- I honestly have no idea why this man would do this. I am beyond grateful it was not another guest as I would hate to see people turned off the sport due to his actions. It is clear to see he just does not like snowboarders citing times in the past . The fact his class was no where around and that he did not hit the other riders going by , I can not help but think this was a fast thought with rage and not the first time. It does scare me to think people like this are teaching children and I do hope this is the last time this ever happens to anyone on the hill again. Especially from an employee. I do not think the resort is at fault as I know this type of behavior is not accepted . I do however think this man needs to be held to a higher standard. I truly always try to inspire and bring good vibes on the hill. Unfortunately we all run into a few "Deans" in our time. I hope we can grow from this, learn , and treat each other with a bit more love and respect.

That instructor deserves a write up. He waited until the last second to pull his pole up and he brought it up to neck/face level.

I know this sounds like a lie but I have shared this video with a supervisor at northstar which I know however it seems like he can’t do much about it.

You failed to avoid the skier ahead of you which is a clear violation of the skiers code.... not to mention you were in the wrong for buzzing the kids in class at speed. Then you went full Karen over something that was a non-incident until you made it into one. The instructor was clearly NOT trying to hit you... and you asking "where are you kids" when you knew damn well where they were just makes you look even more disingenuous.
You need to grow up and man up.

That was what I initially thought. If I was OP I would have been understanding and let it go if he would have just apologized, but the way he acted would have made me want to report him.
One small issue with that....he raised the pole to neck/head level whe nthe snowboarded was right fucking there. No fucking way he didn't see the boarder.
WOW!!!! I cannot believe he did that. As a Mother who has been flying out to Colorado to ski with my son since he was 4, I would LOVE to know where this is! I actually only go to Arapahoe Basin but if for some reason I couldn't ski there, I would never allow my son to take ski lessons from a school that hires men like this. You ABSOLUTELY handled the situation better than I would! Respect!!

Feature should have been aborted when num nuts was spotted stopped on the landing, if you didn't have time you were riding too close. Num nuts had no right, you dropped in and his students didn't. Num nuts should loose his pass because that's OB behavior.

I teach alot of park lessons and I NEVER close a feature for my class. A big part of park is park safety and teaching them to lookout for skiers and riders bombing the hill and cutting you off, it's a very important skill. Also, if I'm next to a feature to be able to close it quickly if one of them falls I'm clicked out of my skis or snowboard and I'm on foot, it's the fastest way to block the feature and hold up the X. There's instructors like this at every resort, grumpy old people who are super nice and friendly until you get on the hill where they turn it into something it should never be. It takes alot to get me mad, especially on the hill in uniform, and I wouldn't have even given this boarder a second thought.
Perfect response, Gawd the comments here are a flood of ignorance by people who've probably never even gone in the park, but theyve read that "uphill traffic rule" a billion times and think that makes them a master-ski-lawyer.
If you are in the park, you dont ever do what this instructor did. Its very dangerous, and very arrogant.
Ive never seen an instructor ever pull shit like this in a park for a class, and hopefully i never will.

That’s it my guy. You see me coming down the trail, never interacting with the guy then this happen. I could tell he was irate and speaking about kids no where near the area so I left. No point in sticking around some crazy guy. The video shows who’s in the right. Either way, resorts are too short staffed to do anything about this stuff so you can still cop a lesson from this gent

as a ski instructor, he should also know he is not suppose to use his poles to point. this video shows exactly why.... his pole comes up before his head is fully turned in the direction of his pole....had one of his "kids" been right there, he could have seriously injured one of his "kids" or another patron. 🤦♂️
If you hit a stationary skiers pole at speed you are violating the skiers code that states it is your responsibility to avoid the skiers/riders ahead of you. @halfcabking failed to avoid the skier ahead of him. He is at fault here.
@@craptify That is under normal circumstances, this "ski instructor" malciously extended his pole into the path of @halfcabking, the "ski instructors" actions were unreasoanble.
The snowboarder didnt violate any code. The park demands safety from downhill skiiers. The skiiers code reinforces by stating that a skier should only stop in a safe visable spot. The top of a jump is a terrible spot to stop unless there is an injured person on the landing. Beyond code, Hitting someone with a pole is called assault. Its a crime no matter what the code is.

I have been teaching skiing for 28 years and have been a mountain sports supervisor as well and would have fired this guy immediately. He has no business being in a terrain park with wedge turners in the first place.
First time checking out your YT channel. Love your mobile content, your attitude is everything I love about snowboarding. This instructor is an idiot that ignores every rule of park courtesy and safety, stopping on a jump like that. He should be confined to the bunny slope where he obviously belongs.

Looks like Northstar ski resort in Tahoe, not surprised by the behavior of the instructor. I grew up snowboarding in Tahoe and the tourists and staff at most resorts there are a holes. I've had many bad experiences with them targeting me, friends or other snowboarders. Just because we're snowboarders, it got so old. Bay area tourists are the worst, then add the instructors and ski patrol that just want to pick a fight with you. I now live in CO and the attitude is better, at least they aren't trying to fight you at every corner.

By far more dangerous than what the instructor did. Can you imagine what it would do if an old man held a ski pole out across my body as I rode by, it would feel like i was hit by a small tree branch across my body. That might make a loud sound, maybe leave a red mark for a while, a small tear in my clothing.

@@davidsmith9 The instructor was CLEARLY not trying to hit the snowboarder. Suggesting he was is just trying to create drama where none needs to exist. The instructor was focused uphill on his class... he didn't even notice the snowboarder until the snowboarder decided to throw a childish tantrum. The snowboarder was responsible for avoiding the skier/rider ahead of him and he failed to do that.

This happened to me also, this is a long story but I'll make it short, there was a guy that got injured and had to be rushed to the hospital on a helicopter, so the rest of the day the ski patrol and instructors we making everyone go slow and I was coming down the mountain and going to the lift at a normal speed and this instructor hits me with his pole in the face and leg and scratched up my goggles and started yelling at me for no reason

I showed more. My intention with a full video is to show the lead up to it to prove there was never anything else happening nor was I near his class. Just as I showed. It’s only 7 seconds longer but it is the full clip. I apologize if you thought you would get anything more then that

There was no class to ski through. And it's "poor form," but not against any rule or illegal if youre following the skier code and happen upon a class.

Generally when an instructor or ski patroller or other employee is standing on a jump it means don't come flying through. If you had opened your eyes and looked downhill you should have seen to avoid traffic standing on the jump.

I've been told he's been telling other instructors that Vail is gonna "go after me" and I guess his boss told other instructors to stay away from me because I'm "provoking instructors for videos".
