Devastated. As a young child who, like Charlie, growing up in a family struggling to make ends meet, this film and Willy Wonka made me believe better days lay ahead. Gene didn't just portray Willy Wonka; he embodied Willy Wonka. It isn't an understatement when I say I got through some tough times with help from Gene Wilder. For that, I say thank you. Sleep well, Mr. Wilder.
That was really beautiful. When I was 12 years old in 2001 around the time of the 30th anniversary, I fell in love with this movie. Every day after school I would go home and pop in my DVD and watch it, and forget about all the trials and tribulations of Junior high. I even dressed up as Wonka for Halloween that year. lol. Even now, this song always makes me happy, no matter what mood I'm in. Gene will ALWAYS be Willy Wonka to me. And I agree, this song always give me hope that things will get better.
Very poignant...reminds me of what Russell Crowe said when he won the Academy Award for Gladiator......"If you grow up ... in the suburbs of anywhere, a dream like this seems kind of vaguely ludicrous and completely unattainable, this moment is directly connected to those childhood imaginings. And for anybody who's on the downside of advantage, and relying purely on courage, it's possible." -Russell Crowe

I think I read somewhere that the girl who played Veruca snuck onto the set before everyone else, lol. She might have mentioned this in the DVD commentary.
Another fun fact: Veruca's knee is bloody because the rocks were real and super sharp but they decided to continue filming anyway. She still has a scar on her knee to his day.

There once was a girl who fell in love with Gene Wilder and Willy Wonka at age 4, who inspired her in all his music, movies, books and later would find him to be the most beautiful man in the world. She even dated a dude in high school who looked a lot like him, even the other kids told him he did...and that girl grew to study acting/directing and classic cinema, and tried her luck at acting and writing...that girl had a boyfriend who was the first man to truly truly love her, and they went out for 4 years...and he loved Willy Wonka and knew I thought he had a sense of humor like Gene Wilders as he was a fan too...and he resembled him. In June of this summer, that girl's boyfriend died...her best friend...her soul mate...he was only 33...and she was 29. Their last date was at a carnival on a perfect June night, where she thought of ferris wheels, crazy rides, and which reminded her of pure imagination, color, excitement, and joy.......she wrote Gene Wilder a final fan letter that said another tremendous thank you after saying her boyfriend had passed, but watching his films were helping her smile through this tough time. She watched The Little Prince before her boyfriends funeral, she watched three Gene Wilder films after that...then she found out that Gene Wilder...the only actor who truly ever gripped so hard on her heartstrings and gave me the gift of valuing "There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination..." which was my moto...had passed away. She wasn't a star struck kind of girl, she wasn't someone who would be a fantatic....but she loved Gene Wilder because to her she was magical. RIP, over 40 years since the film was released and still holds to be one of my favorite films of all time. Hearing this brings a tear to my eye. Thanks for the happiness, hope you are swimming in a chocolate river up in heaven
And so we have lost another truly talented person. Gene Wilder, thank you so much for making us laugh in your Mel Brooks movies and taking us to a world of pure imagination in this timeless classic that really meant a lot to me as a child. To me, nobody played Mr. Wonka as well as Gene did. Johnny Depp did a great job at portraying Willy in the 2005 version, but Gene just had that extra spark. RIP Gene Wilder (1933-2016) :-(
I am sitting her in my bed room bawling because one of my childhood hero's has passed. Rest In Peace Gene Wilder you have given us the gift of joy, laughter, and pure imagination. I will always remember you and the impact you have made on this world. RIP
***** Jacquelyn Fontaine I know it's movie, I'm just saying the movie is the most effective candy commercial ever made Infact this movie was funded by a candy company and they originally made this movie to launch Willy Wonka themed candy from the popular children's book and seen here in the movie. For some reason it didn't work out and Wonka themed candy didn't come out until decades later (it's been awhile since I saw the making of documentary, so I can't recall specifics, its on Wikipedia) So technically this actually is a candy commercial
Love you Gene, you eccentric, crazy loveable man. You're the reason I started watching films, and for that you made a huge part of my life. Rest easy, pal.
Fun fact: That buttercup that Willy Wonka ate was actually wax also, they had to tell the children specifically what they could eat and what they couldn’t eat
"It's always been in my heart from the moment the notes hit my ears as a child. "That child still lives in me and through me." Isn't life wonderful. Full of riches that's priceless. ♡
1:18 what he didn't explain to the tour guests is that the reason he kept hopping one step back up was because he was bypassing an extremely elaborate pressure sensitive security system. He kept clacking his cane in front of Violet and keeping her from rushing forward because he was saving her life!
Suddenly this song is everywhere I look. That's ok....because I love it. If you want to view paradise Simply look around and view it Anything you want to, do it Want to change the world, there's nothing to it

Considering I have thought of magic of being alive nothing moves me more than this wonderful song....where do people obtain this wonderful talent .truly wonderful song and lyrics for any age , god bless you and give you as much peace as the song give's me thank you Utube...
"The Chocolate Room." It has that same grand introduction as opening the door to Munchkinland in "The Wizard of Oz," but Gene Wilder's performance of this song makes the film entirely his own. I always remembered it on network television, the commercial would begin around 1:51, when Wilder bows to the ticket winners and lets everyone in; a voice-over saying, "The magical Gene Wilder stars in the family classic..." So happy this is in his legacy. Pure imagination indeed. RIP.

