I always run the VIN number on the appropriate state’s DMV site and they’ll tell you if there’s an active lien. The banks are NOT very helpful overall with getting this settled.
What you just explained actually happened to me. Someone sold a car to me from Facebook, go to DMV to register and was told the title I had was the old title. There was a new title with a lien on it. Seller was gone. I didn't know how to reach the lien holder and car was recently towed from my apartment. What do I do?
This similar thing almost happened to a friend of mine. The kid he bought a truck from turned around and tried to get a duplicate title. I hope you got legal advice. You got scammed and sadly there is really nothing you can do but unfortunately take the L unless you can track down the pos you bought the car from. If you can't your SOL.. I don't really trust things being sold on facebook. Whether it's finding a room mate let alone a car! 😠
You will need to check with your state DMV - you can read a lot or just maybe go to a used car dealer or a tow truck company. Many companies that tow end up not getting paid unless they get the title put in their name and then sell the car. worked for my boss.
I bought a vehicle in PA last year from a company going out of business, they were bought out by another company . Long story short I got no title. Threw a 3rd party trying to obtain a title found there’s a lean on vehicle. I was considering trying Vermont to get a title . Would you recommend another way? I don’t know the lean holder or if it’s been paid off by now.
@@berniemac8413 nothing as of yet. In Pennsylvania from my research there is no bonded title. I’m not driving the vehicle currently ,I have another. I believe this spring I will try Vermont .
My husband had a bankruptcy 8 years ago. He called several times for the bank to repo the car, but they never did. He still has it. The title has a lien, but since the bank doesn't want the car, can he sell it after all these years ?
I think if he pays off the lien on it then he can. Or whoever buys the car from him pays off the lien aside from the car itself. It sounds like het in touch with the creditor who placed a lien on his car in the first place and see what he needs to do in order to get rid of the car.

@@msjudygoff I called the police non emergency number and a police officer called me and ran the VIN over the phone. Simple here in SC
