This is super insightful. Thank you, Casey. For affilate sites, what approach would you do to balance affilate product display boxes and the ad network blocks? Is it better to exclusively focus on either ads (for informational posts) or affialiates only (for product review posts)?

Thanks for watching! If a site is earning most of its money from affiliate income I wouldn’t worry about this. This is mostly for sites that are pure info sites. Also, most affiliate programs/products tend to use fairly brand safe copy. And even if a few words slipped in that weren’t ideal, you are still probably fine because affiliate copy is usually succinct and well written, so it won’t contain any keyword a ton of times. I mix in both monetization models on most of my sites, and rarely is it the affiliate posts that seem to contain these unsafe brand keywords.

wow the biggest takeaway for me were the problematic keywords. I always felt like my RPMs were low compared to a lot of other people even though my niche is pretty decent. I tend to use such words to put emphasis on a point such as "Getting enough sleep is EXTREMEly important. Studies have found that lack of sleep can K*LL your S*X drive." or "Social media and P*RN ADDICTION can play a role in causing depressive episodes". Now I know where I messed up lol. One question... Does censoring these words help like I just did in this comment?

It can help but generally these advertisers enter all sorts of kw variations so it would be best to reword the content altogether. Sometimes this is simply not possible or it makes it too hard for reader to follow. But Id definitely make sure you aren’t using these words unnecessarily. And if an article contains a ton of them, check to see how much that article is bringing in. It may be best to remove it altogether if the rest of your content is otherwise “brand safe”

@@CaseyBotticello That makes sense. Guess I have some editing to do :) Thanks a lot Casey. The subtle insights in your videos are very unique. Even though I've been into blogging for a couple years and took some courses yet I always find myself learning something of great value from each of your videos.

Casey, how come I cannot see the position for the queries in my GSC? You have CTR and Position in yours but I only have clicks and impressions? Is it a setting that needs to be set?

Click the “Search Results” tab under “Performance” on the left hand navigation bar and you’ll see something similar. By default you are under Overview (first option in the menu) but I find this view less useful. Hope that helps!

@@CaseyBotticello Thank you. I actually do not have that. I have Overview, Performance, and Url inspection. Then there is the indexing tab which has pages, sitemaps and removals. That is why I asked because I do not get the same results that you and the others get and there is nothing under the performance tab. When I click on that, it just shows the clicks and impressions. No search results under the performance tab!
