As much as I love first couple albums, I actually think Propagandhi and John were better off with out each other. I think they got much, much better after he left, and w/out him leaving......no Weakerthans!
I always loved listening to the audio when he gives Ernesto the chance to come do a solo, and his victorious yell of "Ernesto!" at 50:46, but this is my first time watching the video, and seeing him watching and smiling from the crowd at ~50:00 is really something else. John K Samson is a really special human being.
One time I saw John live and these kids were skating. He mentioned it on the mic and they stopped. Then he said, " No, keep going. I could listen to that sound all day"
I remember very specifically me being 18 in 2000. this band playing at Chain Reaction in Anaheim Ca. Dancing with my friends to every song the weakerthans played. Love that memory.
I've listened to this album so many times, and I am constantly blown away, A) by Ernesto's raw talent in the face of overwhelming odds, and B) the band's extraordinary ability to blend with his more amateur skill level and make the entire arrangement sound so beautiful as a whole.
i love the weakerthans. left and leaving is my favorite. i'm nearly moved to tears every time i hear it. it's such a beautiful song. this is a great show. i hope i can see them in person some day. :) thank you very much for posting.
I am really surprised just how great and cohesive the weakerthans are live. This is probably the best concert video i've ever seen. It's a shame they don't play live more often.
Virtue The Cat Explaings Her Departure always brings years to my eyes. It reminds me of multiple cats I have had over the years. I had a cat who lost the tips of her ears due to a terrible winter storm. I had a cat who had a special sound that I "found for her" that would always bring her running. I miss them all. I found this song shortly after the cat that had the "special sound" was killed by a car and it's torn me up ever since.
John K. Sampson is fantastical, and a stuff of Canadian Legend. Talked about by those bedazzled and awed from coast to coast. Stephen Carroll, Jason Tait... fantastic musicians.
Crossark1 If you haven't already, check out John K. Samson's solo records "Provincial" and "Winter Wheat". Less of a punk influence but both absolutely incredible albums, at the very least as good as his work with the Weakerthans.

Hey fellows, after reading all the comments today (i'm not a "real youtuber" or sth.) i decided to reupload and encode the show from scratch. Since i realized the aspect ratio was fairly off and upscaling is a thing today, you may want to see the "new" one here: ruclips.net/video/4UM3N0d4foA/видео.html. Have fun and happy easter.
To the person, Nathan Christensen, who couldn't find the CD/DVD (maybe you have by now) you can get it here, kingsroadmerch.com/the-weakerthans/view/?id=1257&cid=85
This dive is the St. Charles Hotel in downtown Winnipeg, the site of the former Wellington's (immortalized in Wellington's Wednesdays) and a short walk to Canada's most famous intersection of Portage & Main. i have no idea how he sings his way through virtute the cat explains her departure without breaking into tears.
Ernesto guy playing the guitar was so amazing.
Fckin amazing. So modest, underated. The great canadian poet.
I'm watching a concert I went to when I was 10 years old, in glorious 360p. What a time to be alive.
As much as I love first couple albums, I actually think Propagandhi and John were better off with out each other. I think they got much, much better after he left, and w/out him leaving......no Weakerthans!

Ernesto's solo is one of my favorite things ever in the history of everything

@@generaldisarayhkjust made me more of a fan
Miss the Weakerthans and this concert seems to help. Come back to it from time to time.
I remember very specifically me being 18 in 2000. this band playing at Chain Reaction in Anaheim Ca. Dancing with my friends to every song the weakerthans played. Love that memory.
I guess we all have to grow up sometimes..great band..been listening to them since they came out
Love going back to watch this!
I remember being at this concert, how great things felt then. How awful they feel now.
Back row, whiskey sour, try to appreciated the youthful enthusiasm. This band literally wrote a song about this
I've listened to this album so many times, and I am constantly blown away, A) by Ernesto's raw talent in the face of overwhelming odds, and B) the band's extraordinary ability to blend with his more amateur skill level and make the entire arrangement sound so beautiful as a whole.
i cant listen to the two Cat songs without tearing up
so unfairly sad and upsetting...
does anyone else have goosebumps for the entire concert?
I sure did, both now and back then when I was in the audience.
Wellington's Wednesdays is my favorite Weakerthans track, and boy is this performance good. Go Ernesto!!
i love the weakerthans. left and leaving is my favorite. i'm nearly moved to tears every time i hear it. it's such a beautiful song. this is a great show. i hope i can see them in person some day. :)
thank you very much for posting.
This is the reason i listen to music
Everytime John K. Samson speaks, the heavens open up to shed light on him. Everytime he sings, the world stands still.
Wow, I need that right now in 2020, it is healing my heart in a beautiful way. Past and present tense are merging in tears of nostalogia.
Here we are, all leaning on the same broken fence.

sun in an open room is soo amazingly brilliant.
what makes this so rad...is that I can still sense the "Propagandhi" in John's heart and soul.
I miss these guys so much.
Man I saw them like 14 times back in the day…miss them.
there's some genuinely fucking exceptional drumming on some of these songs
I miss The Weakerthans
Just boought this CD yesterday. I was at this concert and it was absolutely amazing.
Thank you for this excellent concert and let's hear it for Ernesto from Mexico!
The fact that he recognizes pamphleteer as the greatest song ever, tears me to pieces
Huge fan of the guys. Great set they played. Thanks for sharing.
John K. Sampson is fantastical, and a stuff of Canadian Legend. Talked about by those bedazzled and awed from coast to coast. Stephen Carroll, Jason Tait... fantastic musicians.
god i hope they play one more show, this concert was so special to me but i was sick during it and couldnt enjoy it as much as i wanted to
I really hope so too. I have never seen them live ever! I think i listened to them every night in Afghanistan while i was trying to sleep.
My favourite band on earth 🌎❤️
Epic concert.... eternally sad that I missed this one.
God these guys are amazing
This is a great band. It's a shame they haven't put out anything new, but they're still amazing. Wish I could have been there.
Crossark1 If you haven't already, check out John K. Samson's solo records "Provincial" and "Winter Wheat". Less of a punk influence but both absolutely incredible albums, at the very least as good as his work with the Weakerthans.
Patrick Brownson I know of Provincial, but didn't know he had another solo album until now. I'll check out the other one pronto.
Ernesto! Yeah. Coolest thing ever.
