgio Moroder the credit but if it wasn’t for Donna there would be no Giorgio if there was no Giorgio there would be no Donna. She won best female rock vocalist for hard stuff she won best R&B vocalist for Bad Girls
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Donna Summer had the best vocals even when she sang live, one interesting fact regarding Donna, was that she never wanted to be a sexy singer, specially when she was the daughter of very religious parents. Giorgio Moroder, came up with the music, as she went to a dark room in the studio and began her sexy chant, she got inspired by Marilyn Monroe and sang the song. I went to 3 of her concerts & she was AMAZING, here's a link of a live performance singing "MacArthur's Park" enjoy.... ruclips.net/video/gcC3VT67HfI/видео.html
The song to number 2 on the hot 100 but was band and made Donna a huge star. The gave the title First Lady Of Love after this. Donna is the queen of disco. She opened the door for not just black women but women in general. Without Donna there would have been no Madonna, Janet Jackson or Kylie Minogue. Donna is so missed.
The version without the piano solo or the part without that ending. Much more moans. It climbed to number 2 on the Billboard Top 100. Can you imagine listening to this as a 12 year old? It was puberty inducing.
I loved your reaction. I thought the same thing the first time I heard it when I was about 15. One of the sexiest songs ever. I hope you listen to more Donna. She was the First Lady of Love. You could do worse for your first.
Young man, yes, this was allowed to be played on radio back in the day. If Marlboro and Camel billboard ads were all over the highway back in the day, this certainly was allowed to play. Lol..
Beyonce: ruclips.net/video/RZuJ_OHBN78/видео.html This song changed so much in the music industry. Legend goes that Summer recorded it as a demo for another singer to sing. She had this idea for a song with the title Love to love you baby. There were no lyrics written and she add libbed it while recording. Mororder, the producer send the song to Tommy Mottola from Casablanca records and at one of his orgy parties he played the song for his guests. They kept saying to play it again, and again and again, so Mottola called Moroder and asked him for a longer version. This became the 17 minute version of this song. The song was released as a single and became a number 2 hit on the BB charts without Summer knowing about it. It launched her career and she became one of the biggest selling female artists of all time. She's also seen by her peers as one of the best female pop singers ever. The voice you hear here is her whipsery voice, but she has one of the biggest and strongest voices imagionable with perfect technique and breath control. She also holds the record for holding the longest straight note on a hit single.
Casablanca Records president's name was Neil Bogart, not Tommy Mottola, who bought the rights and retooled the defunded Casablanca records in 2007. The party at which Neil Bogart played the song, was sensationalized by the British press as an orgy. No one is saying parties were not wild in the 70s, but we all know what orgies are; leave your clothes at the door. I hardly think guest at an orgy would be worrying about music ! Regardless it was Neil Bogarts idea to extend the song, the song was # 2 on the pop chart Valentines Day 1976.
Yes it was played on the radio stations I think in the beginning it took off in the night clubs especially black night clubs and gay night clubs and they would play it late at night and it’s still got to the top of the charts
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ DONNA SUMMER... The lyrics of this song were written by her, and this sing came out first for a commercial people went crazy for it & wanted to know who was she. Donna was in Germany even though she was American she was on tour with the production of "HAIR" at the time and they brought her back to the states and the rest is history. In answer to your question, when it came on the radio everyone was shocked!!! but loved it. I recall my grandmother saying when I played it in my house she said "Damn she must be in pain or in Ecstasy, but I love it" You should see how the dance floor would get crowded when this song came on, great memories!!!
Hun do the extended version...can ya yungins last through it? 😂😂 First of all how would we know it unless we heard it on the radio...there was absolutely no internet.then let alone RUclips!😂
They played this in the clubs radio at that time wouldn't play this they got hassle if they did could you imagine going into the supermarket and shes having organism
This song is a classic. I'm glad you listened to the right version as opposed to the butchered 3 minute radio edit version. Of course the 17 minute version is the best. This this is the next best version.
Yes it was played on the radio usually in a butchered three minute length, but at the time there were dance music stations that play the entire 17 minute version later in her career she refused to sing this song anymore she became a Christian, and she still put out amazing music but she didn't feel right singing this song anymore period then she started singing it again but she took out the moaning and groaning. She used to tell the story of recording this song. She said she had to be alone in a dark recording booth by herself. She lied on the floor and made all of those sounds. She consider this to be a novelty song, and she never really liked it but it was a huge hit for her.
No the radio banned it in Europe only the shortened radio edit was allowed to be played on the airwaves anybody that had it at home could though the 17 minute mix is even more risqué.
This song is a classic. I'm glad you listened to the right version as opposed to the butchered 3 minute radio edit version. Of course the 17 minute version is the best. But this is the next best version. Beyonce sampled it on a track called 'Naughty Girl'
Giovanni Giorgio. Was the music behind her. He was the innovater of what we know now as electronic music. Basically the first to put a "click" thru his synth which changed everything. Daft Punk gives him a big homage and put him on a track from their 2014 Random Access Memories album. Im sure you at least heard the single off it" get lucky" w/pharrell on vocals. That album got 4 grammies. Giorgio tells his story in the song "giorgio by moroder" his best known donna summer and probably most recognizable song was " i feel love" ...
@@lamusiclover2264 ya professionally.. His actual name is Giovanni.. Moroder refers to his synthesizer..(i stand corrected) read on. Moroder synth came after...is interesting. Listen to the 3rd track on daft punk random access memories.. He refers to himself by his birth name not his stagename. But feel free to use either. Im sure he doesn't care
The track is an homage to him and he tells a little story of himself.. He ends it by saying. my name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everyone calls me,,, Giorgio...
