A Cliffhanger on Cringle Moor & Beef in Beer with Dumplings on the Trangia

- With a reasonable weather forecast of clear skies and sub zero temperatures, I decided to head out for a quick overnight wild camp on the North Yorkshire Moors.
I parked the car at Lord Stones Country Park, and then followed the Cleveland Way up to Cringle Moor. Once I'd found a flat spot precariously close to the cliff edge, I pitched my Mountain Laurel Designs SilPoly Trailstar. Even with a constant 25mph north westerly wind, the Trailstar showed its excellent wind shedding abilities and stood up to it with no issues.
Once the sun had set I used my Trangia 25 to cook the Delia Smith winter classic of Beef in Designer Beer with Suet Dumplings.
A fantastic overnighter in spectacular surroundings.
I hope you enjoy.
That meal looked delicious and you made it look so easy to cook - will maybe try it. Another non drinker here, we’re a rare breed 👍 Thanks for the video.
Hey, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Yeah, it’s very easy to cook and tastes amazing. Hope you enjoy. All the best 🙏
Love your cooking, getting a bit bored with everyone else taking a dehydrated meal for an overnighter. We made your Chinese pork the other night, spot on ❤
That’s fantastic. I’m so pleased you made it. You should try that beef in beer and dumplings. Perfect meal for winter. All the very best 🙏
Loved this one hats off to you on your cooking skills looked delicious Laughed when ya said do it at home if ya can’t be assed to go camping 😂😂
Hi Jona, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for leaving a comment. It’s much appreciated 🙏
Enjoyable camp apart from the wind and frozen finger ends , amazing looking scoff. Trailstar looked solid atb Dave
Hi Dave. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. It’s much
Appreciated mate. Yeah, my fingers always suffer on these winter camps. Normally it takes about a week for the dry skin and chilblains to recover. It’s due to having exceptionally refined and delicate soft hands, or as my Dad would say, cos I don’t know what proper graft is.
Yep, the Trailstar sheds wind so well. Much better than the Duomid, and the Duomid is no slouch.
All the best Dave 🙏
The sound of the wind was giving me shivers, great video.👍
Hi Carol. Yeah the wind chill was brutal
That night. But in the tent it was fine……. Sort of 🥶
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. 🙏
You may possibly be the first ever person to make dumplings in a trailstar. Outstanding video, keep up the great work. Atb Mark.
Thanks Mark, you may be right about the dumplings 🤣 thanks for watching, all the best
propa cooking none of that overpriced rehydrated muck, top class
Nice one Jim. Pleased you
Liked it. Proper stodgy winter fodder. All the best mate. 🙏
Making me hungry, Steve and I've just had my dinner.😋 Great looking spot, will have to venture into your neck of the woods at some pojnt. Thanks for uploading. ATB. 👍
Thanks Nick.
Must say that I really enjoyed that meal. Good old fashioned suet dumplings are the perfect cold weather meal.
The North Yorkshire Moors are a great option for a camp.
All the best 🙏
Howdy from across the pond! Enjoying your channel👍. Like a cross between UK "Paul Messner" and Left Coast "Chef Corso" of Outdoor Eats.❤
Hi Michael, that’s very kind. Really pleased you’re enjoying the videos. I’ll have to check out Outdoor Eats.
All the best 🙏

Nice one Steve, perhaps put the ingredients/method in the description on future camps? 👍🏻
Cheers Pete. That’s a good idea. 👍
Great video. Don't rip when going out for a pee!
🤣 I survived. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. It’s much appreciated 🙏
I have had windy times like that also. Excellent video, new friend here.
Hi David. That’s very kind. The weather adds to the experience doesn’t it. All the very best David. 🙏
Yes, the weather does add to the lively times@@belowaveragewildcamper
Loved this video. Your cooking is exceptional. I would guess NVQ level 1 minimum. Now to binge watch Vera. Cheers.
Can’t whack a bit of ‘Wor Veera’ on a Sunday night. Especially with a stomach full Of suet.
All The best Mat 🙏
Nice one Steve; a cracking meal but don’t roll over in your pit. Cracking effort with the dumplings, gourmet with a t.
