So glad this is out there you tube can be a wonderful place to get away from the real world... This clip just bumped off my fav392 hemi powered duece rat rod run around the california block at sunset...
What a masterpiece of a racing car, for me, one of the most beautiful and iconic American racing car in the early´s 60 and ever! Great driver and great video! Thank you all and mainly thank you Mr.Carroll Shelby.
This is without doubt the most exiting piece of motor sport video I have ever seen. I am an avid F1 fan but this beats it hollow. The Cobra was always my favourite car, and now I know why.My respect to Mr Shepherd for his incredible driving ability and for allowing an old superb car to live again as designed. Superb.
Fantastic video. The car really wants to dart around under heavy braking. It gives you a small idea of the difficulty it was to drive these old school cars. It makes you show a lot of respect for all the drivers from that era.
A truly excellent driver in excellent cobra = great video! Have heard many 289s on road courses and this has to be right up there with the stoutest!! Many thanks.
Not that many people can drive a Cobra to its potential, this man can. Plus, that Cobra is a beast. He was eating the Competition alive, other Cobras, Jags, Tigers. Nice job.
Wow. Pure power. Boy if that isn't an old school race car then I don't know what is. Takes some pretty serious skill to control that car. Snap oversteer is very very common in a Cobra. Especially on a track. Nice Driving my friend. As Posted in the other comments. Carrol Shelby would be proud.
Awesome stuff... can't get enough of that beautiful sound, nothing like a Ford pushrod V8 small-block winding up through the rpm range! Terrific driving by-the-way! A little swatting flies going on in there! ;-)
My dream drive in my dream car on my dream track. If I could do this just once my life would be complete. Thanks for sharing this absolutely perfect video. Lucky bastard!
This is serious driving! Is this the original gearbox as those shift throws are really short. Almost as instantaneous as a current paddle shift car. Or Mr. Shepherd is just a really good driver. What a great sound!
I was just back from hitchhiking europe, pitting for Robert Bentley at Le Mans with his OSCA. Next was The Glen and witnessing the Cobra 289 just punishing everyone. I was standing at the back straight and a woman standing next to me was crying and screaming, "but, it's not a sportscar". I laughed like a maniac and knew that Ferrari was now in a world of beaucoup shit.
Took awhile to recognize where he's at. It's the Nurburgring GP track I'm sure. If you're a Gran Turismo player and sim race this track, look close and let us know if you agree.
the 289 was a beast !!! i know a fellow who knew Shelby ,he is in his 80"s he has an orginal 1965 GT350R (289) worth big $$$ he also has a Shelby GT500 both stick shift.wish i could show pictures and video of the 65 .
I'm back for my Cobra fix.... And don't forget guys, a big blow out at the Shelby museum in Boulder CO at the end of Aug 2019... it's a great get together for us that appreciate speed....
I have seen a formula GT race with Bill and the Cobra in it,nothing could touch it,just ran hard and strong leaving all comers in its wake, totally dominated .
This is Jim and Bill I love this Ford vid. Make sure you guys and gals get to the Shelby museum in Boulder CO. It is full of theses incredible machines..
Daymn that's awsum!! Is there a sweeter sounding V8 out there than a SB Ford?? I think NOT!! Thank you Bill Shepard (and RUclips) for sharing this cool video!!
If that is truly a 289 it gets much of its power from a generous static compression ratio. The two tight corners labored it to the point it almost needs another gear in the trans.
Great video, congrats on the skills. My next project will be Factory 5 Mk.4 - that car is simply timeless. Have read that 289s were very well balanced and I can see it , wonder if Bill has a video of 427 or 350 to compare.
Whew, that was some race! I need a shower, a Jack Daniels and then a nap. The closest I came was driving a 305 replica around a parking lot. Its a beast.
Yes! That's because the horsepower to weight ratio is so high and blended with the short turning radius, makes it a monster. You barely have to turn the steering wheel, and most drivers, even experts still find themselves doing it and sawing at the wheel. You have to keep the "pressure" up ALWAYS! Once you get into understeer, you're in big trouble.
Belo carro preparado por Selby cobra uma obra prima motor V8 500cvs conduzido pelo piloto Bill shepherd sem ajudas electrónicas piloto / máquina grande condução tirar o máximo deste expedito motor maravilhoso o som e contagiante
Gryzman the white bar on the bottom appears to be linked to engine vacuum. during deceleration (high Vacuum) the bar is to the left, during hard acceleration (low vacuum) the bar is to the right
Without having seen for my own eyes, i would have never believed that a 289 would have such incredible power
I'm in violent agreement. Simply fantastic footage... DAMN!!
Shelby once said that the 427's was more powerfull but the 289's was more easy to handling in high rpm.
Unless you were running the straight at Lemans over 205 MPH. You are proud of the added weight at those times. 289 never made a sound at Lemans.
Guys it has the 289 for a reason. The 427 wouldn't be able to handle nearly as well because of the weight.
No other V8 ever made can beat the sound of a well built and tuned 289 Ford. It was, is, and always will be my favorite engine.
As I was watching this I was thinking the exact same thing, of course, I'm a bit biased being a Ford fan to start with.
That 289 is a wonderful engine, isn't it? Powerful, compact, and sounds like a million bucks!
As many race teams f.a.f.o. " proven"

