    This is the thing that will make my decision easier. We prefer homecanned meats, and I own 2 dehydrators. Eggs are the only thing that I buy freeze dried. I just assumed dehydrated eggs would be inferior to the freeze dried. That's what I get for assuming! 🤣 a freeze drier is no longer a lingering wish! Thanks Heidi! You are the bomb! 💗

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 года назад +24

      I had assumed the same thing. I was so unimpressed with those Honeyville eggs that I had assumed these would be the same. Nope, these are way better. Not sure if it is because they use additive in their eggs to prevent clumping, or what it is but the quality of my own was far superior. Now it is the test of time and really, if they only hold their quality for 3 months, that would still be sufficient.

      @@RainCountryHomestead I'm new to pressure canning, but my take on storing dry egg would be to pull a HARD vacuum on the container.
      When I was a kid (60+ years ago) we would toss a lighted match into an opened jar of salmon eggs (fish bait) before slamming the lid on. Supposedly, the burning match used up all the oxygen and kept the remaining eggs fresh.
      Hey, it absolutely works for that purpose. Do you think it would be the same for powdered egg?

He loved you so much that He gave His life for you by hanging in the cross and going to hell so that you wouldn’t have to! If you sincerely decide you want Him to be your Lord and Savior, simply tell Him you are sorry for your sins and that you want Him and if you are sincere, He will accept you and you will belong to the family of Jesus Christ! I have also been learning about dehydrating eggs. Initially I scrambled them without oils or butter then dehydrated them and was very disappointed that the taste was way off and grainy. Since then I am learning that raw eggs are the way to go but have also found out that you never should dehydrate them with a temp above 140 degrees. If you keep under that temp you are good to go so I am going to try 135. This is my project this week also.

      If you noticed in the text I added in the video (since I had forgotten to say it while shooting the video) I dehydrate them at 115°, I am sure it is safe to go higher but I am trying to keep them as raw as possible so they work better in baking

    I bet a good application where texture wouldn't matter or may even be advantageous is pouring them into muffin size molds and pan frying em with the molds that way you have perfect DIY Mcmuffins. Also, egg waffles, aka eggs in a waffle maker

    Another great video. I would like to make a light weight moisturizer for my face, do you have any suggestion? I have made your basic natural skin cream but have found that it is too heavy for my face, I live in a warmer climate also. I use it for the rest of my body and really like the way it works, just not for my face. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will also have to try dehydrating eggs, I think that would be great to have on hand for those times when you are making something and discover you don't have enough or any fresh to use.

    Thanks Heidi, I loved the video, I'm going to try to do the eggs tomorrow first thing. I'm hoping to get chickens in the next few weeks as we are coming into spring season. At the moment I'm buying local eggs but we always seem to run out. Powered eggs seem the answer and great for off season too. The best other tip was the fabric in with powder as I couldn't figure out what was going on with the food saver , it had been working so well. I've just invested in a finder to make powders and had that problem. Thank you for address it. You've saved me so much time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge I really appreciate it. ❤️

Has made no difference in my recipes and, who knows, maybe there are some good nutrients and fiber in those skins! Also, after 3rd try, I finally got some to sprout. Just like with any raw food that one fully dehydrates, they should be shelf stable meaning no refrigeration is necessary. So I am storing them in my cool pantry for the extended time and the second jar will stay handy for using in cooking and baking. I have already filled up a second jar and am thinking of starting a third

    Heidi this shared information is not going to be for everyone but I think it may help someone so here goes.........
    This is what I use as my "salt for everything but eating", (but if push comes to shove!😉) at tractor supply "Himalayan Nature" brand 100% H-pink salt chunks in a 8lb. bucket for animals at the cost of $11.20 before tax. (Labeled not for human consumption.) But for grass killing and scrubbing uses I love it just as great as any other but I can save money this way and hope someone else can to. Oh yeah! It's great for animals too! 😁😉😇👍

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 года назад

      If I remember correctly, the only differences between the "food grade" salt and that for animals is that it is grittier. Redmond real salt is gritty anyway. That grit would not hurt anyone, just not fun to chop on! haha

    • @suehinson1629
      @suehinson1629 3 года назад +1

      @@RainCountryHomestead Yep! You nailed it! And with the push and shove I referred to, I wouldn't give a 2nd thought! Lol. Wouldn't it be such an awesome world if all we had to "worry" about with our food supply was "Grit"?! I prefer my community of family and friends to have a good supply of "grit" in them! A great sign of "strength and endurance", an Lord knows, nowadays, we need all we can get! Especially, for taking a stand! Thank you for all you share Heidi! I appreciate everything you have taught me. Have a great week ahead and God bless.
      Sorry almost forgot, I bought 2 of the cheaper "cast iron" skillets. I think their ten inch. This is all I use them for: put a chunk of salt into the pan and put the other pan on top just like you were staking them to store. (Just make sure the handles are not over each other because you will be pinched and it's not fun. Ouch!) Then I just start rocking the top pan back and forth while I apply pressure, and according to how much speed and pressure I use, it works pretty quick and causes the least destruction to any other methods I've tried. Plus you don't loose any from "flying" away. Lol.
