I am using my Quest as a movie theater, FTP server, python script processor, FFmpeg media encoder, and I also have own VPN with ZeroTier installed to connect to my pc "virtually locally" from anywhere. Oh and also I am using new Bing AI assistant (GPT-4) that I ask questions by voice from time to time. I think that is the most of non-vr things I am using on my quest :D
I use quest watch movies but quality of content seems to small. The most content creat for small screen and if i try to set up smaller screen it's looks pixelated
Hey Mysticle! I was wondering have you ever played EmuVR? You mentioned in the video the old retro TVs so I highly recommend you give it a try and have some nostalgia hit you
I don’t have a FP drone/plane, but if this could be done, I would certainly be looking for one. Would love to have a first person RC P-51 Mustang, or an RC jet.
Quest don't have video in (hdmi or analog) so you need a some sort of capture device connected to PC and VD to stream to Quest. You won't have head tracking or 3D view. And FPV video feed is usually not great (except for DJI but they don't allow hdmi output so you can't capture it). And boy I guarantee you it would be nightmare to use even if you manage to set it up as Q2 is really big and heavy for fpv. I've had box FPV goggles slightly bigger than quest and oh boy it was so much better when I bought smaller better FPV goggles. Also, it is possible to have 3d stereo in some goggles like SkyZones, and use headtracker to look around but really noone is doing that and there are really good reasons for that. But FPV sims are as fun and you can run them via steamlink or vd or airlink
I mainly use my Quest with either Meta Horizons Workrooms or Immersed (changes with my mood tbh). Bought a Logitech MX Keys and MX Master mouse specifically so i can Bluetooth to the quest and it's pretty good, the one downside of the Quest 2 is the poor grayscale pass-through. I'm hoping the Quest 3 comes at a reasonable price and has decent enough pass-through, it'd be on all week if it does, additionally it would need to be less chonky as trying to drink a coffee before it's cold with the Quest 2 is... entertaining. For fun though, sideloading Edge and playing Xbox Cloud Games is a blast, being able to lie flat in bed to play some Xbox is a lot easier on the neck/back.
Well, i'm not really using my Quest 2 for the Quest 2 System. I only use my Quest 2 with a Link Cable connected to my Gaming PC for SteamVR. And i actually don't have any battery life issues, because i'm using the Kuject Link Cable. The Kuject Link Cable connects your Quest 2 with your PC and your Charging Cable, which increases your Battery life immensely. I can play VRChat (PCVR) with my Quest 2 from 10pm through the entire night until 7am and still have more than enough battery for playing even longer.
I've switched from using the oculus launcher with airbridge to using virtual desktop instead with steam VR (using the airbridge with internet passthrough) and it's sooo much better, i cant seem to get the visuals quite as sharp as before but the ease of use & the cozy desktop enviroments not using PC resourses makes up for it easy. Ive even began using it for some 2d gaming and watching TV
Wow, this video was so awesome that I wish it could have lasted forever! VR gaming is such a fascinating topic that captivates the hearts of many viewers, and it's no surprise that it's the main focus of every RUclips VR channel out there. But let's not forget that VR has so much more to offer than just gaming, and that's why videos like this are so valuable and highly appreciated. I have no doubt that this kind of content will not only keep your current subscribers engaged but will also attract many new ones!
Without having to sideload, I use Virtual Desktop and play my steam games in a theater with xbox controller or bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected to my Quest. I do this from downstairs as well as my couch in my game room. I don't use my monitor anymore for gaming and play all games in my quest.
@@JonT-vn3vz Well, Virtual Desktop defaults resolution to 1080p. You can turn that off in the settings and use the resolution of your monitor. However, you need a powerful graphics card and a strong connection to stream 2k or 4k to your headset.
@@JonT-vn3vz Interesting. I have played Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, the new Harry potter game and many more and the graphics are the same as my 4k monitor. Now, there is another setting and is the quality of the feed from your machine. Maybe its that. I tried Bigscreen streming and the quality was really bad. VR desktop is almost a 1-1, for me. Well, maybe I am lucky, then.
