We have to realize we are in a time of dajjal and there are many subtle fitnaas surrounding us. Buying/intimidating/ threatening scholars is not unusual, it has been happening since ages. All I said was “be careful.’ He is an influential scholar who has a charismatic personality but I will from now on take anything he says with a grain of salt knowing that what he says may be influenced by things other than just Islam. I think Hamza Yusuf will have to be honest. Islam has got love, compassion, mercy as well as fighting and war against evil. Don't sugar coat just tell as it is Al-Baqarah 2:42 وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ English - Sahih International And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].
Hamza Yusuf is my first Shaykh and highly revere his influence on my revival of faith, but it's important to express what he may not have, given his own reasons or theological leanings. Islam may be optimistically pacifist, but it's not absolutely pacifist faith, so a supple take on Palestinian resistance is being partial with total Islamic theology. Vengeance is allowed if not as appreciated as forgiveness, but so long it's judicial, because you have to answer for every injustice. It is fair to defend self-respect and physical and spiritual freedom with sword (from your first to actual sword, whatever does the job) if you run out of the other active option i.e. raising your voice. And yes, you can't execute a family for a family, the just response to that is executing the executioner only. Jihad against self-ego is the spiritual Jihad, which is surely fair and valid and the highest form, but not the only form. The other two are social Jihad. Anyone having a social presence, expressing and exercising the Truth is contributing to political aspect of social Jihad. Anyone "rightfully" exercising physical force with socio-economic ramifications is exercising violent Jihad, because obviously there's a difference between shouting at someone and slapping them, latter being the crossing of threshold into definition of violence. Palestinians are doing all three forms of Jihad, the Abel way by simply not leaving ground and welcoming death, the way of the voice although they are completely cut-off from the world, and very few are armed up, naturally those fighting with force are called terrorists by the west, this is called Chutzpah, i.e. pre-emptively give the adjectives you possess to your victim, and its very easy to do when you also control media, and a trait that naturally comes to the oppressor. Putting the history of Palestine in context and illegality of the Apartheid state of Israel, Palestinians do not only have the right to fight in all manners, but to also take back all of the Palestine, enslave (while upholding rights of slaves) the settlers, and go further to use them as leverage and take control of global assets of those settlers, and further pressurise their allies to negotiate recompense for their global oppression in all countries. I myself and definitely many other muslims have a great respect towards Sheikh Hamza Yusuf for the big efforts he is giving out to the muslims community, and also the non-muslims communities. We can see how his love of Allah, prophet mohammed pbuh, and the religion of Islam had him be a great speaker and influencer especially in a believe matter. I wish I can meet him personally one day. I find this interview very saddening as Inhave great repect for Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, but he comes across as way too apologetic . He fails to ask why Jews and Judaism is never put inder thr same scrutiny despite the fact the % of jews who adhere to extremist views in comparison to thier population is shockingly high.
His views on Israel/Palestine conflict have always been a little screwed if you ask me. His views on this particular political aspect has driven me away from his lectures. I can smell sth there. We need to be cautious from whom we’re getting our religious knowledge. Israel has bought scholars too and given the job to win the trust of people and then influence them according to Israel wishes. @@delilahmertoglu Yes suspicion is prohibited in Islam but we are talking about an influential scholar here… I did mention that Iam not sure about him being paid or even harassed by Israel (or pro Israel organizations/establishment) but this is not a possibility that can be completely ruled out. We have to realize we are in a time of dajjal and there are many subtle fitnaas surrounding us. Buying/intimidating/ threatening scholars is not unusual, it has been happening since ages. All I said was “be careful.’ He is an influential scholar who has a charismatic personality but I will from now on take anything he says with a grain of salt knowing that what he says may be influenced by things other than just Islam. Hamza Yusuf is my first Shaykh and highly revere his influence on my revival of faith, but it's important to express what he may not have, given his own reasons or theological leanings. Islam may be optimistically pacifist, but it's not absolutely pacifist faith, so a supple take on Palestinian resistance is being partial with total Islamic theology. Vengeance is allowed if not as appreciated as forgiveness, but so long it's judicial, because you have to answer for every injustice. It is fair to defend self-respect and physical and spiritual freedom with sword (from your first to actual sword, whatever does the job) if you run out of the other active option i.e. raising your voice. And yes, you can't execute a family for a family, the just response to that is executing the executioner only.
Jihad against self-ego is the spiritual Jihad, which is surely fair and valid and the highest form, but not the only form. The other two are social Jihad. Anyone having a social presence, expressing and exercising the Truth is contributing to political aspect of social Jihad. Anyone "rightfully" exercising physical force with socio-economic ramifications is exercising violent Jihad, because obviously there's a difference between shouting at someone and slapping them, latter being the crossing of threshold into definition of violence.
Palestinians are doing all three forms of Jihad, the Abel way by simply not leaving ground and welcoming death, the way of the voice although they are completely cut-off from the world, and very few are armed up, naturally those fighting with force are called terrorists by the west, this is called Chutzpah, i.e. pre-emptively give the adjectives you possess to your victim, and its very easy to do when you also control media, and a trait that naturally comes to the oppressor.
Putting the history of Palestine in context and illegality of the Apartheid state of Israel, Palestinians do not only have the right to fight in all manners, but to also take back all of the Palestine, enslave (while upholding rights of slaves) the settlers, and go further to use them as leverage and take control of global assets of those settlers, and further pressurise their allies to negotiate recompense for their global oppression in all countries. There is enough precedence from times of Prophet for that. Oppression is not only to be fought against, taking charge and punishing the oppressor is Haq, it's mandatory on a Muslim.

I myself and definitely many other muslims have a great respect towards Sheikh Hamza Yusuf for the big efforts he is giving out to the muslims community, and also the non-muslims communities. We can see how his love of Allah, prophet mohammed pbuh, and the religion of Islam had him be a great speaker and influencer especially in a believe matter. I wish I can meet him personally one day. Doesn’t the host know that latest information about this allegation said that 80% of the civilian deaths was caused by IDF fire intentionally or accidentally.