One of the most enjoyable videos I've seen on here. A rare time when the car was
driven by someone worthy of the job. Thanks for posting.

That is one very ANGRY car. Thank you!
Nah, that's a happy car! Being driven the way it wants to be driven!
Fantastic video. The car really wants to dart around under heavy braking. It gives you a small idea of the difficulty it was to drive these old school cars. It makes you show a lot of respect for all the drivers from that era.
I've noticed that Porche 917Ks dart a bit in heavy braking also. Ref Lemans.
Simply Awesome!!! Nothing like the sound of a high winding small block Ford! :-)
Love this vid Bill . This is what Ford power, Shelby and Ken Miles were all about ...Winning !!
The best Cobra upload on youtube...end of story
Best AC Cobra sound track ever, and a real treat to see the driving skills too.
WOW...im a chevy man...but he put this 289 to its limits. Something to be PROUD of . He RULED the day !!! What a race !!!
If they don't have these in heaven...I don't want to go.
Don't worry, I hear there are dinosaurs, giraffes, raccoons, MGA's, only the best beer and single malts, all kinds of cool stuff.
jajajajaja. thats true.................
A truly excellent driver in excellent cobra = great video! Have heard many 289s on road courses and this has to be right up there with the stoutest!! Many thanks.
Great sound, thanks for not having any back ground music.
was going to say the same thing... the v8 note is music in itself...reminds me of racing cars in my youth...
Not that many people can drive a Cobra to its potential, this man can. Plus, that Cobra is a beast. He was eating the Competition alive, other Cobras, Jags, Tigers. Nice job.

