  • The Air Traffic Skills Assessment (or ATSA Test) is the most crucial step in the FAA Air Traffic Pre-Employment Testing. To get into the ATC academy, you must score high on this test. For more info, tips, and samples, visit www.jobtestprep.com/at-sat-te...
    In the FAA hiring process, you will face many different screening stages, including medical, physical, and psychological tests. However, the main screening step is the Air Traffic Skills Assessment, aimed to predict if you can make it as an Air Traffic Control Specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration.
    The ATSA test is about 3.5 hours long and is broken down into 7 subtests:
    1. 1st Memory Game - Differences
    2. 2nd Memory Game - Variables
    3. Spatial/Visual Relationship
    4. ATC Radar Simulation
    5. Logical Reasoning Word Problems
    6. Personality Test
    7. Reading Comprehension
    The first 4 tests are gamified, while the last three tests are not.
    In this video, Arbel will break down the ATSA test:
    00:00 - What Is the ATSA Test?
    00:30 - How to Become an ATC Specialist

    Logical reasoning & Reading Comprehension are definitely the more difficult portions of the exam. It’s mainly cause of the amount of time you have to complete them and the longevity of each question. The exam also explained that they wanted the word problems to be difficult, but other than that everybody should do excellent on the exam

So the start date i believe comes in after your get your security clearance and then when the next available classes are. I received an offer from another offer from an aerospace company and decided to pursue that route. I applied for the ATC kind of as a joke to see if I could get in, no offense, but to my surprise, I got the offer. The security clearance is still being processed through my other company. I hear that process could take like up to 2 years. So it'll be awhile before you can get that official start date. Good luck if you go down the ATC route.

  • @calebcharelus8169
    @calebcharelus8169 2 года назад +1

    Hello! I am currently practicing for my ATSA test coming up and I had a few questions that maybe you could answer:
    1. What is the desired percentage score for the Collision Avoidance Success Rate and the Reroute Efficiency Rate on the ATSA Collision Simulation?
    2. What other techniques are there for the 2nd Memory Game - Variables? The "left hand, chest, right hand" technique works until I get to the harder parts then I find myself slowing down quite a bit.
    These are the two that I am struggling with the most. I appreciate any help! Thank you!

    • @calebcharelus8169
      @calebcharelus8169 2 года назад

      One more question, how long is each section of the test? I know its 3-3.5hrs long but how long do you get for each subtest?

    • @JobtestprepUk
      @JobtestprepUk  2 года назад +2

      @@calebcharelus8169 I'll try to answer all of your questions. I hope there's still time.
      1. I'm afraid the FAA doesn't release any score reports or data about the collision simulator, but I can tell you that our hardest mode is harder than the real test so if you can get to 70%-80% Collision Avoidance Success Rate you can really ace the test. one of our customers wrote on the pointsixtyfive forum:
      "I was practicing Job’s collision sim for five minutes tops on the most difficult setting, and I was getting anywhere from 70-80% collision avoidance and 55-65% efficiency" and that he "had a total of 5 collisions on both sections of the test, not on each section". You can find his post here, it contains a full breakdown of the test - pointsixtyfive.com/xenforo/threads/faa-ato-21-allsrce-73599.4714/page-28#post-129335
      2. Some candidates suggested saying out loud or mouthing silently the variables and equations and you can even tap yourself while saying the words. Like I said in the video, the most important thing is to practice the technique that works for you and not try to invent something new on the actual test.
      3. Some of the sections are not timed, like the personality test, and some of the games are limited but not exactly timed - they just have a number of rounds.
      The timed sections that I know of are the reading comprehension and the logical reasoning sections, I'm not sure exactly how long.
      The first memory game is said to be 8 rounds, each about 2 minutes.
      I'm afraid I don't know a lot more of the exact times, but yes, the total time is 2 hours and 49 minutes, and you have another 30 minutes of break time, that you can divide however you want it. Some candidates mentioned that they didn't want too many breaks as it interrupted their concentration.
      You can read more about the ATSA on this forum which is very helpful - pointsixtyfive.com/xenforo/threads/atsa-compilation.545/

    I’m currently going back for my second ATSA to improve my score. Last time, the hardest part for me was the images game. The number of variables to account for within two seconds was too great. You have to identify the reference point, identify the question point, decided if it’s right or left of the reference, read the prompt Left? or Right?, then decided if it’s true or false. Two seconds! Then, in part two, you add the extra step “if there’s an eyeball, answer the opposite of what you would have in Part One.”
    It’s truly agonizing. Oh well. Hoping to do better this go around.

