I've wanted to do ballet since I was 10-11 but my parents didn't allow it, they didn't believe in me and said I'm too old to do ballet. I think that was the point when I started to hide my plans and my dreams from them. Time passed and I suppressed my ballet dreams but deep down I was still fond of ballet. Now I'm 19 I moved out from my parents and I've started to attend ballet classes. (I've been doing it for 3 months) And it's hard, physically and emotionally too. To see that everybody is better than you, struggling to keep up with the others, to try your best even if you feel that you're the worst in your class. Nevertheless I always go back to the barre because I love ballet and I wanna be better and I cannot give up.
It's hard to start it as an adult but I'm so happy to finally my dreams come true.
Honestly I’m so proud of you for following your dreams and continuing to keep working at something you’re passionate about despite others not believing in you. You are a true inspiration! I’m definitely going to starting following my dreams too, thank you!!
i want to say you are a true inspiration to me. i’ve moved around a lot through my childhood and now i’m in my late teens. because of this i had to bounce around studios and i definitely fell behind. it’s really hard to do classes with 10 year olds but it’s just what you have to do to catch up! you’re so strong💗
You are very brave for doing that. All I've ever wanted was to dance but there was no way for me to ever even try it. I'm 20 now and I will most likely never start because of insecurities which makes your story even more inspiring :) Keep it up, you'll get a little bit better with every lesson

I had a similar story. Always wanted to do ballet but my parents didn't support it (because of cost and prejudices regarding body development). Started at 19 through University, now I'm 24 and just started Pointe three months ago. I know it's hard, but it's also so worth it. You can do it!

Omg Luna thank you for talking about body dysmorphia when it come to ballet. I have been dancing since I was two and already being a black girl at an all white ballet school was very uncomfortable but also having a curvy body made me feel like I stuck out more. I remember my ballet teacher telling me to lose weight so I could lose my hips, when they would measure me for costumes it was always “she has big hips so change her bottom size”. Which was so off putting cause here I am at school and people would tell me I’m an hourglass shape and they wish, they had my hips. But when I would go to ballet it was looked down upon almost because I wasn’t skinny with no hips. But now I still take classes and I have learned to love my body because it can do so much but your videos have made feel seen when it comes to my body Dysmorphia. Thank you 😊
I am white, so can't fully understand but yes on the curviness!! I got boobs and hips young and so was deemed "fat" in ballet when my body just is curvy naturally! So glad you've kept your love of dance and your body though x

For people wanting to start ballet at a later age: I'm 22 and I started lessons last september. There's adult classes at different levels at my studio, so the beginners class is perfect for me. I love it so much and I already improved a lot! So I hiiiiiigly recommend to at least try it to anyone who's been doubting

I’m so happy for you getting back into ballet! I had to leave because the environment was toxic for me but I’ve been getting back into that world through playing violin! I’ll be playing in the first violin section in the orchestra for the Eugene Ballet’s Nutcracker! I also played for Cinderella :)
So happy to see these videos again. They brought me to Luna a few years ago and inspired me to pick up ballet in my 20s. I am happy to get a dose of inspiration again :)

To the ones wanting to take up ballet as adults: I'm 24 years old, and have been taking ballet for over 2 years now. I'm now on the elementar II group, which is the 3rd level at my dance studio. My professor is amazing, she used to be a professional ballerina in her days, and now she owns the studio. Her studio is huge, has a ton of teachers, and she only teaches 2 classes: the last level of aspiring professional ballerinas, pointe classes (17 years old max.) and the class for adults. And she has said a bunch of times why she absolutely LOVES teaching adults.
1) They ALL started it because they genuinely love the art, which makes the class really enjoyable. I.e unlike sometimes when are kids crying because they do not feel like taking class, but have no other choice because of their parents.
2) they always give 100% of what they do;
3) she is always amazed by the progress they make, and since it's not really a competition, she never deals with heartbreaks, which is the one thing she hates to see with young ballerinas.
4) they don't quit on the basis of feeling they're not really talented (again with the heartbreaks, sometimes with young girls who unfortunately are unable to go pro), because all they want to do is be a better version of themselves.
I'm always surprising myself with little things, such as being able to do a higher grand batement, or go a little lower with my splits :) I love being able to just enjoy myself and do a thing I find beautiful, without stressing about this highly competitive world.
In my class there are adults from all ages, from 18 to in their 40s and 50s. My teacher said in the beginning of 2022 some of us might be able to start using pointe if we want to, since we're doing such great progress

Since I was young I have been in love with Ballet but we were too poor to put me in lessons, however I didn't let that take my love and fascination away. I have watched almost every single documentary about Ballet and have learned so much because I admire Ballet dancers. I hope someday my child will have the choice to dance if they want to, and if not I will still love em and let them follow their own passions... don't know why I got so personal.

Band practice tonight was halted because the instruments stopped working. It was zero degrees C according to my car and we were playing in a conservatory with all the doors and windows open for COVID ventilation. I’m now in bed with two hot water bottles.
