- Today we are doing an in depth review of the Topdon Topscan lite. This product was sent to us by the folks at Topdon and asked if we would do a review of it. We walk you through the app features and test many of its claimed functions on several different vehicles including: steering angle reset, battery registration, parking brake reset, active tests, live data, graphing, abs bleeding, and much more. We also compare several data points to what is given on a much more expensive scan tool. We give you the pros and cons of the tool as well as our overall thoughts of the product and the company.

If you have a Duramax, get one, you won't regret it. It runs both static and driving regen's plus it does DEF quality test and many others.
Excellent review. I just purchased this yesterday from Amazon and was looking for videos about it's functionality. Yours is the best I have watched.
Thank you!
The best review of the topdon scanner tool that I could find. 👍
Thank you!
15 is power with key on, 30 battery power, 31 is ground
Great Review!
This looks much more useful than OBDlink MX+ and BlueDriver so far.
Looking to replace my OBDlink MX+ with this actually. The bidirectional capabilities on it's own have me sold.
@@CREESE99 I was thinking the same until I found out it has a time limit / subscription. Would be helpful to know this up font.
Great video, guys! Any thoughts on the Topdon Topscan Pro?
Haven’t had any personal experience with it, but I know it will do some keys and has a few different service functions such as tpms programming. I’d say it’s probably worth the $40 price difference.
@@automotiveinsight Yes, thanks again.
What happened to yall ase practice test videos? I loved those they helped me pass a few
Thank you and congratulations! They were all flagged for copyright infringement so we had to remove them. We do have a backup plan we are working on now.
Does the tablet allow more pids to be shown on display?
Would love to see a comparison between this and the xtool anyscan A30m . The topscan is cheaper upfront, but the A30m is supposed to be the same with free lifetime updates.
If they send us one, we’ll definitely make a video. As for now, we have like 10 scan tools between us and really can’t justify buying another one.
Do you guys have any experience with the Pro version of this tool? Does the pro offer $40 more in value? Thank you!
We haven’t had a chance to use one yet. Before i bought my lite, I remember thinking that it seemed like the main difference was immobilizer capabilities. What I would do is pull up their coverage charts in 2 separate windows and pick the same car, different tool, and compare them to each other to see if you think it’s worth it. That being said, I feel like if you program 1 key with it, that alone probably covers the additional $40.
low volume can not hear what was said
Is the software useable after one year? Is it just one year of updates?
We talk about it in the faq section at 23:11. You basically have global obd2 functions only.
Yes I did get that info later in the video.
It would be nice to have all the basic info up front so your audience has a good idea of what you are reviewing instead of after. Costs and limitations are very important to know about.
@@marstedtit’s labeled in chapters so you can skip to whatever you want to see.
@@automotiveinsight it would be helpful to know about these limitations / subscription up front.
@@marstedtwatch the friggin video marstedt… or there this no info system out there called GOOGLE! For Christs Sake!!!
I have a 2004-2008 ford f150 5.4L with a p1000 code will it fix it
P1000 just means that the monitors haven’t run. You need to drive it until all the monitors have completed then the code will go away.
I haven’t seen anyone try the key immobilizer feature. Does it work?
The one we were testing was the lite and it doesn’t have immobilizer functions. My understanding is that the pro version does, but I haven’t been able to personally confirm it.
@@automotiveinsight the lite does have the immobilizer feature I just don’t know if it works. I don’t have a vehicle I can test it on. I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500. I do see the feature I just don’t know if it actually works
Which is better Topscan or Thinkdiag?
I don’t have any experience with Thinkdiag, but looking at it, it seems like the Topscan Pro. Topdon, Launch, and Thinkcar all share software so it’s probably the same.
@@automotiveinsight
Okay thanks, I think the software 1 year from thinkdiag is really expensive, it costs 80 Euro, I think I'm going to buy Topscan
$60 ? Mine was $99 back in May.
The lite is $60. The pro is $100. The one we tested was the lite.
@@automotiveinsight My bad! Thank you for pointing that out.
@@francantanimorno problem.
DO NOT RECOMMEND. Only one free year of app use. Then a yearly charge afterward, in order to use the device app! Device has no display or keyboard built-in for use without a subscription.
Are you serious, Dude?? It’s friggin’ fifty dollars. Did you complain after you bought you IPhone and find out it had an $1800/yr subscription? That Autel tool they have in this vid is $800/yr. Professional scanners can be over $1000 a month. This is a $50 scanner with a $50 annual subscription (=$4.10 month). Ten years ago you’d pay $20,000 for a scanner with this functionality.
Yes sir, good things are not free
That’s how it is this does a lot of things that a regular scanner wouldn’t
@@shortsv8537 Then I would like a comparison between Topdon Lite without license versus BlueDriver which requires no license, which would be better then?