Thanks for testing so we don't have to ;-) I am now backing up my Quest 2 (side link) have 280apps installed (most are side loaded) ... Got to the point where something running in background is causing issues.. Factory resetting..
there is no such thing.. its basically any PC you can get, and it all depends on what headset you want to run at what resolution and at what settings etc
If your somewhat needing a laptop for school I would highly recommend a good gaming laptop….we are talking like $1000+ lol but my laptop gives me zero problems with any vr game and I use my computer for collage which helps me feel a little better about the money😅
@Derek would not recommend a Steam Deck, I own one and it really doesn't have the thermal space for it - but its definitely possible and I'm sure I could get it to run well.
I bought my Best friend's PC for $350. Its a I7-6th gen, GTX1070TI, 16GB Ram. I then Bought a $40 5ghz Wifi Modem for airlink. It runs any modern VR games. Im so happy i can finally go PCVR on Vrchat.
Air travel. I'm not much for gaming, but I like to watch a lot of movies and TV in my quest 2. I've been travelling a fair amount in the past few months, so I've sideloaded a Netflix client which allows me to download content. In advance of my trips, I download a whole slew of stuff I might want to watch. For the air travel, I book a seat with extra legroom (bulkhead or exit row typically) so that there won't be an issue with the person in front of me tilting their seat back into my head space, and I choose a window seat if possible so that I won't be disturbed if a row-mate needs to go and return for restlessness or bathroom reasons. Once seated for my flight, before I must turn off my phone for take-off, I turn on my phone hotspot, power-up my quest and start the Netflix client (to ensure that proper authentication to the Netflix service has occurred). Then I suspend the Quest and set it aside, put the phone on airplane mode, and stow the gear for take-off as may be required. Once in the air, I'm all ready to go. I use the BoboVR strap and have 4 batteries on hand so power's not an issue. I have learned the hard way LOL, to turn off headset-tracking because if you don't, the inertial sensors get very confused with the aircraft movements and the result is very weird and unpleasant. I also use Bose Quiet Comfort ANC headphones (in wired mode) which protects my row-mates from having to hear my audio and the ANC is awesome for the otherwise high ambient noise levels of air travel. One final hint is that when you order your glass of wine, ask for it to just be the little bottle (if such is offered) rather than a glass, so that you can sip it without having to push your headset out of the way as would be necessary to sip from a glass. All in all, it is for me a great way of travel as time just speeds by.
You can also play steam games on virtual desktop with a bluetooth controller connected to your pc. You are confined to virtaul desktop environments tho.
Everything you said in this video I use on my Quest 2, and I was trying an external USB C with SD Card on it to see it I can use it for more memory but I did not get it to work, maybe your team can find a way to get it to work.
Hey Mysticle: That UNIFI wireless access point you've got over your shelf; do you use that for PCVR or just general wifi coverage? I've got one laying around and was curious to see how it would work for virtual desktop and whatnot.
I got Sen 3d VR running on quest, it was cool to be able to play super mario bros 3. The quest controllers were a challenge to use. I wasn't able to get a controller to work with it though.
I have been using steam link on quest 2 with steam deck and it's pretty cool. It a lower resolution because it's showing the resolution of the 800 due to the steam deck screen. It's fine if you want to play older retro games where you don't notice the resolution.
I don’t understand why use steam link and not virtual desktop? Another question: does steam vr have an option to play 2d games in a big virtual screen ?
@@brdido I like steam link because I like to have passthrough mode on which isn't available on vr desktop. Steam link is also very simple to connect to on steam deck as long as they are connected to the same network. I usually have 2 windows open, one is the steam link app and the other is the oculus web browser so I can watch RUclips while I game. Another plus is that steam link is free.

is there a way to connect my quest 2 to my ps4 to use it like a psvr? my psvr broke and i have games on my ps4 i dont feel like buying on my Oculus to play them again.
I had an Oculus Go, Rift S, I have a Quest 2 & a PSVR 2 (which I love), I'm also a former Network Engineer with 20+ years IT experience. With all that said, I honestly think until VR gets to the point where the headsets are roughly 50% the size & weight of the Quest Pro & 50% faster, incorporates full color VR/AR untethered with full body tracking it's not going to get where it needs to be. The good news is, we're getting there rapidly! As we've seen the headsets are getting smaller, lighter, faster & dramatically improved displays. The new sensors from HTC are a huge step in the full body tracking area. I think late 2024 to mid 2025 is going to be the time we finally get the Goldilocks VR/AR headset...
