My mom and dad always reminisce about that I honestly am quite jealous because their childhoods sound so fun. The prospect of waiting the whole year for that one moment when the TV plays the seasonal cartoons is something that would make the movie even more enjoyable, because it's special you can't just get it when you want, you have to wait.
@@hollyhock9638 It really was something special. I'm 51 years old but grew up during that time. You can actually relive this yourself....these same TV specials still only air once a year on TV. Just avoid watching it the easy way and wait until it airs on TV!! :)
As a small kid in the early 70's I could not wait for this to come on Ch.5 in L.A. (or ch.9 as well)....this was surely something I looked forward to like once a year I think they played it.
Funny thing is that my 10 year old looks at this and says "dad...you liked this?"...and I reply..."no son...dad LOVED this and couldn't wait for it to come on once a year." I was mesmerized every time I watched it. Glad to hear somebody else shares the same feelings towards it. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Same here! I was 7 back in the early 80s and would get so excited when this would show on KTLA 5 or KCOP 13 Southern California. I remember jumping out of my skin when I would see the listing in the TV guide. It always seem to come on around 1 pm on a sunday. Good times. I'm glad I raised my daughter on this movie.
Same here - born in '68, raised in southern California, and watched Mad Monster Party on KTLA Ch. 5 when they showed it once a year. Used to use my old Panasonic cassette recorder (pre-video tape machines) to tape the dialogue and songs. LOVE this, and still watch it every year (even at the ripe old age of 48). Cheers! :)
One of my FAVORITE childhood pictures. I have it on vhs, always watch around Halloween. Growing up in they played this often, sadly with all the games and reality shows, good fun movies like these are played from the archives. Many people I asked know nothing about this movie. Sad... Happy Halloween!
Lyrics The full moon brings out the monster in you A strange tune seems to be playing for you Could you be someone's invention, So unreal as you feel tonight? Did you sell your soul to the Devil At the monster party last night? Mad, Mad Mad Monster Party. Did you sell your soul to Mephistopheles? Tell me, baby, tell me, tell me please If you made a date with the Devil, not me If you know my fate, Honey, level... with me. The cold night brings out the creature in you A strange light seems to be falling on you I know it's not your intention to frighten me so tonight Won't you tell me, baby, what happened At the monster party last night? Mad, Mad, Mad Monster Party last night
What a great puppet trick film, i watched it when i was a Teenie in german language, then the austrian TV never showed it again, its a pity. I have the english original DVD, but its the wrong Zone here in Austria, i have an old DVD Player, its not possible to watch this movie on this, i must get an New DVD Player who accept every DVD of every country zones. The Song mad Monster Party is very nice, at First i thought its Shirley Bessey, but its Ethel.... I forget her Name. Her nice voice is near to Shirley Bessey. One of the Best Monster comedy Trick Film, i think it is the Best of All. Thanks alot for uploading. Best regards from Austria 🇦🇹
Finally! This has been bugging me for years. I wasn't sure if it was a memory or I had imagined it from seeing it in early 80's. Dude I'll sleep well tonight lol
Man I remember this every once in a while like a weird fever dream. Despite being born in the 2000's I watched this as a kid, we had it on DVD. Jekyll and hyde scared me the most
One day Dr. Frankenstein brings life to a monster, then the next day he creates nuclear potions! HE MUST BE STOPPED!!!!!! Oh wait, he stopped himself in the ending...
Ok, but why is Quasimodo counted as a monster in this and Hotel Transylvania? Was there some bad Notre Dame adaption where he was portrayed as a monster?
Back in the day, any movie role that required a "grotesque" make-up job was counted as a "monster". Gwynplaine from The Man Who Laughs is sometimes counted among the monsters too despite being a noble figure throughout that movie.
The monsters in this movie are classic universal monsters. Universal was the first to have a shared universe with the monsters in this movie. They started it all with the hunchback of notre dame and phantom of the opera.
My cast of mad monster party characters Dracula and other vampires Frankenstein The Werewolf The mummy The invisible man Quasimodo aka the hunchback of Norte dame Phantom of the Opera Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Headless horseman Witches Gargoyles Zombies Skeletons Corpses Gremlins Ghosts Goblins Bigfoot Abominable snowman Witch doctor Blobby And more!
Back in the day you had to wait a whole year to watch it again!! Just like all the other holiday specials (Charlie Brown, Rankin/Bass, etc.)

I know that this is a Rankin/Bass movie, but I have not seen this one before.
Who sung the opening song? I feel like she did an opening for a James Bond film.
It says at 2:33
Micheal Polant Oh right...
+HonorAmongScars I agree. It sounds like a Bond film track. That's what I thought too.
You're right. Like it's a James Bond Halloween special!
