    I know it's an old video but still relevant to this day. I just did my SOVA test and your insights really helped me. I kept thinking though, how do these tests correlate to a better employee, especially the logical reasoning test. have there been reliable studies on the matter? My test didn't have a time limit but they say you should complete with 15 minutes, which is impossible without hours of training. Even the verbal reasoning seems to be less relevant for higher level positions: they force you to only read the text and not take in your actual life experience and knowledge. I had to constantly remind myself to focus on the text only and even if my experience told me the answer was obvious, I had to stick to the text.

    C, B, C. First one: one line less in vertical and horizontal. Last figure shows 7 and 7, so you're looking for the one with 6 and 6 (C). Second one: the ratio is 2:1 between the circles in the different pictures (figure 1 as 2, figure 3 has 4, figure 4 has 6). So you want one with two circles in. At this point, you notice that the pattern is always full and stripes. Last thing to notice is the direction of the stripes, which is always in alternation (B). Last one: the small square inside the figure always rotates of 90 degrees. The pattern inside the figures is in alternation (stripes up, stripes down), as well as the direction of the stripes inside the circle (right-left). So the answer is C. Am I correct?

    Let's go back to the given task, the answer is "C". From the pattern each line from horizontal to vertical consists of ten (10) lines and for each option a single line is removed from horizontal to vertical. Therefore, from the lines in the question, I'll say 'C' is the correct answer because, it is 6 lines vertical and horizontal.

Could you perhaps explain to me why this (D) is the wrong answer?

      Late but look how the stripes are angled in question 2. They alternate through each picture, which is why it would be B, the stripes face left, following the pattern of the stripes facing towards the right and left alternating.

    Little doubt about example #2:
    Rule 2 is based on the observation that the element having more angles is shaded.
    Now, I could have found out a different "Rule 2*": In every figure we must have a small triangle.
    There is no reason to prefer rule 2 to rule 2*, it's just depending on which property we find out first.
    This is a problem, because solution B satisfies rule 2 but not rule 2*, the other way around solution A satisfies rule 2* but not rule 2.
    In conclusion, I can't figure out how I should give priority to a certain rule or to the other.

    • @AutoRiff
      @AutoRiff 2 года назад +1

      Because the 2* solution foregoes the rule where the final shape in the previous square becomes the first shape in the next square. I think. As a last resort, I'll prioritize the solution that incorporates the most number of rules that logically follow a sequence.

    • @samgrutzius686
      @samgrutzius686 Год назад +1

      I thought the same thing, my rules were all of them need to have a small triangle in it, 2nd was the shaded shape never repeats, and that the last one is the first one in the next.

    • @ulizez89
      @ulizez89 Месяц назад

      That's what I thought too. There are at least two different patterns, equally valid, that lead to a different outcome. And in fact, if you follow all the patterns, then you are left with no correct choice!!!!!

      Cant be A as A shows the two arrowheads pointing to the black star while the expanded example has the arrowheads pointing to the black square.
      While C shows the arrowheads pointing correctly to the square, it has the circle "next to" the square when it can only be opposite the square.

    • @CareerVidz
      @CareerVidz  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, thanks for commenting... I sort of agree with you, but I can see why employers use this type of assessment during their selection process. For most, it will assess how well an applicant performs under pressure and also how competent their problem-solving skills are. I think the danger with this type of test is, some people are not good at them, yet they would make outstanding employees. As an employer myself, I would use this type of test as part of a wider selection criteria and not solely reply on the results. Cheers, Richard

    On the triangles I thought the answer would he C because the final outcome in the sequence would be 3 black diamonds : 1 grey diamond; 3 white arrows : 1 black arrow; 3 grey trapezium : 1 white trapezium… always a colour ratio of 3:1. With answer A, there are 2 blacks : 1 grey : 1 white; 2 white arrows: 1 black : 1 grey; trapezium 2 grey:1white:1black… therefore I discovered that there is also a pattern of 2:1:1 colour. Hence answer A is more logical, because it has the additional pattern mentioned in the video (bottom figure colour determines the colour of the first figure in the next progression. Hope this comment might help someone confused as I was.