One of the things I have enjoyed is installing the Xbox app on my quest then using remote play so it looks like it is on a much larger screen than the one I actually own. The graphics aren't the absolute best and the latency makes multiplayer difficult, but it's still quite enjoyable

I was able to get Call of Duty Mobile in Apex running. But I could not get Fortnite to run. It keeps telling me to disable Developers mode. But if I Disabled developers mode. Would that cause the other sideloaded Apps not to work correctly?
i just have one question, can you use steam link for vr games such as gorilla tag or boneworks? i was just wondering because it would be so cool to play boneworks from my pc without having any cables.
If your WiFI connection is good enough and PC is wired to your router, you 'should' be able to do that via the Oculus AirLink built into the Quest 2, or for a payed 3rd party solution, Virtual Desktop.

Get one used. I got mines off. Mecari for $219. 128gb. It was practically new.
Steam link Support 2k 120 Fps?
My only issue is the video quality is not as good as my tv. Sure large screen is nice, but grainy isn't.
Yo mysticle about the steam link is there also a PlayStation link?
There actually is an app that I remember worked on Android with playstation. I'm sure it would work here!
@@TheMysticle thank you so much
There's Chiaki, which runs on a whole bunch of platforms, Android being one of them. That might work, I've not tried it myself but now I want to.
Here is a homework/assignment: How to play .mvc movie files in Quest. Convertion to .mp4 kills quality. Please help. You got connections, maybe they know, and you can make a video about it.
How did you have only the screen in AR on your room in color? I have only Quest 1 but last time I tried the passthrough was B/W...
He's using a quest pro
Bro the second I saw this I teleported into my bedroom
I think of my quest as the thing that can survive *anything*
Hey, anybody knows how to connect Insta360 X3 directly to Quest 2? Why? To watch recorded VR videos directly from insta360 via wifi or USB direct connection.
Is there a way to Sideload roblox on quest 2
Has anyone tested dolphin emulator? I’m curious about how well Wii games run.
idk
@@Shadow-tm9wr I haven't used Dolphin but I don't expect it to work well as it barely handles N64 or DS in Retroarch.
@@theob1712 Ok thanks!
Immersed.
I download some apks and I got fortnite running on my quest 2 it was really easy
I was able to get Call of Duty Mobile in Apex running. But I could not get Fortnite to run. It keeps telling me to disable Developers mode. But if I Disabled developers mode. Would that cause the other sideloaded Apps not to work correctly?
The song at the end made me want to spend billions of coins on a minecraft server
Would playing via the Steam link apk instead of Virtual Desktop improve the quality they run?
idk lol
Get yourself a steam deck and a pair of nreal airs . .
Game on😉
i just have one question, can you use steam link for vr games such as gorilla tag or boneworks? i was just wondering because it would be so cool to play boneworks from my pc without having any cables.
what do you mean ? you can already play steamvr games without cables with airlink ...
If your WiFI connection is good enough and PC is wired to your router, you 'should' be able to do that via the Oculus AirLink built into the Quest 2, or for a payed 3rd party solution, Virtual Desktop.
@@F33N1X89 im new to vr (just got a quest 2 last month) and im trying to learn new things about it. ty for telling me about airlink and i will try and use it.
@@LunarVerse1199 Tried airlink before, Virtual desktop is better and less buggy. Cost like 20$ though.
i like to use link cabel to my pc to use my pc in vr
wow
Oh I think we all know what people do, with their quest 2, when not playing VR. here's a hint. It involves a little cardio. ;]
Any new news for Roblox vr?
Have you try PPSSPP VR?
i am a genius i knew most of this lol
hello im back.. soooooo how do I do this 01:06
only one problem... how is it that my quest can do so much more if i dont even have one?
I once used my VR headset for something I'm not proud to say 💀
We probably almost all did.
This is for anyone who sees this, what is a good recommendation for a quest 2 head strap?
I have used the default strap for like a year and a half, I can still use it just fine but I feel like I need to change it after hearing everyone saying how shit the default strap is.
So can you guys help a brother out?
I use the BoboVR M2 Pro, it takes the pressure off your face and gives you additional battery power at the same time.
@@F33N1X89 Thanks for the feedback!😄
Hello there :D
Try PPSSPP VR and be prepared to be blown away. 😉
NIce