I’m surprised the other cars didn’t just jump out of the way when they heard that growling at them! ….. what an awesome sound 😃
This never gets old. I love how cars just disappear in his rear view mirror
Or how He gains up on them
Just epic!!! No other words.
I was always a chevy fan,but after watching this about 4 times all I can say is 'WOW'.I hope I didn't damage my hearing.
Outstanding skills from 8:20-9:00 minute, just before the finish line. A magnificent display of torque! Russ
2 ways to steer this car and this guy was getting it done, love the wheel/throttle work.
What a glorious sounding beast! Awesome vid - one of the best I’ve seen.
worked his way throught the field VERY quickly! Impressive sir!
My dream drive in my dream car on my dream track.
If I could do this just once my life would be complete.
Thanks for sharing this absolutely perfect video.
Lucky bastard!
One of the better videos here on RUclips, thanks.
Damn!!! Good job Bill! Thank you. God bless. Playing that 289 like a fiddle.
I needed this. Thanks for the rush. And that’s only a 289. I can’t imagine the 427 power. The only cars he had trouble passing were the other Cobras.
I am impressed! one hell of a piece of driving, thanks.
I think he is the only one who is there to race, the others are there to say they were there. A real man in a real race car!!
Brilliant fantastic Cobra and driving, excellent.
Bill Shepherd i love this car !!! you are a great driver for it .thats for sure .
Now that's how a Cobra should be driven!
Glorious sound. Absolutely glorious.
Outstanding sound of my favorite Car !!!Ever !!
That is one HEALTHY sounding rocket ! Damn
I agree he is gettin after it.. Killer car killer driver
OMG, what a beast. Those 4 and 6 cylinder cars don't stand a chance, he's even passing other cobras. Great driver.
I could watch this forever!!!!
Awesome sound of the 289! I could only imagine how difficult it would be to wrestle a 427 around this, or any other track.
This is serious driving! Is this the original gearbox as those shift throws are really short. Almost as instantaneous as a current paddle shift car. Or Mr. Shepherd is just a really good driver. What a great sound!
marvellous sound!!! and great drive!
Yee-Haw!!!!! Listen to that V8, ol' Carroll is smiling from his grave.
He sure is he sure knew what he was doing that's for sure
the sound of a tuned V8 is hypnotic!
most amazing of the most amazing american V8 i've EVER HEARDDDDDDDDDD!!!
I was just back from hitchhiking europe, pitting for Robert Bentley at Le Mans with his OSCA. Next was The Glen and witnessing the Cobra 289 just punishing everyone. I laughed like a maniac and knew that Ferrari was now in a world of beaucoup shit.
...and that's the gentle pedal-car cobra - imagine a 427...
Great driving in a great car. American Muscle at its best. And it does sound awesome.
One hell of a race. You were out for blood. Great driving.
Thank You Mr. Shelby
Took awhile to recognize where he's at. It's the Nurburgring GP track I'm sure. If you're a Gran Turismo player and sim race this track, look close and let us know if you agree.
Sounds absolutely wonderful!.
Every tap on the gas is a life affirming moment!! Love it.
The best video of a Incar Cobra... and a bloody awesome sound !!! XD TY !!!
If that's how much of a handful a 289 is,imagine what a 427 must be like.Unreal
the 289 was a beast !!! i know a fellow who knew Shelby ,he is in his 80"s he has an orginal 1965 GT350R (289) worth big $$$ he also has a Shelby GT500 both stick shift.wish i could show pictures and video of the 65 .

Just dominating in the straights. What a monster.

Have read that 289s were very well balanced and I can see it , wonder if Bill has a video of 427 or 350 to compare.
A properly tuned 289 is a beast, even in a non-racing Mustang.
Whew, that was some race! I need a shower, a Jack Daniels and then a nap. The closest I came was driving a 305 replica around a parking lot. Its a beast.
Awesome video and amazing sound! Thanks
My friends.. That's the way you do that! Love this video..
nice video, great sound.good driving.could watch all day long.
These gearshifts are insane 👌

"Spring little Cobra get ready to strike...................Spring little Cobra with all your might!"..................
+Machi74005 Hey, Little Cobra
Can't you imagine driving this torque monster in the rain! It sure is a handful, even with the 289!
Thank you...One bad ass small block !!!
Damn that's a nasty 289!!! Love Cobras!!
It's incredible how well automotive technology ages.

I miss my little 65 fastback , screaming lil 289!
That was so cool = watchin' a Cobra tearing up the track! I could almost smell the oil, fuel & rubber .
Good Luck & keep’em coming!
Pheeewwwwww.... Made my day. This car is 2 yaers younger than me.
I'm convinced. The most beautiful small Block I've ever heard. Beats the 302/375 TA engine
Nicely done! And thanks for leaving out the music.