      Fully Qualified means that you are able to work actual, live, daily air traffic Alone with no help or supervision.
      At slower facilities this could take several months and the busier facilities can take upwards of three years.
      A little advice for all of you considering becoming an air traffic controller:
      You will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
      You have to think that being an Air Traffic Controller is the COOLEST most EXCITING thing you could possibly do.
      You have to WANT to be a controller.
      If you’re just looking for a paycheck, find something else.
      -32 year FAA controller
      And despite all of the Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas mornings, New Year’s Eve parties, and Super Bowls that I missed, I’d do it all again

So I went though each question where it shows you the explanation. I feel like it’s more of a game and less answering honestly. I then redid the test 2 more times and still scored 3/10. I’ve scored well on other types of personally tests, as far as having a good personality for the job. I’m currently a 911 Dispatcher in a busy center so I truly believe I possess the right traits and skills to be an ATC Specialist. Any tips are greatly appreciated!

      I am sorry to hear about your experience, personality tests can often be frustrating. The most important tip when completing personality tests is knowing which are the key qualities for your role and recognizing the statements that assess them. Since the ATSA personality test instructs you to choose statements that best describe you among several options, you should first identify which items express the key characteristics for your job, and favor those over other possible answers.
      In our full preparation, we have created a practice test and guide to help you choose answers that best reflect your strengths for the role.
      I hope this helps, best of luck!

The rest of it I felt pretty confident in. I struggled with the logical reasoning on the test prep but the real test was easier I think. • @ashleytollison8085
      @ashleytollison8085 Год назад +3

      They will give you two numbers 3 and 6 and you have to type the difference. So the difference between 3 and 6 would be 3 then they will give you a new number like 4 and you would need to type the difference between 4 and 6 which is 2. Always use the last number they gave you and not the last number that you entered. so if they gave you another number after the last set of numbers which were 4 and 6 = 2 and they give you 5 you would give the difference between 6 and 5 which is 1.
      I'm not sure if this helps at all however there is an app called ATSAPro that you can download on your phone that has the practice for this section if you need and is i believe i paid about 10 bucks on the google play store for if you don't have any of the other programs... it helps a lot. ( the picture of the app is black and gray much like with a place and dots) Also before you start each section of the test, The program allows you to take the practice test as many times as you'd like before taking each section. Just be careful not to overwhelm yourself with too much practice between sections on the test.

      The practice test is smooth and nice to look at. The actual test is like it's on windows 96. The prep test does a great job in preparing you for every portion except the visual awareness left right test and the personality test. The collision portion is waaay easier than expected. You see the collision coming from a mile away. And the math questions in that collision portion are easy as well. Btw the math questions part asks you to press "A,S,D or F" to select the answer, you don't click on it with your mouse.
      All the math and visuals/collision stuff is first then it's the personality reading and reasoning. Each section lets you take as many practice tests as you want before taking the actual test except the personality I think.

Radar sim I think I did pretty good but the formatting was a bit different on the real test. In each new round the dots just pop up in the middle of the screen and most of them were heading directly for eachother, you had very little time to react. This was the biggest contrast to the practice material where the dots just randomly enter the screen from different areas. So I had a few collisions on the harder portions on the real test. But overall I think I did ok. Reading comprehension and personality test were pretty accurate. The Logic/Deductive reasoning was by far the hardest on the real test, way tougher than your material.

Anyways from what I've seen online, reddit, they're going to select from the well-qualified and best-qualified pool first and if there are any positions remaining, which there should be because the industry is in need of controllers, they'll look into the qualified pool. Hopefully you have an atc degrees/certificate or military experience or even work experience that can boost your chances. I hope they look at percentages and not just the category because someone who is considered qualified may have scored an 84.5% which is just under what is needed to become well qualified.