When you go and I'm alone you live in my imagination

the summertime and butterflies all belong to your creation
This video upload date is older than Phineas and Ferb, that movie and this show changed my life. I thank you Mr Wilder and Dan Povenmire
You did good, Gene. Thanks for all your stellar work. Rest in peace.
I love this such a beautiful song so timeless its amazing
David Bowie, Alan rickman, Prince, Ronnie Corbett, Kenny Baker and now Gene. 2016 is depressing
Don't forget Anton Yelchin :(
Muhammad Ali.
and Doris Roberts who had one role as the mother in Everybody Loves Raymond.
Harambe
Bruce Wayne and to end it all Carrie Fisher and her mother, just ONE DAY after her daughter's passing!!! 😭
Gene's Willy Wonka will never be matched, the man was born for that role.
Oh man, the ending of this song has so much more meaning now.
R.I.P Gene Wilder.
RIP, over 40 years since the film was released and still holds to be one of my favorite films of all time. Hearing this brings a tear to my eye. Thanks for the happiness, hope you are swimming in a chocolate river up in heaven
RIP Gene Wilder♥ Here's to an eternity of pure imagination.
R.I.P. Gene Wilder. Pure genius! Thank you for the smiles and laughs!
Rest in peace with your beautiful wife, Gene Wilder. And, THANK YOU for a childhood filled with Pure Imagination.
Love this song,no one sang it better than Willy Wonka himself Gene Wilder,Hold Your Breath,Make A Wish, Count To Three!
This movie will always bring me back to my childhood memories always 🥲
And so we have lost another truly talented person. Gene Wilder, thank you so much for making us laugh in your Mel Brooks movies and taking us to a world of pure imagination in this timeless classic that really meant a lot to me as a child. To me, nobody played Mr. Wonka as well as Gene did. Johnny Depp did a great job at portraying Willy in the 2005 version, but Gene just had that extra spark.
RIP Gene Wilder (1933-2016)
:-(
That forest must get so many ants.
If he won't let humans in the river, you really think he'll let ants through the tiny door?
GoldenrodNews Well he lets little orange men inside!
They're special guests foreigners! Why do you think there're no veracious Knids?
Or Snozzwangers?
Skylord Elberich Or those Wicked Wangdoodles?
Wilder and Dahl always brought us PURE IMAGINATION !!!!
I'd love for this beautiful song to be played at my wedding or funeral
Goodbye, Gene..... Thanks for the childhood you helped give us. May you find a world of paradise.

I am sitting her in my bed room bawling because one of my childhood hero's has passed. Rest In Peace Gene Wilder you have given us the gift of joy, laughter, and pure imagination. I will always remember you and the impact you have made on this world. RIP
I'm crying man. We miss you Gene.
Watching this without candy is torture. Best candy commercial EVER.
it's the original Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory movie :)
+Jaden Salazar She knows.
+Jacquelyn Fontaine She knows.
***** Jacquelyn Fontaine
I know it's movie, I'm just saying the movie is the most effective candy commercial ever made
Infact this movie was funded by a candy company and they originally made this movie to launch Willy Wonka themed candy from the popular children's book and seen here in the movie. For some reason it didn't work out and Wonka themed candy didn't come out until decades later (it's been awhile since I saw the making of documentary, so I can't recall specifics, its on Wikipedia)
So technically this actually is a candy commercial
The original Wonka bars melted too easily
Better 100,000,000% better than the remake :)
Love you Gene, you eccentric, crazy loveable man. You're the reason I started watching films, and for that you made a huge part of my life. Rest easy, pal.
So nostalgic.
RIP Gene you were and always will be a legend
Fun fact: That buttercup that Willy Wonka ate was actually wax also, they had to tell the children specifically what they could eat and what they couldn’t eat
This is beautiful...IMAGINATION IS MAGIC..just like how FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC.
This movie is a classic. Gene Wilder was one of those rare human beings that makes you happy you're alive.
"It's always been in my heart from the moment the notes hit my ears as a child. "That child still lives in me and through me." Isn't life wonderful. Full of riches that's priceless. ♡
Come with me and you'll be, in a world of debt free education.
omg best comment ever

TRUMP 2020!!!
Funny. My army recruiter sang me the same tune
I absolutely love the line
“Want to change the world? There’s nothing to it”
1:18 what he didn't explain to the tour guests is that the reason he kept hopping one step back up was because he was bypassing an extremely elaborate pressure sensitive security system. He kept clacking his cane in front of Violet and keeping her from rushing forward because he was saving her life!
RIP gene wilder this will forever be one of my favorite songs
Suddenly this song is everywhere I look. That's ok....because I love it.
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world, there's nothing to it
I like it too... but where exactly are you looking that you see it everywhere these days...?? (Now I feel like watching the movie!)
My youngest was just in a willy wonka musical, it was just on the daily show, etc.
This is a somewhat interesting read:

Apparently, the actors had not seen the set until they actually started filming.
I absolutely adore this film and this song.
Gene Wilder truly made something special. I hope he realized before the end the impact he made on my and many other’s Pure Imagination.
Rest in peace, Gene. You shall be missed.
He’s making Wonka chocolate bars up in the heavenly sky now
This my favorite song in the world!
RIP Wilder, I grew up when I was three and first heard this song, amazing singer

Rest In Peace Gene Wilder I Hope You Reinact This Beutiful Move In Heaven.
Beautiful*
Ok i was born in 2017 why he died 😢 I’m 7 now btw
"The Chocolate Room."
It has that same grand introduction as opening the door to Munchkinland in "The Wizard of Oz," but Gene Wilder's performance of this song makes the film entirely his own. I always remembered it on network television, the commercial would begin around 1:51, when Wilder bows to the ticket winners and lets everyone in; a voice-over saying, "The magical Gene Wilder stars in the family classic..." So happy this is in his legacy. Pure imagination indeed. RIP.
RIP Gene Wilder, may there be paradise filled with your imagination everywhere
Vegas has it on its machines. Pure imagination realized as you play and win. Bravo, Riveria Hotel. You are offering your guests a great experience and your renovations and the new "look" will pay off on that famous strip! Thank you for making life a great experience.
