That's my silhouette in the opening credits. I was 9 years old. The studio hired extras as "stunt runners" so the lead actors wouldn't hurt themselves during the running. I stood in for Ike Eisenman, who played Tony, but they couldn't find a girl who had hair that bounced like Kim Richards' did, so she had to do it. It was a dream come true for 9-year-old me to spend a day running with Kim Richards.

I remember trying to sing it to myself after I'd seen it, while I was reading the novel. I only saw it in first run, so the novel was the next best thing to seeing it again.

I agree, these are perhaps the scariest opening credits ever put on film. I don't know which is scarier, the silhouetted kids or the ghostly dogs chasing them.
I believe the sequel RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN had a similar opening.
Instead of a blue and black silhouetted Tony and Tia, we instead see a zooming UFO in the same manner in both ghostly blue and deep black, leaving the credits in it's wake Am I right?

I'm older than you by 20 years and it still gives ME chills! The opening is WAY to frightening to kids under 10 years old.

I was about 8 when I first saw Escape To Witch Mountain and that was about 29 years ago. It gave me the chills then and gives me goosebumps still to this day! Not once did it scare me, yet it enthralled me to watch every telekinetic movie ever made! Sweet!

The opening credits are darkest part of the movie. The rest is lighthearted fluff IMO and the last 20 minutes are slapstick comedy with the inverted 'copter and how the two men flying it just walk away after it crahes.

Aristotle Bolt "They're not the one's flying upside down.WE ARE"
Spins all the way back down to Earth.
Aristotle Bolt "I'm all right, where are the Children".
Cue one of the greatest scenes of all time.
As a child this scene was quite empowering. It's a shame that the movie industry don't make great films like this nowadays.

I remember when I first saw this movie. It was our movie day in daycare, and I had to leave early because my parents finished work sooner than the rest. I had to see how it ended, so I begged my mom for it. When I got it, I watched it so many times I wore out the tape!

I agree. When I was little, I rented the 2009 DVD from the library and after I watched the previews on Disney’s fast play (I was 4 and I couldn’t control anything because I was chill all of the time 😂😂😂)
And right when the movie started with Dwayne Johnson talking in the car I immediately ejected the disc. Idk why 😂😂😂😂 4 year old me was smart and confusing at the same time 😂😂😂😂
I didn’t watch this version until 2nd grade but let me tell you, this brought more magic to me than the remake 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

If this doesn't scare a small child , NOTHING will! The movie itself isn't scary. It's a cross between action adventure and slapstick comedy. The inverted(upside Down) helicopter near the end of the film is hysterical

It kinda makes me misty eyed seeing this because it reminds me of my childhood watching these Disney movies in the theater. My mom would drop me off in the afternoon and I would watch these movies over and over again. Another good one was "Island at the top of the world" which had the famous asian actor Mako in it. They were so magical, I always wished I could have been Tony. But that is a kid talking. And yes, I remember 1975 like it was yesterday. Ahh memories!

I'm really quite stunned that this, as far as I know, is not available for sale as a soundtrack. Actually I probably rate this music above John Williams' E.T. - which is saying something since I think of that man as a symphonic God. Disney get your act together and release the full soundtrack for sale, I'd buy it and I know a lot of people who would.

If you are talking about the 1975' movie with Kurt Russel, I believe that Robert F. Brunner composed the score. And you're right, the music deserves a cd album.

Some of the best opening credits ever! It gives off a ton of Something Wicked This Way Comes vibes. This in my opinion is the only actually creepy scene in the movie. The rest of it is just weird and hilariously corny (and Return from Witch Mountain is even worse).