Did some Wikipedia research. Actually were both right His full name is Giovanni Giorgio Moroder. I always assumed moroder was referring to his synth at the time, but that name was given to a line probably his or branded because of his popularity . So we both learned something new. I grew up in the 70's and got into synthesizer and remember the Moroder. Knew of him then found out his 1st name was Giovanni late 80's interview. Since then just assumed the Moroder was because of the synth brand, but just the opposite..he came 1st then branded out.. Cool.ruclips.net/video/irSQc28W6do/видео.html Link to a moroder(approved) synth
@@jasonuvartfeather369 yes Moroder is his last name I don't know the names of all the synths of that time, I just know the Moog but he was beyond that. But I'm not surprised that a synthesizer was named for him because he pretty much is the father of EDM. He and Kraftwerk.
I'm sure you have HAD to have heard Donna before. Bad Girls, Hot Stuff, Last Dance, MacArthur Park, She Works Hard for the Money?? This song is where she got her start. There is actually a 17 minute version of this song. It was banned in some countries because of the sexual nature (Her moaning) but in the Discos here in the US is where it took off and so did her career. It was disco and meant for dancing and getting lost in its hypnotic instrumentals. Plus remember it was all about sex and drugs and having a good time in the 70's so you could REALLY get lost in all of this lol!!
@@jayrahvisions Really?? Oh that's too bad. It was such a fun time with fun music. If you don't like to dance, then that would be understandable. Donna is credited for really starting dance music because of her ground breaking recordings. Try her I Feel Love song as well. That song has been sampled over and over in a lot of songs because of the techno beat and synthesizers and was another ground breaking song for her and for dance music. Donna paved the way for a lot of female artists, even today.
@@jayrahvisions She became famous in the Disco era, but if you look into her music catalog, you will find that she recorded songs in various music genres, winning Grammy awards in R&B, Dance and Rock. You can also find her on RUclips singing Country with country star, Eddie Rabbit.
The long version - ruclips.net/video/V5AztWseIdU/видео.html&ab_channel=oirad1962 - lots of moaning! Yes we played it all the time! Look up more of the Producer Giorgio Moroder. His music is awesome.
Yeah, this was a huge hit, was played everywhere in '76. This version is longer than the version played on the radio, but the radio version had just as much moaning. Though it was a huge hit, it wasn't her biggest and, in my opinion, not one of her best.
Also, this song's heavy-sex theme wasn't that unusual at the time. Barry White had a few hits around this time that also were heavy on the straight bedroom talk, especially a song called "Baby Blues." And the same year of this song, Diana Ross had a great hit called "Love Hangover" that skirted similar territory, not to mention the Andrea True Connection's hit "More, More, More," also from 1976, Andrea True being a porn star. This song was far from alone at the time.
colibri1 Yeah but that happened all after Donna released this. Plus female sexuality was rarely explored compared to male so this was quite a revolutionary record. Macarthur Park Suite was her peak. 16 min and she did it all in one take, absolutely underrated voice.

This was a huge hit and was always on the radio. When I hear it now, I’m surprised it was because it is rather raunchy
Great song !!!! You should try " love on the beat " sung by serge gainsbourg on the album "love on the beat. Pretty sur you ll like it.
No the radio banned it in Europe only the shortened radio edit was allowed to be played on the airwaves anybody that had it at home could though the 17 minute mix is even more risqué.
This is one of her remakes you should listen to the original one that's 17 minutes long it's one side of a whole album
That was fire... L2LUBaby
Please, 77 live version, in Italy.
react to Donna Summer, Hot Stuff, ,Last Dance, Heaven Knows.
Watch live 76 from Germany this song
His name is Giorgio Moroder not Giovanni Giorgio
@@lamusiclover2264 ya professionally.. His actual name is Giovanni.. Moroder refers to his synthesizer..(i stand corrected) read on. Moroder synth came after...is interesting. Listen to the 3rd track on daft punk random access memories.. He refers to himself by his birth name not his stagename. But feel free to use either. Im sure he doesn't care
The track is an homage to him and he tells a little story of himself.. He ends it by saying. my name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everyone calls me,,, Giorgio...
Did some Wikipedia research. Actually were both right
His full name is Giovanni Giorgio Moroder.
Cool.ruclips.net/video/irSQc28W6do/видео.html
Link to a moroder(approved) synth
Surprisingly I never have heard not something I was introduced to then again I'm not big into the disco era.
TLC ,Digital Underground, No Doubt ,Beyonce all sampled this song.
Beyonce sampled this song in "Naughty Girl" which was excellent.
Beyonce also sampled her song I feel love for her newest album.
The long version - ruclips.net/video/V5AztWseIdU/видео.html&ab_channel=oirad1962 - lots of moaning!
Yes we played it all the time! Look up more of the Producer Giorgio Moroder. His music is awesome.
Beyonce naughty girls sampled this song Love to Love You Baby
"Back in my day, music wasn't so overtly sexual!"
I'm sure the madonna version bits
If you like freaky tunes try relax by frankie goes to hollywood (after awhile it was banned from radio and tv in the uk although reaching number 1
You need to hear the long version. And Beyonce's version Naaaaah it aint hit like this.
Why do I feel like Timbaland and Magoo used for their song ???.
This was banded from the radio stations.
But its the most SEXIST record ever.
Banned in England.
Imagine if they had some of the stuff we hear today lol
Those darn pesky nose hairs🤣🤣🤣