Cheers Steve. I eat well 🤤
All the best mate 👍
Great stuff😊.
The wooly bobble hat gives your magnificent filam the credibility of a BBC documentary 😊. P.s. yer dads a better wildcamper than the lot of us😎. Great stuff 👍🏼👍🏼
He’s certainly an older wild camper than the rest of us 🤣
I’m hoping to get my own
Show on BBC2. Hopefully the bobble hat will help. All the best mate 🙏
Great entertainment as always.
Thanks Brian. I hope you’re well. 👍
The Georgie Ramsey cooking up corker of a dish 👏
Cheers Dan. That’s very kind mate. 👍
Like I’ve said before you and Senior are great today 👍🩵
Together
Loved this, could feel the history of it all. Great sunday venture. Lush!
Yeah, it’s a beautiful area. Thank you 🙏
Great stuff. Really enjoyed that video. The NY Moors are not somewhere I know that well so it’s great to get snippets of them and some ideas. I’ve got to ask…just how many bobble hats do you take? 😂With each scene I expected another one to appear with an even bigger bobble! Looked a cracking meal…I bet you smashed the ‘cooking up a storm IN a storm’ module on your NVQ! 😂😂 look forward to more videos. Hope you’ve found your motivation after the New Year one.
Hi Irene, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. So pleased you enjoyed it.
I only Own 2 bobble hats but for some reason I took them both. 🤔 the bobble on the white one was too big and I kept hitting it off the walls of the shelter so hard didn’t wear that one for long.
The North Yorkshire Moors are probably the closest location from
My house if I want to go wild camping. They’re very easily accessible and a beautiful location.
Definitely got my verve back thanks. Can’t wait to get back out for my next camp.
Thank you 🙏
Great camp Stephen. That meal looked delicious. Love the stone circle. Do you know, I love a good stone circle me. Have you perfected the levitation yet? 🤪👍
🤣 I’ve seen you at a few stone circles Wayne. The last one looked like a drunk levitation. All the best mate 👍
@@belowaveragewildcamper yes, don’t drink and levitate. The two definitely don’t mix well. 🙏🖖🍺
@@penninewayne1967 your drunken levitation did seem a bit wonky 🤣 you could have easily injured yourself or an unsuspecting passer-by. 🧐
Did you sneak out without your dad ?
Food looked good. Stay safe.
I invited him but he snubbed me.
Since he hit 300 subscribers the fame has gone to his head. He reckons he’s doing a collaboration camp with Paul Messner in a few weeks.
Oh, and my Mam wouldn’t let him out.
All the best mate. 🙏
Definitely a cliff hanger Steve, right on the edge there😮, great spot though, Trailstar doing its job well in them winds too👌, gonna have to get one of them ground sheets, is yours a dcf or sil? I’ve just been using an old helm footprint 🤣, bait looked lovely as usual, looked a frosty one..perfect mate, atb Mick 👍
Alright Mick? Aye, great camp that. I hate heights as well. 😵💫
Yeah, it’s the DCF version but I reckon the SilNylon version would be champion.
All the best mate 👍
Nice camp and the food looked amazing! I asked at the lordstones park if I could leave my car there overnight. But they weren’t very … erm … receptive to the idea so i had to park elsewhere. Fair play if that’s what you did. It’s getting to be a very popular spot now that though. What are your insulated trousers btw?
Hi Sean. To be honest I did a bit of research and knew the parking was free. I then checked for any no overnight parking signs and couldn’t find any so took a chance. They have glamping pods there and I think they use the same car park so thought a car left overnight wouldn’t look out of place.
The place I pitched did look well used but there was no litter.
The trouser are synthetic insulated trousers from Enlightened Equipment.
All the best mate 👍
thats what you call living life on the edge lol (fcuk that lol) nee the wonder ya fatha didn't join yi.deliah will be proud of you.
🤣 luckily I didn’t roll under the gap in the tent and off the cliff.
All the best mate 🙏
Great video! Whats that town in the back all lit up?
Hi, I think it’ll be Middlesbrough. 👍
Fantastic video. Who makes that groundsheet?
H Doug. It’s made by Mountain Laurel Designs. It’s made to specifically fit the Trailstar. 👍
Thank you.
